Trump Keeps Stacking EPA With Fossil Fuel Stooges

  • Added:  3 months ago
  • Trump’s war on the environment is going well. John Iadarola and Jayar Jackson, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. www.tytnetwork.com/join

"Trump’s budget slashes the EPA’s main science programs by 47 percent, according to the former staffers’ analysis. “This area would be the most severely cut, contrary to verbiage in the Budget document acknowledging the important role of science in carrying out EPA’s regulatory, permitting and enforcement responsibilities,” says the report. “The damage is not only to EPA but to scientists across the country.” The budget includes an additional 7.9 percent cut to the Science Advisory Board, which provides expert guidance on the science that underlies EPA rulemaking.

The report from the former EPA staffers also provides some figures that call into question one of Pruitt’s oft-stated talking points that the Trump administration’s changes will allow the agency to refocus on its core responsibilities—clean air and water—and return environmental responsibilities to the states. Pruitt likes to call thisa “back-to-basics agenda.””*

TYT, Again you've missed the point. Steve Bannon has told us twice that he's here to "deconstruct" (destroy) our "administrative state" (government). He has also admitted that all these appointees who are enemies of their offices/departments is also a part of this deconstructionism.

He has made a "documentary" where he explains his idea of the "Fourth Turning", which he believes he can bring about through the destruction, or at the very least, the complete and utter rendering of the government as incapable of functioning. At that point he thinks that the failure of the system will allow him (and assumedly his white supremacists and/or Leninist - his word - friends will introduce the next order).

He has stated all this publicly. I do not understand why TYT and other news outlets seem to forget this stated agenda and act bewildered by these awful choices for all these positions each and every time.

If we ignore the overarching strategy here, then you'll just be adding noise to the buffoon-mystique of Trump, instead of clarifying the conniving actions of Bannon who is certainly an enemy of the U.S. government.

Trump himself is an excellent example, indeed the first example, of this deconstructionist vision in play. Bannon found a man who was the enemy of his office, the presidency, and he put him into it. Now they'll fill the rest of the administration with amateurs, foreign agents, and generally enemies of those positions. Once this is complete, the government will become dysfunctional, and I'm sure Mr. Bannon would hope for a utter failure or collapse.

Of course, all this is only phase one of his openly stated goals.

I think we all, TYT included, need to reinspect this announced "deconstruction" philosophy, and we need to stop forgetting about it. We need to use it as a reference point with which to understand what is actually happening in this country. Failure to do so, will most likely result in missing the point, not realizing what the problem is, and therefore not addressing or fixing the problem at all.

Come on TYT, if you can't keep up with Bannon's chess, then most likely neither can the other news outlets.

no they are not...but if HRC was president there would be no active opposition as we see it now forming...corporate overlords would still run the country as they do now, just not in such an incompetent and blatant way. Actually pro fracking Hillary might have caused even worse environmental dissasters in the future than Trump's coal ever will. This blatant ignorance we see currently in the administration will lead to a progressive change, that was desperately needed (and promised) when Obama was elected. Change may actually happen, it just needs to be build out of the ruins of what Trump will leave behind.
You think HRC would not have cosied up with the Saudies? Where was Hillary at DAPL? Where was she at the Flint water crisis? Would she have regulated Wallstreet? Nothing she ever did in ehr career would have indicated that. No matter who revealed the documents about the DNC and HRC'S campaign, they paint a picture of a deeply corrupt politician that has assembled an army of loyalists around her making sure her doner's agenda is fulfilled and the public still applauds it, simply because she is not an incompetent orange clown.
I say don't even impeach Trump, since what comes instead of him may actually do real harm for 2 terms.

Some very rich and very powerful people have invested a lot of money in fossil fuel. Now, via Trump (who is one of them), they are seeing to it that their investment is not threatened by any better alternatives. The world be damned...
They WILL introduce the rules THEY want and get rid of ALL the regulations that stand in their way. (The regulations that happen to protect the planet and the people living on it...)
They WILL have their profit, whatever the cost may be to the rest of the world. A short-term gain for the few and a disastrous long-term loss for everybody else. It's happening right now. Before our very eyes.

"You're missing the point. Coal mining is dying. If there was a high demand for it, then no one would have lost their job. No mine would be shut down."

Wait, what??? During the past eight years, the coal miners were fervently annoyed that their jobs were disappearing due to the coordinated effort to destroy the coal mining industries by the Obama administration. It wasn't a natural process that the coal mining industries were disappearing, it was a coordinated effort to crippled the coal mining industries in favor of the green energy industries. That's the point you're missing here.

