For me the best interface are those which have good drivers ... my HD500X & the UR22 (that i gave to my nephew) are great ... no problem at all ! But, i just buy the Focusrite Solo 3RD Gen (because of their great publicities) ... & i've only got problems with it ... bluescreen appears each time i change the buffer size & a lot of pop & crackle ... This is what i wrote to the focusrite support after their suggestion to be a guinea pig for their beta driver : **I will give a try to your beta driver ... but for now i have made so many change on my PC (bios & windows 10) even install a generic driver for my graphic card, that i feel that my PC is not the same ... after all of these ridicule manipulation, i've made an other analyse with Latecymon & it seems that the solo run better...until today morning: i changed the buffer size : BLUESCREEN AGAIN ! But Ed, now i can compare the solo 3RD Gen with the UR22 & the HD500X & the feeling that i have is that the Solo 3RD Gen is not a good product ! ... Good quality voice Indeed, but with the impression that my PC will turn in blue again. (i confirm) No need a hi-tech level of technology to have an audio interface work proberly ! These few grams of a basic technology isn't HI-TECH ... so why ? ... it should be well tamed since a long time … it’s a shame ! No more Focusrite for me because i have a work to do ! Thanks

Thanks for your efforts / trying to wade through the offerings available to the music lover. I have some experience with Yamaha "receivers" CR 620 - 640 in the early 80's, NS-500 Beryllium Tweeter - Rock Monitor and NS-640 - Three way sealed acoustic suspension speaker systems, utilizing the NS 1000 woofer with 5-6 lb Magnet structure. I wish I had kept those beauties. Back to the Yamaha Integrated Stereo Amp. The variable Loudness Control, is not new. It was included in the CR receivers in the late 70's....

Integrated amplifiers are by far the most economical way to get involved in home theater and contrary to what some supposed audiophiles might say, equipment that is good enough to compare to "high end audio" separates for music listening. I did some research earlier this year and found that Denon, Marantz, Onkyo, and Pioneer are now all owned by one company, Sound United. Although mergers and acquisitions like this can sometimes lead to even better products by taking the best of what each company does and spreading it to the others, often it leads to worse products by spreading the cheapest parts among the others. Yamaha, on the other hand, has by far the best reliability ratings and all Yamaha products are still made by Yamaha only. So I bought a Yamaha RX-A1080 (2 year old model) for $840. It has more than enough power to drive all but the most demanding speakers and has an incredible number of features. Because I have Magnepan 20.1s for my front speakers and the Yamaha was getting warm when I turned up the volume, I did end up buying a two channel Emotiva amp to drive the 4 ohm Maggies only. Can you spend a whole lot more on separates and get a little bit better sound and fewer features? Sure, but I like to brag about how much I got for how little I spent, not just how much I spent.

    • david wilson
      david wilson 13 hours ago

@Dr. TJ Your Yamaha is overheating because the unit is cheaply made. Wattage is like the rated top speed of a car. Take, for example, a car that has a rated top speed of 120 miles an hour with a 120 hp motor. Compare that 120 hp rated car to another car with 200 hundred hp that also has a top speed of 120 MPH. Drive that 120 HP car up a steep hill and see how it compares to the 200 HP motor. Horsepower is similar in concept to headroom. If a manufacturer doesn't list the rated "headroom"...don't buy the amp. Lack of headroom causes overheating and poor musicality caused by internal phase errors and phase lag, creating false harmonics and all kinds of bad sound quality accompanied w/overheating issues. Overheating IC chips and modular op amps...causes short life spans. Lack of headroom is caused by using cheap components. Consumers think wattage is horsepower. It's not!

@david wilson ...I'm sure that the Really Good ones could come somewhat Close to Stand Alone components .But the Usual rule ,is that Separately Housed Amps and Pre Amps would be the preferred way to go .But I'm sure that $ 20,000 Macintosh is Great ! And you could pay $20,000 for just 1 Mono Block ! You could buy a $ 3,000 Parasound that would sound just about as good .There are Good Deals Out there .You just have to Review a lot of Literature to find them .It All comes down to what You can Afford ! And what Your Priorities in life are . Its Now possible to spend 3 Million dollars on a Sound System.... Very Easy ! So the Smartest Guy is the one who can be the Happiest with spending ..The Least ! That Guys ,Got it Made !

The Yamaha overheats because it is a cheap consumer product. A Marantz amp made in 1976 for $599 would cost in today's market $3,500. A 1700 hundred dollar all in one amp today is a pile of crap...equal to a basic 150 dollar receiver from the 70's...in headroom. On the other hand, Yamaha is the most reliable gear on the market. I repair a Yamaha once every 2 or 3 years. But, they use op amps and IC chips exclusively, which are prone to overheating with high load speakers. The other issue with Yamaha is that they do not sound very good in stereo mode due to the type of tone control preamp circuits that they use. If you want to hear the difference between a Yamaha all in one unit in stereo/music mode compared to a good sounding amp...compare it to a 70's 45 watt receiver made by Marantz, Pioneer, Sansui or Radio Shack. The sound quality WILL DESTROY A $1700 ALL IN ONE UNIT. And they will not overheat on Maneplaners. Why, because of construction. SOUND QUALITY PEAKED IN THE 70'S AND EVERY YEAR PAST THE EARLY 80's THE SOUND QUALITY HAS DIMINISHED...BECAUSE OF CHEAP MODULAR CONSTRUCTION USING IC CHIP AMPS RUNNING 9 CHANNELS ON ONE LITTLE TINY POWER TRANSFORMER. NO HEADROOM. No headroom means horrible musicality. It's not about the rated wattage!

I’ve never heard someone use the phrase “hi now,” and it’s completely broken my brain. I’ve rewatched the first 3 seconds of this video at least 20 times to make sure I’m not having a stroke. Anyway great video! Very helpful

I think you guys must be comparing the top 6 budget acoustic guitars. No comparison to a Taylor, Martin, Collings or a Bourgeois guitar. Thanks for the video.

Nothing more than an advert for Yamaha guitars. Ridiculous to compare them to a Martin D28. Do you think your audience are ignorant fools? At least the Seagull ad was mercifully short.

I purchased a HS928 fifteen years ago today. If I have any advice for someone considering a Honda snowblower here is what I can tell you. I researched several brands before I chose the Honda. Other than the Yamaha, none of the others matched the Honda for build quality and features. ie: track drive and adjustable bucket height on the fly. I just had a hard time getting past the high price of the Honda. It was around $3200.00 Canadian dollars back in 2004. After 15 years, I have had zero problems or regrets getting the Honda. (Knock on wood). I know the high cost is hard to get past, but if you have the dough, go for it
