Based on the box office numbers for Avengers: Endgame, you’ve all already seen this movie but just in case, be wary of spoilers ahead! Endgame was the culmination for eleven years of storytelling and over twenty films, so you bet there was going to be some epic moments. Arguably, one of the most epic bits in the entire movie came when Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, went flying into the open hand of Steve Rogers, who was already holding his Captain America shield. But how can Steve lift the hammer? Thor mentions in Infinity War that weapons made at Nidivelir cannot be held by mortal men as they would destroy the body and bring one to insanity. Yet Rogers is not only sane and alive but able to use the hammer effectively. In other words, the hammer deemed him Worthy of the Power of Thor, a concept that was set up in the very first Thor movie back in Phase One. This idea of Cap being “worthy” was further teased at during the early scenes of Age of Ultron and let’s be real, of all the characters in the Avengers, Rogers is certainly the noblest and most humble of the batch, fitting the criteria to lift Mjolnir effectively. Captain America lifting the hammer isn’t anything new either; this event has happened a few times in the comics and you can tell the Russo Brothers and Endgame’s writers poured over the comics to bring that moment to life. Seeing Cap lift the hammer in “Fear Itself” while yelling “Avengers Assemble” ranks as one of Roger’s coolest moments in our books.

Everybody saw thor's face when cap nudged the hammer. Cap was being modest. He didn't want thor's glory.
Which made him more worthy, so he accidentally moved the hammer.

When I was about ten plus years old I would read comic books each day after school. I remember an argument with fellow readers about if cap could lift Thor's hammer. I always insisted he could .Now, after 50 plus years, I can shout from the rooftop what Thor shouted I KNEW IT !!!!( although I was a little confused when Wonder Woman picked it up in the Marvel vs D.C. war ) Nuff said

@Aiviloxx to be honest I'm a little unsure ( it WAS 40 years ago or more.Sorry, old man I'm 9 years older than Dr. Who ) I think they were cowards and made it a tie. Recently someone reprinted the Spiderman vs Superman issue that started it all ( Sorry not sure who ) so maybe that will cause a reprint of the Marvel vs DC too

No one can be Captain America/Steve Rogers but Chris Evans. He owns the role. He did the most amazing job bringing this iconic Marvel comic book superhero onto the big screen. I can't imagine MCU without Cap.

That's not what being worthy means. If it followed your definition. Tony Stark would be able to since he was willing to lay down his life in the battle of New York. Being willing to sacrifice yourself isn't the qualifying factor. It's about your heart condition. Tony acts, thinks, and behaves with his ego first. Even though he may sacrifice it's coming from his ego. A person that will act with their ego cannot be trusted with that power. Captain America thinks of others first and will behave based on that principle. That is the basis of worthiness. The motivating condition or your heart (inner person)

How was Cap able to summon lightning though? Mjolnir isnt the source of that power? If it was then wouldnt hella have used lightning when it was hers?

Didn’t watch the video but I think the reason he couldn’t lift the hammer yet in ultron was because he was still keeping the secret of iron mans parents. Once civil war happened and eventually in end game when cap and iron man made amends he finally became worthy.

Because back in the day before Nazis claimed that hate speech is free speech and melted over Wolfenstein, it was perfectly fine to have Nazis as the bad guys. Especially in comics involving Cap. Nowadays, Nazis get mad when you portray them as the degenerate, violent, hateful, garbage human beings that they are. In other words, Nazis who hate political correctness cried until the comics were politically correct. Ironic, isn't it?

uh, I'm not happy with cap lifting and using Mjölnir. I think it should be left to Thor and not mortals. For centuries the symbol of Thor's hammer was as holy as that of the cross. This reference has been lost (somewhat) through antiquity, but nevertheless, it is a kind of sacred symbol and should not be played with.

I think thors father was smart so when he's not worthy so the still a worthy one to lift Thor's hammer.

Cap obviously knew he had the power all along. He wouldn’t have called for it in Endgame if he didn’t know he had the power.

He said it in the whole story this is how you know he was always worthy if it was even be able to have a little bugge he would still be able to lift it and of story
