The Greatest Trans Am Ever Built? 7 foot wide, 700hp, 10,000rpm Track Ripper

  • Published on Jan 4, 2019
  • This is our entire crew's favorite car of SEMA 2018: Riley Stair's WIDE and LOW (yeah, all caps) 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. But what's even better about the ridiculously good looking bodywork and batshit N/A motor, is the fact that Riley built and fabricated this thing himself in his parent's outdoor garage bay. Major props.

TheHoonigans I'd take it back to the dyno and see how many layers of goosebumps I can get in a hour, because the dyno snippet was just a tease.😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
My congrats to the builder, awesome car and thanks for posting. 👍👍✌✌👊👊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

I have this same car. The only thing I don't like is how he run the headers. There is no way I would run them like that. My car is set up for drag racing and my engine sets way back like that. But I did not run my headers like that. My car is only 3 inches off the ground with a big block 632ci chevy engine in it with 1100hp. This car he has is nice looking and I like it. Just not liking the headers.

however this got built - it's stunning. the subject matter is legend here in Trans AM USA. spot on for the car to build. Since it was just a skin - the actual chassis looks like something of a cross between Trans AM and maybe Nascar with a little SCCA and some other cool stuff that this builder loved. That exhaust system up front like that is totally radical in build philosophy - nothing like I've ever seen, but it does make sense. the heat stays off the lines running down low and the water cooled engine won't care. it might get a bit warm in the cockpit but an ac unit will fix that right. i think a light weight belly pan to encapsulate the engine bay might be in order here. something well ventilated to keep things cool but protect the lines. probably al6061-t6 sheet would do the job best. polish to a sheen and cut some pretty louvers in it. zeus it into the frame, what there is of it. think your engineering is incredible. you sound smart and from your work you are. it's rare to prove this kind of skill. the pic of the white TA kept showing up on the recommended and I finally bit as I've owned several TAs. glad I did. Kudos.

It may be fast but it looks ungainly. The wheel flares are too abrupt. They need to begin another 6 inches forward and aft from where they begin and end now. All that negative camber is going to wear tires in a big hurry and unless it's a true race car not needed.

I'm trying not to be a hater here. Because this guy can fab like a no other. It's definitely unique, it's different....but it's not a pontiac anymore....It's a basically a monster with some poor 1970 pontiac firebird's face on it. I mean kudos for the vision, the fucking quality is insane, I LOVE THE FACT HE PAINTED IT WHITE!! A little bit of inside baseball here car builders who have LESS TALENT will avoid white like THE PLAGUE!! If your panel work is shotty...white will make it look ten times worse. But again. I feel like he made something cool but he killed the car doing it. I feel like an artisan would change what's there and make it better rather than just cut it all out and put the best everything in it's place. It's still gotta be a car and I feel like this is all machine.

This is an amazing build for a young man to build. Even though he built this next to his parants house. He must have had a significant amount of funds even if you can do some work your self its a significant. I had at 10
970 Buick Regal and i did a complete engine and trans replacement infact i put a SBC 305 into a Buick so ofcourse i had to change the engine mounts. This was not rocket science but it did require some funds and lots of effort...this Pontiac is beautiful and simplistic in appearance yet its of sophisticated at heart, no matter how many hands were involved it was beautifully executed. Thx for sharing job well done👍

with the offset of those wheels, you can bet the wheel bearings take a huge beating. There is no way this is a daily driver, especially with the camber on the front

Other than a few body panels there is no Trans Am left, I never understand how someone can call a car totally custom built car or truck the same as a bit of sheet metal. That being said this guy has some serious talent, this is an awesome car that resembles a 70's Firebird.

Sorry but this car is strictly for for freak show gawking. It looks ridiculous once you really get into the whole build. Sits way too low and you can see the scrape marks on the tires from the flares. I love these old Firebirds when they sit on a decent stance. Oh and check out the 'Trans Am' series show for how a real Trans Am should be....certainly not like this oddity.
