  • Luis Cruz

There's a lot of creative story lines with female superheros, but the only reason Marvel has decided to do this is because of the succes of Wonder Women, (which is boring and stupid to me), and at the same time political. Because DC were the first ones to put out a major female superhero movie and that made Marvel have to do it, cause the fans wanted something like that from them. Otherwise they would look like a Male Supremacy studio. Nothing againts female leads, im looking forward to what Marvel can come up with, but just stating the facts.

SD Parker no not with Captain Marvel, but it does apply to the rest of the future female super heroes.

This has nothing, repeat nothing to do with Wonder Woman. Captain Marvel was announced by Kevin Feige in January 2015 (14 months before even BvS came out)... even if the release date was off.

sirmoonslosthismind 1rst of were not talking about Black Panther, 2nd of all there wasnt any mention or rumor that we were going to get a Black Widow film before Wonder Woman and after that we had rumors and now official statements that its happening. 3rd before Marvel studios broke up with Marvel Entertainment we had Jessica Jones and now Luke Cage, so its not like we were never going to get these films in the first place.

    • sirmoonslosthismind
      sirmoonslosthismind 9 months ago

there is nothing factual in your comment. marvel studios has wanted to do characters like black panther and captain marvel for a long time. they were hindered by ike perlmutter of marvel entertainment, who is a notorious bigot. however, disney reorganized after age of ultron, and marvel studios no longer reports to marvel entertainment. that's why we got black panther and that's why we're getting captain marvel. it has nothing to do with dc.

Loved The Nun! Horror movies aren't exactly known for their amazing dialogue. I went with 3 friends and we were all creeped out from beginning to end. None of the paranormal elements seemed grounded in reality so I needed a little exposition to know what the hell was going on.

  • YourCasualGamer
    YourCasualGamer 9 months ago

John I hate to brake it to you but gamers are not at all like that. There’s already a lot of people saying that the story for Marvel’s Spider-Man is better than any of the movies. Also while games are for their gameplay we are already seeing video-game stories at the level of Hollywood movies, and with the increase in quality comes the expectations that a games story is just as important as the gameplay.

    • YourCasualGamer
      YourCasualGamer 9 months ago

bloodsoldierZ here’s another reality check, casual gamers are not the majority of the gaming community. In fact, casual gamers are the lowest minority when it comes to gaming. Casual gamers are your CoD players, your Madden gamers, and your mobile gamers. Another fact, casual gamers are completely shunned from the community, I don’t endorse that, but that’s how it is. Casual gamers don’t know the in’s and out’s of gaming. You tell them the name of an indie game and they’ll go “huh?” and move on to play the next cod and madden year after year or play the hot new mobile game or the tren game. Casual gamers can voice their opinions, but they are not part of the voice.

    • bloodsoldierZ

+Justin Baggett Here's a reality check. A casual gamer can speak on behalf of the gaming community and they often do as consumers.

+bloodsoldierZ The very fact that you claim yourself to be a "Casual Gamer", completely undermines any points you may have. You are not allowed to speak for the gaming community or moviegoing public. So, keep your opinions to yourself

    • YourCasualGamer
      YourCasualGamer 9 months ago

bloodsoldierZ I felt the need to make the distinction because you have the ones who only call of duty and madden, known as “dude-bros”, and you have the ones who actually invest in the world of gaming.

    • bloodsoldierZ
      bloodsoldierZ 9 months ago

+Your Casual Gamer Well, since you felt the need to make a distinction between gamers, I figured "gamer gamer" must be a particular loser who plays a ridiculous amount of games, good or bad, and that's only really possible if you don't have a social life or a stable job. I think that's a fair assessment after that condescending line you tossed about the "I play games every once in a while'....gamer" which doesn't suggest anything of quality anyway.

Come on John think!! The main reason Tony DID NOT put Caps number from the flip phone into his main phone or a database is that it would be more easily tracked or found by someone else, like the government or even Shield?? Since it was in an older phone more than likely without GPS or external network access is that it was inaccessible from anywhere but the phone.