"Energy makes the world run. They shut down them mines and everything is still operating just fine. Because they don't need them mines anymore. Bringing them back isn't going to do shit."

Yeah, as I said before, the previous administration crippled the coal mining industries. Green energy programs and tech companies were given incentives to have a "level playing field," or to be more frank, an upper advantage. Which obviously put people (like you) in the position to say, coal isn't coming back and green energy is the way to go. You stated that bringing back the coal industry isn't going to do shit, that's the complete opposite.  You'll see a rise of jobs and more importantly, competition in the free-market. That's something that should happen, not government mandates benefiting one another.‎
      ‎‎
"My point with the last part is that the US could've had them jobs and expanded their medical field instead of South Korea but Bush screwed the future economy of the US."

Oh, I see... Yeah, that's not going to happen. Do you know why stem cell research wasn't expanded in the U.S? It predicates on using an actual life to benefit the other person's sake. This is equivalent to abortion... That's not something people are going to be okay with.

"And now Trump has done the same thing with renewable energy. A president needs to be smart enough to see how future technologies can help his country. But republicans seem unable to do that."

No one is stopping companies to make green energy based technology. If companies want to focus on green energy, they can go for it. I don't think people will mind that (I personally don't care). What people WILL mind is when the federal government is telling an average citizen which energy best suits their needs. That's not going to work.‎

"Its probably due to their religion. When they sit around all day waiting for a rapture to happen, then they make it clear that tomorrows issues are of no concern to them."

It isn't due to their religion, it's based on actual facts, evidence, and what's actually efficient for everyone. Fact: Green energy is minuscule compared to fossil fuels, green energy is expensive and unreliable compared to fossil fuels. Evidence: Green energy projects in Europe and Australia failed miserably because they were inefficient compared to fossil fuels. The Obama administration crippled virtually 80,000 jobs in the energy sector and more due to hard-lined stance on energy. Not only that, businesses and corporations were stifled in the Obama economy. Efficiency: Fossil fuels are still the best form of energy and mostly reliable. Abolishing fossil fuels in general isn't feasible for the country and the economy. That's how it is.

Morhy Soumahoro - You're missing the point. Coal mining is dying. If there was a high demand for it, then no one would have lost their job. No mine would be shut down. "Yes, I want that. Coal is a dead industry. Do you think they shut down the mines because they had nothing better to do?"

Coal isn't a dead industry. Coal mining jobs are steadily rising thanks to the friendlier approach from the Trump administration.‎

"Its because of lack of demand. Bringing back coal jobs is as useful as bringing back jobs for people who made VCRs and steam engines."

Coal mining jobs were crippled due to the previous administration's opposition‎. They didn't care that they were crippling 83,000 coal mining jobs and giving massive subsidies to green energy companies. If you're saying that they're gone through lack of demand, that's because they were at a disadvantage.‎

"Its over for coal. Trump is living in the 1950s. The world is looking to renewable energy. That's the present and the future."

If green energy is the "present" and the "future," it should be through technology and innovation. Not through government subsidies and massive regulations. The reality is, fossil fuels (in general) are our best and reliable source of energy, they have been since the industrial revolution, and since then we have better technology and innovation such as clean coal technology, hydraulic fracking, and horizontal drilling. Green energy can't survive without massive incentives and environmental regulations, that's a fact. The only people who are touting this (green energy) are left-wing politicians, I.e the Obama administration.‎

"And Trump just screwed the future economy of the US by leaving the Paris Agreement which takes the US off the table for any new industries in the renewable energy field."

President Trump didn't screw the U.S economy by withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement. When analyzing the deal, the U.S has to lower CO2 levels while China and India don't have to do anything for the next five to ten years, the U.S has to redistribute taxpayers' money to other third world developing countries, and more importantly, we're essentially giving up our American sovereignty to the rest of the world. Analyzing all of this, the U.S was going to be at an economic disadvantage. How in the hell would that be okay for average blue-collar Americans, huh?

Also again, you're touting that green energy is the way to go. They're not going to supercede our conventional energy sources, not by a long shot. Economically speaking, green energy is going to destroy the middle-class why? Because of this notion that green energy is a whole lot better than carbon based energy. (-_-) Let's talk about efficiency, green energy isn't that powerful when comparing to fossil fuels, it's going to take a lot of energy to get to fossil fueled energy level, that's why it's going to be expensive to maintain if we're going to on one energy source instead of plenty through free-market. Your average blue-collar worker wouldn't like that.

"Our last republican president, Bush, did the same thing with stem cell research. Now South Korea is the world leader in that field and they have created thousands of new medical jobs. Republicans suck at seeing past the present hour they are living in."

