In China's far western city of Urumqi (the capital of Xinjiang), the food becomes less Chinese and more Middle eastern. Here you find Muslim cuisine that shows just how diverse China really is. I was super lucky to try the lamb kebabs cooked on the street on my way back to Chengdu from Turkey.
    Please like:
I had a quick layover on my way back home to Chengdu from Istanbul in Urumqi. There was only one thing to do, eat Xinjiang food and compare the Kebabs to the Turkish kebab that was still in my stomach from the night before.
The total cost was 50 RMB ($7.87) for 3 awesome dishes:
    5 Huge lamb kebabs
    4 huge steamed pumpkin baozi
and one massive rounang bun filled with juicy lamb and onion
All in all, the food here was super delicious, except for the lamb kebabs. Ironically, I came specifically to try them, but they ended up being the least delicious of the three. The rounang took the number one spot and was crowned the most delicious Xinjiang food I tried in my very very short stay in Urumqi.

The people in Xingiang are called Uyghars. Actually they are a branch of Turkish. The ancient Turkish people traveled from here, thru' Middle East and settled in Turkey. However, there were some who would not risk to take a long journey. They are Uyghars.
Their language are more or less the same.

Over time I've come to the conclusion that food can only be so good. I mean it can be really bad too, but it can only be so good. Even the most expensive French food or the most exotic Thai food has limits to how delicious it can be. And at its best, food is delectable, and in the middle you have edible, and at its worst is torture. The hardest thing about cooking, I find, is consistency. Making something that's great, great every time, so that it really IS that good. It's very challenging. I've made the same dish dozens of times and each time it's *slightly different. Very frustrating.

Man, there're way more bestest foods than these. yangrouchuan, pumpkim baozi and rounang is like fried chicken, veggie wrap and pizza in the UK, not even fish and chips. Next time you pass there, please try DaPanJiBanMian(spicy chiken with broad noodle), ChaoMiFen(a specific spicy rice noodle only Jinjiang has), NangKenRou(meats were roasted in where Nang breads were baked) and BanMian(thick noodle with various souces, this is the everyday basic food in Xinjiang, simple and super delicious).
