Simon Dixon - The Modernisation of Russia, 1676-1825. This book covers the period in great detail (barring a few oversights or assumptions on the part of the author) but be aware that whilst it works well covering themes of change, Chronologically its all over the place.
Merry E. Weisner Hanks - Early Modern Europe, 1450-1789. Any video covering early Modern Europe will include this books it's just that good. Fantastic for broader context and examining things like the Orthodox Church will most other overviews aren't great at.

It's only 10 minutes but you could have paid a bit more attention how genius creating a new capital was. And the fun fact that he was actually 204 cm, which must have been quite a sight

the bolshevik admired peter the great for his rule that brings russia to its golden age..The difference between peter and nicholas II is that peter created a reputation for himself as an excellent Tsar who was undeniably great, while Nicholas II didnt understand that this reputation as the greatest is earned and choose to believe to his own hype and believe that just bc he was Tsar, the people would always loved him no matter what while himself slaughtered and imprisoned anyone that defies him rather than listening to their problem while peter refused to be a naive men and choose to listen to the people problem and what they need, that is why the people love him and respected him bc he earned their respect..millions of soldier were killed during the war between Japan and Germany..The Great Russian millitary forced was destroyed in such short amount of time bc of his lack millitary knowledge and just continues making a terrible decission..He knows that he is a weak millitary commander and still insist the millitary just do what he wants them to do,different from peter who is a millitary man that lived up to his name as commander...The people in Russia who protested were killed outside of their palace during nicholas's reign and through all of this he still believe to his own hype..in the end,his selfishness are the true factors leading up to the fall of the romanov dynasty and end up with his own family slaughtered by the people as revenge

Fun fact Peter stayed at a house in England on his grand embassy. Peter absolutely destroyed this house. He broke every chair, soiled rugs and ruined the garden which was one of the most beautiful in the world at the time. Peter the great was a absolute tool in that house. A Fucking drunk Russian czar obliterating a little mansion in England by making human wheelbarrows in a garden in a hilarious thought.

in 1722 When the Safavid empire collapsed in Iran Russians under Peter invaded southern caucuses and northern Iran while Ottomans invaded western parts of the empire, both were kicked out by Nader Shah Afshar. How come that's not in this video? In fact, Russian troops when they saw how Ottomans were crushed by Nader's army they just left and didn't even fight.