Okay? I don't get your point here...

Our last republican president, Bush, did the same thing with stem cell research. Now South Korea is the world leader in that field and they have created thousands of new medical jobs. Republicans suck at seeing past the present hour they are living in.

thewander, its 500 participants "per night" for a total of 1500 participants at the end of the 3 days tracking survey.
The total sample is 1500 people with a 2.5 percentage point M.E. The results are also compiled on a weekly basis.
Its a tracking survey method (slow and long term). That you know apparently nothing about.
And Rasmussen was among the most accurate polsters during the last 2016 electoral cycle.
They said Trump's approval is at 50% right now and you can accept or discard them. But just know that they were the best last year.
While Gallup (these 37% numbers you crave) were so bad in 2012 that they completely stopped polling politics for more than 5 years.
Gallup was so bad in 2012 that they didn't even cover the 2016 election. Thats how bad Gallup was.
I bet you didn't know that either.

Fossil fuel stooges? More like realists. We aren't at the point where we can have 100% clean energy, and we won't be there for a while. There's no point in shutting down every fossil fuel based source of energy production until we actually reach the point where clean energy is a viable option. But the communists at TYT would have you believe we're all going to melt next year if we don't shut down fossil fuels and invest infinite money in China's "clean energy" sector immediately. Yeah, how are those IPCC predictions turning out? Oh, that's right, statistically, there hasn't been any warming for almost 2 decades now, but don't let those pesky facts get in the way of your communist agenda to tax the hell out of everyone.

"you seem to ignore the fact that with fossil fuels we have to keep mining again and again and again (thus big business oil keeps making money, day after day...hence why big banks prefer oil over renewable)."

By your stupid logic, there should be a business conspiracy to force individuals to use mainframes and drivr armored trucks.

"A few solar panels cost you, what....a few thousand dollars ONCE? How many thousands of dollars do you spend on gasoline EVERY YEAR?"

      Remember:
1 kg brown coal = 1 m^2 of solar panel per day.

Solar panels last 25 years, so:

      25 * 365 = 9.125 Tons of Coal equivalent

Average coal extraction rate per employee = 3 tons per hour.

"Mar 30, 2017 - In 2016, the average sales price of coal at the mine was $31.83 per ton, and the average delivered coal price to the electric power sector was $42.58 per ton, resulting in an average transportation cost of $10.75 per ton, or about 25% of the total delivered price."

      Can you do the math?

+Sejez "A lot of the playing field has been leveled" - no it hasn't...in fact the gap between rich and poor has never been growing faster...the more money you have, the easier it is to make even more...in fact, you can let all your investing do all the work and earning for you. We don't live in a meritocracy (where hard work is always rewarded) we live in some sort of immoral perversion called capitalism (where he who has the capital rules).

"and information is borderline free nowadays" - except you need a degree, and that's never costed more.

"potential thing nowadays" - ya right, like say Steve Jobs just had so much more potential than the next guy? He got lucky with the right product (computers in the mid 80s...just as they were becoming a real part of our lives and culture) at the right time...if not him, someone else would've done the same, VERY shortly after.

"when only change from within can save them" - oh gimme an Fing break...yes, the guy working 70 plus hours to try to feed his family 'just needs an attitude adjustment'...that's so Fing staggeringly ignorant and elitist I want to vomit. Seriously? Like I said, i'm glad you're so honest about being a immoral and unjust and ignorant as to the plight of others...Jesus would no doubt be proud of you, wouldn't he?.

"If people are that capable on their own why do they need a boss?" - because they don't have the collateral to start their own business, so they have to work for some other jerk...seriously, were you born rich? How can you possibly be this ignorant as to what it's like for the majority of people?

"and why would anyone pay a CEO more than a burgerflipper " - there's pay inequality because we live under an illogical and immoral system called capitalism.

"if such people were a dime a dozen" - they ARE a dime a dozen...i'd say at least 80% of the populous have the cognitive ability to be a CEO (with a half decent business education/degree).

" I wouldn't take such responsibilities" - lol yes, because ACTUALLY MAKING the product is somehow not as big a responsibility as supervising/organizing those making the product...by your logic, you'd win a war with general's alone?! The relationship is symbiotic...thus the pay should reflect that.

"or figure out a way to bring the banks to their knees" - lol well, wtf am I going to do? Do you seriously think bitcoin is going to wipe out national minting and central banking anytime soon? Gimme an effing break dude lol...I mean, I think bitcoin is great and all, but my kids will be long dead before something like bitcoin has any major impact the dynamic between rich and poor (if it EVER has a major impact).

