I've watched several of these roasts, and this is about the funniest one I have seen! Kirk Douglas -- what an iconic actor! They aren't made like him any more, and the celebrities doing the roasting are hysterical! I had no idea Ted Knight was that funny! And Rich Little and the rest -- so much great comic talent in one half hour!

Gone but not forgotten and I certainly don't think he should be forgotten and ever on I was in love with him as a girl I have named pets and plants after Aldi to keep his name alive in my life I at this time have a huge beautiful cactus that started out as one scrawny little branch if you get the comparison which is now a beautiful beautiful plant and its named Audie Murphy. I think Texas was a little bit late on that update their for Audi at least they finally did it but they should have done it years before. And I certainly hope no one takes offense plants, pets, and owning and playing his movies those are the ways that I am able to honor him and keep him alive so I hope everyone is agreeable with that thank you for letting me voice my opinion

There is a persistent rumor in Hollywood that something happened many years ago between Natalie Wood and this man. She was only 16 and was traumatized by what happened. It has been a rumor for sixty plus years and will not go away. So maybe we shouldn't glorify this man too much.

What ever happened to Terry Murphy? After Audie's death in 1971 it's like his two sons just vanished into the lost colony of Roanoke where Audie's plane went down. You can't even find anything about them with a google search. He'd be 66 now, a year older than me, and his brother Skipper would be 64. I know their mother Pamela passed away a few years ago after working for decades at a VA hospital in Texas and Audie's only surviving sister was given an award for Audie from the Texas Legislature in 2013 but there's just no mention of either of them anywhere.

I have loved and honoured Audie Leon Murphy since I was six years old.... My Daddy and Grandpa told me all about him and his heroic deeds during WWll.... Audie the most highly decorated soldier in history.... Audie was only a lad of sixteen when he went into the Army, he was a hero and was awarded the highest honour as an eighteen year old young man, for his heroic deeds whilst under fire from the enemy.... The Germans got extremely close to Audie who was standing in full view on the burning tank loaded with fuel and ammunition, though being wounded Audie did not leave his post till he pushed back the Germans and he ran out of ammunition, he was honourably discharged around his nineteenth birthday..... What Audie witnessed and had to do during the war remained with him to cause him nightmares for the rest of his life, he always slept with a loaded gun under his pillow for the rest of his life and had to keep a light on as he could not sleep in the dark.... Audie turned the garage into his bedroom as not to disturb the rest of his family at night.... One extremely heroic man who was a crack shot killing around 240 men or so... Whilst we continue to remember this great man, Audie Leon Murphy he continues to live on, never forget him..... REST IN ETERNAL PEACE AUDIE LEON MURPHY YOU ARE MISSED, LOVED, HONOURED AND REMEMBERED STILL.

    EDITH SYMMANS 2 years ago

Total surprise they sure got here with Terry Murphy in his performance in "A Time For Dying".... Sadly this was to be Audie Murphy's last movie for he was killed on top a mountain on May 28th, 1971.... Those eyes of Terry's are so much as serious and cheeky as his Dad's if you look closely at them... Terry did make both his parents so proud of him, and just a few years later Terry stood by his Mom's side at his Dad's funeral that was the hardest day of their lives with media taking photo's of their pain... Terry as a small child played his Dad's little brother in Audie's own life story in 1955 in "To Hell And Back"which was about his early life, then joining the Army, going to fight the enemy and through to the end of Audie's service in WWll and his medal presentation and march past.... Terry was a great little actor and here he stars in another one of his Dad's movies playing a great character with conviction and total integrity, that really did define Terry here in this scene in the movie.... GREAT WORK TERRY MURPHY, JUST LOVE IT.

    EDITH SYMMANS 2 years ago

Audie Murphy's last movie and he played his part here with all the charisma he possessed so well and that gorgeous smile.... Even here you see the humble man once again on film that shows what Audie was like in his personal life, a humble man.... Audie was such a brilliant talent and that made for his loss being all the most heart breaking to his fans across the globe... My heart and prayers still go out to his family today, especially his two sons, Terry and James Murphy... Sadly his wife Pamela passed a few years ago, she was a very devoted lady in helping out the soldiers where she worked in the Veteran Hospital for some thirty odd years, they were her boys and she never failed to comfort them and they adored her.... REST IN ETERNAL PEACE AUDIE LEON MURPHY YOU ALWAYS PLAYED YOUR PART IN YOUR LIFE SO WELL, A TRUE REAL LIFE HERO AND TRUE PATRIOT TO HIS COUNTRY..... MISSED, LOVED AND ALWAYS REMEMBERED WITH GREAT LOVE AND SO MANY PRECIOUS MEMORIES.. REST IN ETERNAL PEACE PAMELA MURPHY YOU ARE SADLY MISSED AND LOVED.

Audie M. was obviously a Paper Hero...created by some studio because of some connection with someone with some kind of wealth, power or some other influence completely unrelated to and unconcerned with talent, charisma, presence or any other quality that one would exhort to see in the typical leading roles that he was so often cast. I mean come on....Clint E, John W, Charles B....Audie Murphy and Captain Kangaroo! But more power to him for his success...ever how and ever who got paid off.

The director just put Terry out to fend for himself without any preparation whatsoever for surprise is what they're looking for; as a result, he gave a splendid performance. I fell in love with Terry; he's a high-quality -- serious, earnest, with integrity, reliable... for Mom to lean on after Dad's passing (loved the photo of Pam, tall Terry by her side). I DO see a lot of Pamela Murphy in him; his blue eyes are like Dad's (not sure about Pam's). Terry's done his Parents PROUD!

  • Audie Murphy American Legend

Audie was never a drinker or smoker. He had a "nervous stomach" and could not tolerate alcohol. He was known to occasionally have a glass of wine with an Italian meal or vermouth, which helps to calm the stomach. As to cigarettes he never smoked. Here is a quote of Audie's from 1968 about endorsing cigarettes and booze. "I keep turning down liquor and cigarette commercials. I don't believe they are good for kids." This says a lot for Audie especially by this time he was almost broke.