  • Dylan Todd
Dylan Todd 9 months ago +2

I think Tony keeping the flip phone is basically a representation of his relationship with Cap. Keeping the phone itself is a reminder of both how important Cap is to him and also the fractured nature of their relationship.

      @John Toland Animation Games Movies
Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther... all lesser known properties that are financial success
10 years ago when TDK trilogy was at its conclusion and Batman was at his peak, literally NO casuals were talking about those properties I just named above. Now casuals are more than familiar with those characters . Guardians is not alone, it's just simply the best example.
It's not about how well-known a character is, if that was the case all of these other movies based on original stories wouldn't be mega successes and based on that logic Justice League should have been the highest grossing superhero movie of all time, but no, Doctor Strange who is way less known than Batman, Superman, Flash, Aquaman, and Flash, made more than Justice League
It's about QUALITY. That's what the audience cares about.

    • Mike Noir
      Mike Noir 9 months ago

@John Toland Animation Games Movies I don't know how many times Marvel has to prove that recognition doesn't matter. How good a movie is, is what matters. Literally no one knew who Guardian were. Even some hardcore comic book readers hadn't heard of Guardians of the Galaxy, but look where we are now.

    • Mike Noir
      Mike Noir 9 months ago

@John Toland Animation Games Movies There actually plenty of female comic book heroes. You just need to give them a read and you'd know. There are many unadapted female heroes that could be brought in. Yes there are more male characters, but that doesn't mean you HAVE to wait 20 movies in a row just to adapt one of the females. It shouldn't be a 10 year gap just to make a female led movie in the mcu. If it kept up at this rate we'd NEVER hear the end of this gender stuff because the female led films would remain so rare, that it'd still be a novelty. It doesn't need to be that way. It'd be nice to reach a point where it's normal and common for both genders to have a movie release in the superhero genre.

    • Kicknowledge Smith
      Kicknowledge Smith 9 months ago

oh ok. out of all the women I know, none of them care about comics or any of these characters

    • Mike Noir
Mike Noir 9 months ago +3

@Kicknowledge Smith That's actually untrue. Today there isn't that big of a gap between males and females that read comics. Statistics showed that comic book consumers were made up of 39% young women ages 9-36 in 2016. That's obviously not even counting older female readers. And the gap is only getting smaller as people are changing with the times.
Times have changed. Yes back in the day, this was a "boy" thing, but it's evolved into an adult thing as well as well as a genderless thing. This isn't a "no girls allowed" culture anymore, so let's stop acting like it still is; give the comic book fandom more credit

Political: Let's make this movie because the lead will be female.
Not Political: Let's make this movie because this character is interesting. Oh, she's female? Not relevant.
We don't know the intention of the studio, it's crass to assume without good evidence.
    What we do know:
    1. Females are under-represented in comic book-adapted movies.
    2. There is an untapped market of women who represent more revenue if they can be interested in comic book-adapted films.
    3. There are interesting, well-developed characters in comic books who happen to be female.
There are strong commercial and artistic reasons to feature a female-led superhero movie. So long as they are made for these reasons and not for the sake of affirmative-action based social equality, then all that should only matter is whether the film is good. The conversation should only be about that.

The Gamer community is far different than the Marvel Movies, two separated medias, MCU could have made their Movies like the games, But SONY own it all, their the one who benefits from the GAMES, Not the MCU- Movies, The success of this GAME will determine if Spider-Man goes Back From the MCU to SONY, then he in the next VENOM movie, NOW compare the GAME with Miles-CGI-into the Spider-Verse Movie, See if that lives up, Who wins, SONY make every dime you give them

the real Question with Captain Marvel is Can a Woman lead an Earth Team of heroes, After we just found out She been working with the Kree with her own Kree- TEAM. "STARFORCE" the Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man & Wasp, are Not going follow her, Can anyone really Trust Aliens even Asgardians (Loki already proved that) That is why there won't be another Avengers Team, Spider-Man is going back to Sony, and I'm sure HULK is almost at it's END, What get's me is How young is Carol Danvers for her to have experience as a Air-force Pilot 1990 , before working with the Kree, for almost 20yrs she's been with the Kree fighting SKRULLS ? So if there is a "political Agenda" Let the Box office decide if Not Blame Kevin Feige, He wanted Captain Marvel the face of the MCU, He's not changing it for Marvel First Family?