    • Sejez
      Sejez 3 months ago

A lot of the playing field has been leveled, and information is borderline free nowadays, it's mostly an attitude and potential thing nowadays. You are really trying to pin all responsibility on a outside force when it's the thing you can influence the least, problem here is that the poor look to an outside force to save them, when only change from within can save them.

If people are that capable on their own why do they need a boss? I think it's pretty evident that most people would amount to roughly nothing without some guiding force, and why would anyone pay a CEO more than a burgerflipper if such people were a dime a dozen. Planning, pivoting, managing takes considerable skill, and I wouldn't take such responsibilities if the rewards weren't substantial.

Technology has even caught up with the state's monopoly on money printing and people have finally the chance to break it, so what will you do? Bitch about how oppressed you are or figure out a way to bring the banks to their knees.

"always revolves around tearing others down, it's never about improving themselves" - that's because THAT'S the dynamic of capitalism (and they DO wish they could improve themselves, but the system is rigged in favor of the rich...'it takes money to make money' as the old saying goes)...the whole idea (behind capitalism) is to start your own business (and make it as big as possible) and take advantage of and profit off your employees hard work...I mean, did John Walton somehow perform the millions of work-hours to earn his billions, or did hos low paid workers?

If the goal/point was instead to make all your employees PARTNERS, then the 'animals' wouldn't have any legitimate gripe, would they?

Exactly right. The right have been telling us for decades that businesses ought to have everything, and that we ought to remove protections to the environment and the workers because this will make all of us wealthier, and everybody will be better off, including third world countries, but the reality is that only a tiny group of people benefit, and everybody else suffers the consequences -- the environment gets destroyed; we get sick because of it; and we never get the wealth they promised: Right-wing ideology is nothing more than a scam.

What is the end game for all of this blatant environmental destruction?
Don't these malicious bastards have to breathe the same air, drink the same water and eat the food grown on the same Planet as the rest of us??
There is no Planet B !!
These polluters act as though their children, grandparents, friends, and neighbors are all immune to industrial and agricultural filth, disease, and pestilence that will flourish after the EPA is finally abolished.
    I don't get it?
Is having all the money in the world worth it if there is nowhere left on Earth to live free from pollution and the suffering that it breeds?
Perhaps that's their game... are they in the process of Terraforming the Earth to make it more suitable for some alien, 'PodPeople' lifeform infecting their minds and bodies so to take over and replace human life?
Fantastic, I know... however, can anyone else come up with something more reasonable?

    • Brian Linderman
      Brian Linderman 3 months ago

ED Martell The "End Game" is not going to be solved with the EPA, in fact their organization primarily responds to problems rather than generating future engineered solutions. If you want to focus on the federal government your answer will most likely come from the Department of Energy who supplies grants to thousands of companies working on future technologies that can help society. The majority of these will not come to commercialization, but it can inspire you to create something as well.

In reality the solution/ endgame isn't going to be just government. In response to Trumps actions the people and thus the private society must create engineered solution for the better of society as well. We can help reduce our own consumption of energy, and production of our wastes. We can invest in better technologies- not only for energy but for programs that we support. This isn't going to be cheap, which is major issue, but if you can convince yourself then go for it.

We can change ourselves to be more adaptable to climate change. We can develop buildings that can sustain more flood water or stronger storms. We can develop agriculture to sustain harsher conditions.

The problem is we need the media to stop arguing over basic policies and easily argumentive positions that draw easy views. I've been waiting over two years for just one single organization to create a debate between all forms of energy listing and draining their pros in cons with actual evidence and non-biased research; to describe potential solutions we can look for; and to discuss potential solutions in the future in terms of adapting humanity to greater climatic change.

Stop arguing that there's a problem for years, and instead debate about what are the actual plans for a solution.

    • Brian Linderman
      Brian Linderman 3 months ago

ED Martell You think its only about money? Has it ever occurred to you that the USA uses extraordinary amounts of electricity and products for all industries? We generate 4,079,079 GW/h in a year (GW= 1 billion watts). The reason you have the privilege of electricity in your home every morning is because these energy companies find and use products that help generate electricity.

Petroleum, natural gas and coal are also used in the manufacturing and use of over 8,000 commodities in this country. This includes all your fuels to transport yourself and all business products anywhere. This includes the production of plastics, rubber, lubricants, steel, concrete, pavement, asphalt, synthetic fibers like nylon for clothes, paints, chemicals for detergents or other household products.

