  • Published on Nov 19, 2018
  • We challenged chefs of three different levels - an amateur, a home cook and a professional chef - to make their versions of spaghetti & meatballs. And then we brought in a food scientist to review their work. Which one was the best?

I'm a lvl 4 chef. I use the same 3 meats as the chef does but I kinda overcook the meatballs a little bit to give it a small crisp to it. My sauce, I never use canned tomatoes, I stew my own with herbs and spices.

Love these videos! BUT honestly LvL 2 cook annoys me, he just conveys every Food Network chef personality that annoys me.

    • Robert Thomas
      Robert Thomas 2 days ago

+MouldyUsername The comment was directed more towards personality rather than advice. I feel that we can watch many shows with a variety of different actors and personalities, but that doesn't mean we have to like them all. I only find Lvl 2 cook/chefs Camera personality annoying, much like every early morning TV host. Over exaggeration with every word or gesture. Granted he is funny, but it gets old fairly fast, he could be the complete opposite in person and I have no comment about that. The advice is great on this channel, I just have an annoyance with over the top personalities I don't find genuine, but I am fully prepared to be wrong. Just my opinion, not fact.

Being Italian not impressed by 3 cooks who don’t even know how to eat spaghetti. Canned crushed tomatoes has skins. Using whole eggs can give fresh pasta an egg white flavor. Natural sweetness in the sauce comes from the ingredients such as tomato paste, long cooking and the meat used. The sauce should match the meat. A good meatball cries for a rich thick, in my family’s case, 100% tomato sauce. A good pork bone can do more than any carrot. Why make spaghetti if you can’t twirl it?

So ever since I saw this video 2 wks ago I've thought about trying some of the things chef 2 & 3 did. My husband said it was really good. So good that even though he was full he kept eating it. Honestly, it was the best I ever had and made. The cheese rind didn't melt so I don't know if that part should have or not but all in all it came out really good!