I want Captain Marvel to make sense and fit into the MCU. Get that right, and I'm happy. And I'll even enjoy her for being a female as an added bonus. I'm rooting for her to be a hit like Wonder Woman, which was a wonderful film. But I have a right to disassociate myself from Captain Marvel if she fails, because there's nothing worse than an attempt for representation that one feels rightfully ashamed of afterwards. I'm allowed to pick who I want to represent me, and it's not an obligation to maintain solidarity with "my kind" when there are obvious flaws.

I'd love to see plenty more female-led superhero movies. I think the main reason there hasn't been so far is because these movies are taken from comic books that were written in the past for a different generation. Hopefully the culture is changing and new stories with cool female characters will gain prominence.
However, the reason people accuse it of having a political agenda is the marketing. Thor was never marketed as "White male hero comes to save the day (again)". But look at all the fuss created about Black Panther being the "first black superhero movie" (ignoring Blade 1-3, Catwoman, Hancock and countless films that have featured black superheroes). Then every critic has to rate it as one of the greatest superhero films of all time, when it was actually a fairly mundane and formulaic story, had weak CGI/action sequences and was not groundbreaking in any way other than for political reasons. Note, I am not accusing the filmmakers of this; it's the media trying to jump on a virtue-signalling bandwagon.
Don't even get me started on Brie Larson almost non-stop Twitter campaigning against 'white male privilege'. (Pot, kettle?) I love her as an actress and I can't wait for Capt Marvel, but she's really making it hard to follow her.

It is more than that. Remember, Cap is a fugitive at this point and that burner phone is a layer of security. It is all about caller ID and the response at Cap's end. A call from that phone will go right through to Cap with the expectation of an immediate, priority response. With the burner in play, a call from Tony's personal line would be taken as a warning that Cap's communications has been compromised and the trap is closing. Use that one flip phone, get a hero in a time of desperate need. Use any other phone to call the same number, Cap and everyone working with him goes dark and goes to ground. It is Steve's promise to Tony, but it is also a gesture of Steve's faith and trust in Tony.

I think a part of the problem some have with her getting this award is in the nature of the title "producer". Most are well aware of the fact that the title of 'producer" spans a huge spread in participation. Where someone gets a producer credit for something as simple as making a phone call to get two people connected, and someone else gets a producer credit for being a very big and significant part of making the motion picture what it is as a finished product.
In this regard when it comes to her I take into account what the people who have worked with her over the years have said about her skill and impact as a producer, with people like Speilberg singing her praises as a producer.
Yeah, she's a fail as the head of Lucasfilm. That doesn't change what was already a long and successful career.

She was a glorified secretary her first decade+ under spielberg and was never a creative force, she was always the one running paperwork. And she has spectacularly failed to do her job worth a shit in last 4 years. Firing 5 directors after thry had been on either already filming or ready to film or writing and doing pre-production for maNy months. She has cost countless millions wasted for Disney due to it as well as casts had to be repaid twice at times due to extension of filming periods. She is one of the worst executives in modern history. Even Campea who kisses her ass has stated this. You are delusional to not know that she is anything to write home about. She also has zero creativity, bankrupt mind, and now she has proven to be incompetent an unable to steer a ship over and over

41:00 No derivative heroes? They have War Machine, which is clearly derivative of Iron Man. They also have villains which are practically derivative counterparts to the actual heroes, embodying nearly the same abilities but doing evil instead of good. I don't see why they wouldn't do such characters tbh as long as they are based in the comics and not just made up for the movies.

