If you're awesome and want to "join" #TeamTrees, use the first link in the video description or you can click on the TVclip donate link above! My favorite thing about this whole movement is that tons of people are coming together from all over the internet to unify for a common goal. I genuinely get excited when a diverse group of people come together to do something amazing, and I believe this could be our moment. If you're a working adult, please consider donating in a big way to this. I can think of no more efficient way for your dollars to be converted into ACTUAL, REAL LIFE TREES! LET'S plant 20 Million trees!!

What if trees as much older species on earth are farming humans in order to obtain CO2 from us? We don't have right data end models yet but with all the O2 they put in the biosphere they also put lots of H2O vapor thats like most potent greenhouse gas that we have in atmosphere? Means if we have much more trees/plants on earth in total we warm the planet even more globally? I like trees and would like warmer climate cause im in temperate myself, so yeah! Plant trees! :D

@2:39 We discuss the planting of trees . The problem we have is related to trees but it isn't the trees. The problem is our disturbance of the soil in particular the soil ecology . In a sense the soil is another world much like the world above ground. When we pull trees out of the ground or chop them down we essentially drastically alter the micro climate established in that area. The change affects the biology in the soil like fungai ,bacteria species and biology that all co depend on each other. When these links between species reduces or collapses the ability for trees to feed collapses too. In this way for us to plant a trre into poor soil ( limited biodiversity /biology under ground ) is like dropping off a human in a desert like environment and expect them to survive. In my opinion this is a very ineffcient way to bring back an area from it's forested past. Add to this not only is the soil affected badly but the climate in that area , the balance between water evaporation to atmosphere and the water table below. The destruction of soils means that water cannot be retained by the soil but rather runs off into the streams and with it dragging any human compounds with it fertilizers, pesticides. Now we affect water ways and kill of the ecosystems in those regions. The effect of tree /forest cutting is so damaging that it is capable of collapsing regions completely or down to such a small scale of life that we stop absorbing quality nutrients because crops are so poor in natural nutrient. The mono culture in farming reduces the soil biology drastically and biodiversity and the regions begin to slowly decay of all wild life above and below ground. This is evident with bee population collapses but this is happening in many levels of animal and microbiology. The take away is to plant trees is extremely inefficient and costly , many trees may simply not be able to grow without intervention. What we need to plant or do is create soils environments that breed micro biology to build soil and this usually happens in an order from low grasses ,fungai to larger plants and trees. Biodoverse soil allows for plant density ( just like our old forests) Not only can they self sustain extremely dense forest but the size of trees also becomes possible. Large trees 100's of years old of which many are now chopped down provide extremely deep biodiversity .Think of them as the natural sky scrapers reaching high into the sky but also very deep into the earth. That depth provides robustness to the under life of the soil. Without the microbiological life in soil there are no plants ,no trees no humans. Create compost, and plant that everywhere and let the trees come naturally. Forests are the batteries of our source of air they provide us with stability and robusteness in climate and air for us to breathe.

Plant 20 million TWICE PER DAY and you'll balance current US emissions (doing nothing for the last 100 years of emissions).
Later they'll die and rot releasing their carbon back into the atmosphere anyway, but Shhhhhhhhh!

an unrelated thought. movie makers Love to include rainy moments. why is it that so few of them realize that the use of extremely FAT rain-drops is a lameass solution. imo, normal-sized rain drops Can be photographed; with the right lighting. aside from videos on the subject, support for this assertion can be seen in certain cases, for an instant, when a lightning flash is simulated, while rain is falling. cheers

Trees need fire to grow healthy just as the same as farm crops (mostly used as meat feed) need fire. Difference is a lot more species benefit with the trees as opposed to one species for farm crops.

    • seigeengine
      seigeengine 9 days ago

Farm crops don't need fire to grow healthy. There are some advantages to burning leftover crop residue in situ, but this is mostly done to expedite replanting.

That´s the kind of video I have wanted to see on this Team Trees thing. When it comes to campaigning for something, short slogans like "20 M trees by 2020", or "One Dollar, One Tree 'are functional and fine. But I, for one, would not spare a dime on such open-ended statements. So, for me and for many, the assurance that this type of endeavor is actually made with much care, science and expertise is fundamental. One could make a ton of money by charging 20 million dollars to plant 20 million trees if all one had to do is prove they have planted that number of tree seedlings on the ground. It has to be done well, giving the little trees the best chances in the long run, planting the right species, in places where there is not a good chance they will be just cut down in a couple of years, so on and so forth! How about a video on the very people in charge of Team Trees planning and planting?

  • MagnificentXXBastard

Sorry to dampen the enthusiasm here boys, but 20 million trees is nothing more than a symbolic gesture, they are hugely overselling this.

20 million trees will only offset the US carbon footprint from half a day. So you'd have to plant 20 million trees twice a day to make just the US carbon neutral, not even talking about the rest of the world.
Just for scale, there are 800 million dead trees just in colorado right now, most of them due to the effects of climate change.
