Ungrateful immigrant. Speaks japanese like your average anime fangirl. She would have nothing without America and yet she plays under the japanese flag. I understand why Americans voted for Trump.

So she is way more American than Japanese. With about three years of school Japanese, you can understand those questions. She refuses to speak Japanese because she grew up in Florida. She is a dual citizen. She lives in the U.S. and the U.S. has nurtured her tennis. I guess she would rather be a big fish in a small bowl, or pretend to be.

tennis fans are really way different from other sports fans. serena's behaviour was wrong and the fans booing during the beginning of the ceremony was awful but that shit happens in football, soccer, basketball ect. all the time. that is what fandom looks like. the crowd is 99% pro serena so they will support her and boo the ref even if he was right and serena and her coach got caught cheating. tennis fans are used to players being very humble and fair-play so they fucking overract when shit like this happened.
you should accept that professional tennis has a lot of different characters coming from all over the world which leads to different personalities, different cultures, different attitudes. osaka is a great player but one of the main reasons female tennis and the wta become so big and the players can earn so much money now is because of people like serena, sharapova, wozniacki who make you care not only about the game but the human beings playing it.

idk i'm like that with about 4 languages.
i only speak 2 languages fluently, but understand around 4-6 more... i can translate instantly listening to 4 of them talking in the other 2 languages i do speak fluently.
it's just i only lived in countries where those 4 languages are the main language for a short while....it was long enough for me to be able to follow everything, but not long enough to practice speaking.

Jesus Christ I just finally listened to Serena's post match interview after seeing the initial classless buffoonery taking place during the match itself. I hope the boos from the crowd during the awards ceremony resonate to Serena Williams that her theatrics spoiled this young woman's moment of victory and for better or for worse will now forever be associated with Osaka's (heir to Serena's own now tarnished..) legacy. What a shameful performance on a national stage as an American athlete. Tennis fans (at times some of the most impassioned in sport..) booing during this entire charade here is nearly as lacking in tact. A strange, pronounced match.
Her (Serena Williams) name immediately being affiliated with "meltdown" as you type into the TVclip search results is telling enough.

The miss Japan was gorgeous, but I didn’t like her personality at all. She was extremely negative and bitter in several Japanese interviews. Perhaps that’s the reason she couldn’t get much support? On the other hand, Naomi is so sweet and humble, and she’s getting lots of love there. She’s unmistakably Japanese. Funny how most people questioning about her Japaneseness are actually non-Japanese.

Serena took no ones moment she was upset about something and she is human, your heart beats fast and works with your mind when playing a game because of the physical involvement. Check how angry footballers goes. Serena being angry didn't stop me acknowledging that Naomi won. When you play with a kid who is coming strong these things happen, she is under high pressure from the public and she is fighting to maintain her stands. Naomi is getting there, that moment when the world refuse to realise that age is catching up on you and you can't win at all time. After that fight there was no way she was going to come strong, we've all being there. Anger is the strongest enemy of all time because even where you could recover it doesn't allow you. Congrat Naomi, some day or another someone was gonna beat Serena she can't remain champion on all games but for now she still remains to be the champion of all time. Lets applaud them both and understand each person's moment. Any respectful kid will apologies after such an unexpected shock that doesn't make her less of a person but humble and God fearing. Now you all are saying why is she apologizing trying to force your bad habit in such a humble kid, leave her alone probably you would have been kneeling if you were in her shoes.

She was raised in the U.S. , moved to U.S. when she was 3 yrs old. AND raised in a multilingual family where her father's mother tongue is Haiitian Creole and mothers is Japanese...their household probably uses English as the main language to communicate amongst themselves as both parents probably don't speak each other's main tongue fluently . Don't be so quick to judge when you yourself have never walked in a person like hers shoes. You sound ignorant and dumb.

She’s like my brother in law who is Japanese American. His father speaks to him in Japanese and he response to his father in English. The way they communicate with each other is very effective as it allows both sides to fully express what they feel without letting the language barrier interfere as much

+Hugh Hoang - And people who aren't in bilingual homes don't understand this. I grew up around many bilingual friends and they did exactly what Naomi does in interviews. They understand both languages, but they will cater to the language they need to use in school, not home. That's why so many kids do this. If she was in Japan? She'd be fluent in both probably.

      +Boris Bornakiss,
If someone doesn't speak Japanese then they probably aren't very Japanese. This isn't a difficult concept.
Imagine if someone used a toilet instead of the street. They wouldn't be very Indian.

+plutopius I think the english interpretation of the Japanese media in general in this:
"don't let that fucking moron Mr. White ask queactions or else you will have cancer"....something to that nature 😆

    • plutopius
      plutopius 8 months ago

+Mr. White English is her better language but she clearly understands Japanese. Regardless, it would be helpful if anyone would mind translating in the comments.

    • Mr. White

Perhaps for the benefit of the audience but the fact that an athlete representing Japan can't speak Japanese is odd.

Spectators at US-open are the worst of any Tournament. They are respectless, childish, rude and loud.I´m also watching the mens final, the spectators have no respect at all.

NO ONE should ever have to apologize for winning against another great....ever. Little lady, you won it fair and square!!! Saying, "I am sorry it had to end this way cause I know everyone was cheering for Serena"....WHOA.....no no.....YOU are the winner for having also stood up amidst the unfairness against you in the crowd. Many of us are proud of you for your win, humility and spirit!!

+latinsizer man can you not see what you are writing? Kei Nishikori has his OWN house in Florida..same area in Florida as all the great tennis players practice including the Williams sisters...Kei been living there almost half his life...is he American?...I'm just saying...think about it why would she relinquish her Japanese citizenship if that's gonna reap her the best benefit..its her profession for God's sake!! why would she not want to profit from it?...that's all man...she can represent US but there's more money in asia especially women's tennis!! she's like the second coming of Li Na Japan style!

    • latinsizer
      latinsizer 8 months ago

You guys are dilusional, but whatever we will see in 2 years when she turns 22 and has to chose to either forfeit her U.S. or Japanese citizenship. She already told interviewers many times that her home is Florida.

+latinsizer she won't trust me..as I'm typing this millions of dollars are on her way just from endorsements (toyota, Nike might try to snag her from Adidas as her contract is about to expire, etc.)..why would she choose sorry ass USA who did not support her in the first place..and besides asia is a bigger market which means more mullah

    • gdl30
      gdl30 8 months ago