    • Kevin Contreras
Kevin Contreras 9 months ago +1

Brandon Reed I think what’s Johns trying to say is that don’t use derivative heroes as the main heroes like Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America, etc . They can work as side characters

It's not an agenda, but making that statement and that weird "force is female" is pandering. It's no different than Black Panther taking as long as it did. I always thought Captain Marvel and BP should have come out years earlier but I don't believe Marvel/Disney believed their base would support it. Fast forward to today, anything with Marvel Studios stamped on it will make at least half a billion dollars, so they can basically do whatever they want and tap audiences they were hesitant to go after.

  • Nicholas Glenn
Nicholas Glenn 9 months ago +3

From the perspective of the majority of fans I think they feel having a female lead hero film is fine but it’s the rhetoric used to push it. Example: “The Future is Female”. Don’t make any statements about it just make a good character with a good story. It makes it look like they are pandering to a feminist agenda driven part of society.

    • eric salisbury
eric salisbury 9 months ago +1

So with a simple google you would know that "the force is female" is a Nike campaign to sell woman's shoes. And in context it makes perfect sense . As Nike quotes have always been about empowerment.

  • Kat Sam

I enjoy female led movies very much, but I think it's a bad idea to take minor characters and give them solo movies just because they are women. For instance, Sony is getting backlash from the fans because they have been announcing a lot of minor side characters from Spiderman's universe will be getting solo standalone movies without Spiderman. Kraven the Hunter, Silver & Black, Morbius. It makes no sense to have minor characters spun off as leads. It just oversaturates the market with weak movies, and hurts the genre in the long run. To write off any counterarguments as "woman hating" is just facile. Representation is important but can't be treated like a paint by numbers filmmaking. The characters have to be organic, have to be unique and compelling, and have to make sense. You shouldn't just give a black woman Iron Man armor and call her Iron Man 2.0. The audience is smarter than that.

speak for yourself. most men aren't going to be phased, and those few whiners like you won't be missed. marvel's audience is much closer to being 50/50 male/female than you seem to realize, and getting closer all the time. and you know they're going to receive a huge bump in female viewership for captain marvel.

    • Terraformer
      Terraformer 9 months ago +1

It won't tank, especially not after IW. But the tagline isn't going to help sell the movie to an audience that is mostly male.
Wonder Woman didn't use any gimmicks like that. It was just a good movie that inspired young girls that they could do it too. And given it was set in the early 1900s, they could have easily turned it into feminist agenda. It stayed classy instead.

Yankee Drummer there is a big difference between a Star Wars movie and a female lead film being successful. Quite frankly, if the agenda is to make more films female lead that do not involve the X-Men or Fantastic Four then you are setting yourself up for failure

My thought is that he kept the original phone because it's also the only sure means he has for Cap to call HIM if needed. It's a burner phone that the govt can't tie to either of them. Steve can call that line in an emergency knowing that Tony will pick up. If he just dumps the number into a different phone, it's no longer a two way street for potential communication and he could miss a distress call from Cap.

Yes it will get a boost from having a female lead so its gunna be easy to drag your gf And wife to see a comic book movie.... but its gunna need a really good word of mouth and critics need to be positive about it. It marvel can land this then all bets are off for marvel and I see them bringing alot more crazy characters to life!

Val Duke It might do wonder woman level; NOW based on the hype and concerns surrounding it. And ant mans numbers are barely anywhere close to doctor stranges numbers. As I said... 700-900 seems appropriate for NOW. Also, Captain Marvel will be like Ironman so yeah go figure

    • Val Duke

@Snehil Shrey this will make less than Wonder woman for several obvious business factors. It'll do well enough, but not Wonder Woman level. Ant-Man or Doc Strange level( if its not a misandrist crapfest film with no character building, worst thing is a character without flaws that doesnt grow over course of film..thor.cap.iron man.doc strange.all grew as characters)
