CORRECTION: It turns out that the ASUS Fusion 700 uses virtual surround based on Bongiovi Acoustics' Digital Power Station technology, not ASUS' proprietary solution. Sorry for the confusion!

@blamoV4 Btw. I have Nahimic 2 MSI notebook and Virtual Surround and Equalizer not working propertly = In firefox on YT Virtual Surround not working or when working and I disable and on Virtual Surround then Virtual Surround from Equalizer not working and when I run game then work only for game not for YT music + when I run music in VLC Media Player then equalizer work there too and Nahimic 2 not work with music from YT so Nahimic suck :/ @BlamoV4 BTW. Linus probably tested with game software 3D sound processing enabled and not disabled this because game normaly have this option enabled and for testing 7.1 sound settings via headphone software this need be disabled so tests is not good.

@Miller Yep. Most cheap gaming headsets are okay for the price when it comes to surround sound, and hearing footsteps. But I would not put more than $60 into anything but HyperX headsets,

I am probably getting one because they are so damn comfy to wear and I game for pretty long sessions at times.

From my experience, gaming surround sound is terrible, also makes music mix terribly.
I just dislike gaming headsets in general, they are so heavy for no reason.
They could get the weight down by removing the useless lights on them, but nah, gamer marketing is dumb.

Did you remember to enable and disable atmos with the analog mix, as well as correctly set the analog to 7.1 config in windows, etc? If you're just transmitting on two channels and/or the headset is not configured then of course it's not going to be the best test, and although Overwatch is better for virtual surround sound I feel like when compared to a game like the Battlefield titles it's like night and day.

I very promptly returned my Tiamat 5.1 headset back to the retailer. The drivers were not timber matched and the drivers had a tinny yet forced bass. I would much rather have a solid set of high end headset from Sennheiser, like their Game Zero and use Dolby Atmos. Linus never touched on Binaural Audio as it is 3D audio for headphone. He might want to check out The Sound Traveller, Falcon Heavy Launch to get the idea. I wouldn't mind trying the Sennheiser GSX 1000 or 1200 DAC block for stario headsets as they will exploit Sennheiser total in house R&D, technology development and pioneering Binaural Audio handling technology.

GlowInTheDark the only requirement is that your headphone should be stereo, you can download dolby atmos on microsoft store after that you need to active your free trial and follow the instructions, it basically leads you too spacial sound menu on sound properties to active.

    • Phillip Mulligan

Most quality motherboards have a Toslink optical or 5.1 mini jack connections they are 4 mini connectors however not 6 like on a home theater. However as an audiophile my experience with Tiamat 5.1 was very disappointing because it's sound drivers were poorly timbre matched or high quality. I went back to high stereo headset such as Sennheiser Game Zero and let the software or Dolby Atmos do its magic.

TLDR; The hyperx cloud alpha headphones are the best headphones i've ever had the pleasure of using *as an all-rounder* and i highly recommend them to anyone else, coming from an audiophile in the making.

When my QPAD QH-85 headphones (which were great) broke (the wiring came loose from the solder surface inside the right speaker), i did a lot of research to try and figure out what headphones could replace them. So after some research i found out that hardware-based surround sound is nothing but a marketing gimmick, and that stereo headphones are just as good, if not better at providing surround sound on the software level. After a lot of scouting on the web, i found a studio headset with good reviews that wasn't obscenely expensive (sadly i don't remember which one). I was on the verge of buying it, when i saw an article from a hardcore audiophile site reviewing the actual hardware. They had many good things to say about it and i also found out that the same exact speaker that they produced, was also used in a new "gaming" headphone - the hyperx cloud alpha. I was going to want to get a microphone anyhow so i looked it up and sure enough, it premiered only days before and there were quite little information on it from reviewers and the like. After a lot of digging, it turned out to seem pretty legit and the praise for the "dual chamber" technology being implemented in a "gaming" headphone for the "first" time actually does seem to hold water, comparing these to my old qh-45. I was also very keen on getting a pair of headphones with leatherette cups and a detachable wire, so that the stress from pulling on it would not force me to buy a new headset every year or so, but instead being able to easily replace the the wire. I also didn't want to use a usb soundcard so i didn't mind the absence of one. The sound is crystal clear and it sounds great for every conceivable type of music, albeit with some mixer tinkering for those times when you want to get a little heavier bass at the expense of losing some depth and clarity, like with doom's thundering scores. It handles classical music and electronic music just as well - hell, i turned up the volume and tried a few of my favorite games like skyrim, the witcher 3, deus ex human revolution, dishonored, crysis 3 and more that i specifically liked the sound design of and in almost every case, (especially skyrim, since i've heard those tavern scores a billion times by now) it sounded noticeable different to my older headphones. The clarity was so good i even noticed instruments that were simply inaudible or nearly inaudible in the qpad headphones. The one complaint i could argue for is the cups being closed. This gives the sound less depth, but the great "studio-grade" speakers more than make up for it. Also, considering how the rest of the headset oozes quality, i'm surprised they ship it with this volume controller, it's pretty meh...

Got Tiamat 7.1 v1 and now bought the Tiamat 7.1 v2... best headphones I have ever owned... if you tried them and dont like it but have not tried them with a real sound card, your opinion is invalid.

@Andrey Kotov Yea most people have no idea how good directional sound is on some *true* surround headsets + a creative card, but I'm glad I do. I'll never use a 2.0 headset for gaming again. I'd bet Linus didn't even have the Tiamat's set up correctly. Honestly, i'm glad most people don't know about true's. Better for us.

@keepsii you do realize Linus used them with built in sound output from the mobo right? People like yourself that have never tried them and trust ppl online without doing your own testing, again, your opinion is INVALID. Run along. You probably use your moms credit card to buy a prebuilt desktop from best buy and watch videos like these to drool over good tech.

I hate how most headsets comes with mic, i honestly dont need mic for anything even if i am a gamer, my native is not english so it would sound horrible if i try to "yell" at some kids...
real players can do it oldschool and type! or even have basic words in macro buttons... macro button 1: F**K YOU YOU SUCK!, and you get the drift :)