Take a second to recognize how impactful the fossil fuel industry is in your daily life. Yes they make a lot of money for this, but they do, because they supply the product that is used for everything in your life that you use every second. That phone or computer you typed your comment on, was able to be manufactured in part by petrochemicals.

You might hate the specific person for what their ideals are, but act like the fossil fuel industry is only in it for the money and provides you with nothing, because that is insane!

Fossil fuel companies hire millions of people, and invest in alternative energy.

    • Eric Cartman
      Eric Cartman 3 months ago

Lets see how much money you'll get investing in oil companies 30-40 years down the line. If oil companies are still afloat.

Considering renewable energy is already cheaper than the production of fossil fuels, it wont be that long until they take over.

Its unfortunate that the USA and other governments are subsidizing fossil fuels to extend their inevitable death and give fossil fuel workers and investors invalid hope.

It also doesnt help that big oil creates propaganda and impedes growth of companies trying to make green tech reality. Can you really blame big oil companies for not wanting to change? They only care about the quarterly reports, they dont care about the long term or the big picture. This way of thinking is going to see a lot of oil companies crash and burn. The only way to ensure that the companies stay afloat in the future is to have investment in alternative energies.

Regardless of what you think about the market in general. Fossil fuel companies have a hard timeline of 50-60 years. Considering the rate of discovery, extraction, and the current cost of renewables; A wall at 60 years is going to see the demise of the oil age, wither if you like it or not. Many economists give figures of 40-50 years, closer to 40 if discovery rates drop and newables become even cheaper.

    • Brian Linderman
      Brian Linderman 3 months ago

Eric Cartman That's very interesting analysis, but completely wrong when you consider massive investments from firms like Vanguard, Prudential and Fidelity have trillions of dollars in mutual fund investments.

Now these don't have to be long term, but considering most of them are in fact retirement accounts, investment pensions, 401k etc and the fact that these assets have been on hold for decades by these companies there really is no shortage of fossil fuel investments.

The idea that FFFs are even remotely competitive with typical accounts is laughable. The invested interest of fossil fuels is greater than the net value of all "renewable" sources combined over the last 30 years.

    • Brian Linderman
      Brian Linderman 3 months ago

No taurus excretus "Where is all the electric vehicle infrastructure". Well seeing as these energy companies don't produce cars or electricity for the most part it's bizarre for you to assume that they would even know how to properly mass produce charging stations for specific electric vehicles?

Oil and gas companies primarily just sell the product of refined petroleum to carriers and franchises for pumps and their natural gas products to power plants for electricity generation. They don't own generally own mass quantities of other industries.

They talk too much about climate change.
The EPA is about keeping air, water and soil non-hazardous to Americans.
This leads to better health for millions and saves ten thousands if not hundreds of thousands of lives.
Climate change is controversial due to lobbying efforts - the idea that a factory should not poison your family isn't.

Yeah it's interesting, y2k was generally perceived as an anti-climax, but people mistakenly conflate the end result with the belief that it was an overhyped concern. I had my first paid job during high school inoculating company PCs for y2k and a lot of them had potential issues. There actually was significant fallout when the new year ticked over, but all the hysteria beforehand helped raise awareness and effectively prevented most of the damage that might have occurred. It's an interesting case study in media hysteria having a positive effect.

Maybe America was different mind you. Ive got to say it was funny in January 1st when nothing much at all happened lol

It's the same as with the GWB administration:
They do not abolish agencies as crudely supposed by Romney; they make sure that government isn't the solution by ensuring the same with the political appointments into leadership positions that debilitate government agencies.

Poisoning the water, land and air should be considered as a crime against humanity and a threat to all living things. Who among us wants to drink polluted water and contaminated food? Trump is destroying our entire ecosystem. The GOP is owned by corporations that only care about profit. In the very near future it will be impossible to find pure water to drink and pure food to eat right here in America.

why are you an idiot assuming shit from no evidence? how do you know they're burning fossil fuels? you don't, you just ASSUME. and factually, the only way they could be burning fossil fuels as we speak is if they're currently in a ICE vehicle or has heating on using fuel oil or 'natural' gas. sitting at a pc in the summer isn't burning anything...except your brain cells obviously.

Jessman9000 This comes down to how much you evaluate economy and how much you evaluate the environment. The final question is: is it worth it? Maybe cutting some findings and recitations will be damaging the environment a little bit, but if the economical benefit is significant, I will be for it. Don't forget the nature can self heal as well.On the other hand, if the regulation cut damages the environment much more than it's economical benefit, I will be against it. Also, I believe that with economical growth, the government will have more money to spend, hence, more money into protecting environment(if the funding percentage stays the same).
