    Finding a job in the Baby Boom Era;
    (walks into random place)
    Me: Hey! Hire me!
    Boss: You got it! Also, here's some awesome benefits and job security!
    Me: Sweet! Thanks!
    Finding a job now;
    (walks into random place)
    Me: Hey! Hire me!
    Boss: Do you have (more years than you've lived) of experience, a Master's Degree, know three different languages, can defuse a bomb, knows how to build a Ferrari from scratch, and has successfully colonized Mars?
    Me: No, but I know someone here through a friend...
    Boss: You're hired!

    I was making $20 an hour at 17 baleting at a ropes course at the summer camp I went to as a camper and was a counselor at. I made min wage in the summer but they had youth groups come in in the fall and they needed someone to run the ropes course. I would come and work whenever thry had scheduled making 80-100 a day on weekends my senior year of hs. Unfortunately they closed when winter hit and went outta business the following spring but I was working at a gym. I just graduated. I miss that tho I liked my boss. Job wasn’t that hard and I was making bank

  • Will M
    Will M 25 days ago +1

    The impoverished proletariat is forced to sell its only commodity, labor power, because it has no private property of its own to produce wealth. The proletarian, unlike a slave or a serf, is not guaranteed an existence, and is forced to find a capitalist to sell his/her labor too. His/her probability of finding a job becomes increasingly unlikely as more and more jobs are replaced by automation, and potential workers are forced to compete for the remaining jobs. Thus, capitalism is like a cage which puts man against man in order to work for someone else. Once you do get a job it isn’t completely rewarding either. the harder you work the richer your boss gets. In order to make a profit without working, your boss has to partially exploit your labor. Your boss is getting rich off of your labor. Your boss needs you, but you don’t need him. Labor is entitled to all it creates. You have nothing to lose but your chains.

    Minimum years experience is just a way for companies to reduce the number of applicants or offer the person they do hire a lower salary. I've worked with people who've had a job for 20 years and are more clueless than someone that's been there a month.

    Pretty much, though contrary to most of the comments section's belief... the solution to the problem is not make tuition free. You can have a Bachelors in almost anything and still be stuck at some crappy Entry level position that has nothing to do with what you majored in. The problem is that too many people got suckered by the notion of "be educated and you'll live better" mentality of the 60's-90's and took on student loans when they/their family couldn't/wouldn't pay the fees for them to attend, and now the market is over saturated with people who have the degrees that /were/ necessary for the higher paying jobs. The liberals of the world think that this somehow means higher education should be made free; since now you more or less /have/ to have one otherwise no one will hire you, even though the problem is that TOO MANY PEOPLE HAVE DEGREES. The solution to a problem of over abundance is not: Make the over abundance worse. The solution is usually: Find a way to reduce the amount of production of people with degrees (IE raise the university prices, or the GPA required to get a degree, or both) or find a way to increase the amount of jobs available. Well, the second has happened in the form least desired by the populace: now the lamest of crap-paying jobs require degrees because they can demand them and find people who have them and need a job. So that one isn't working out so hot for the people who took out loans without having a real plan in place for how to get their foot into places that'd pay them better.
