Great Pats D = Cooks drops and poor Goff execution.

Moral of the story: Bill belichick is the GOAT, Patriots defense has been top 10 for several years. Tom Brady throws great 5 yard slant routes to WIDE OPEN receivers and he is still overrated. Julian Edelman is elite. Oh yeah and Brady's o line has always been good

Obviously you don't watch enough for the Patriots just enough so you can hate them and Tom Brady more than 5 yard open receiver slant but you'll never agree to that because you just hate them tell me a quite a back in the game right now that reads a defense better than him

The old saying is "it's not cheating if you don't get caught." With the Patriots, it's "It's not cheating even when you're caught twice." It's amazing that a team notorious for cheating, to the point where the man named Super Bowl MVP got busted for PEDs earlier in the year, gets the benefit of the doubt that they didn't cheat, but were still able to hold the best offense in football to only 3 points. Why isn't anyone asking where Ernie Adams was leading up to the Super Bowl or what he was saying into Belicheat's headset and Deflady's helmet? We know that the Patriots cheated in the past because they knew what plays the other team was calling. With the advances in technology since Spygate, why are we assuming they're not taking advantage of that technology to cheat the same way, as well as learned how better to avoid detection? Why aren't the same reporters who were investigating steroids in baseball investigating how the Patriots have become more advanced at cheating and not getting caught?

It's bad enough that during the game, the officials called that fake penalty on Gurley's 1st down run, and that no one is giving Alex Guerrero the same scrutiny they gave Brian McNamee with Roger Clemens when it comes to a trainer helping a player continue to compete in his 40's, but on top of everything else we're expected to forget what happened in the past and pretend that there was no funny business by a team who cheats, when a team that scored 30 points in almost every game this season only scored 3 points in the Super Bowl. We're supposed to believe that a team who's known to cheat was able to not cheat and be uniquely qualified to hold one of the best offenses to only 3 points in the Super Bowl, and shut out the best offense in the AFC for an entire half of football during the AFC Championship game, and deprive us of the Super Bowl we wanted to see, a rematch of that Monday Night Football game.

    • Don Belenger
      Don Belenger Day ago

You know every team in the NFL cheats and gets caught but it's only blowing out of proportion when it's Patriots because they win they've been teams caught deflating the ball since the Patriots and nothing happened to them

Perfectly legal, contact was made almost at the exact same second as the ball arriving. Also, he did hit the hands and that's why Cooks dropped it. Perfect timing + Crappy throw = ridiculous play that saved the game.

For the record, I am a die-hard Pats fan (and a lifelong Cowboys fan, too -- yes, I admit it.)
    Don't Hate - Appreciate
The Pats have been correctly accused of cheating in the past, and some of their players have also been correctly accused of cheating (e.g., both Edelman and Gordon.) My guess is that there are other offenses that have been committed -- intentionally or not -- that have not been brought to light. They no doubt are always trying to understand the rules and press the boundaries of the rules to gain an advantage. In the process, they have been accused of going outside those boundaries. Whether or not other teams are guilty of the same offenses or not or even other offenses neither excuses nor justifies what the Pats have done.

So, what then? The Patriots and the accused players have been penalized (arguably over penalized) in each of the cases. Do we feel that the punishment was not substantial enough? Should the team, specific players, and/or the coaches (or owner) be banned from football for life? (Gordon might already be experiencing that.) How much is enough? Whatever it takes to prevent them from winning now and in the future? (Though the penalties already seemed to attempt that.) Should they not be allowed to compete for the Lombardi?

People speak of the Pats as if there is a culture of cheating there. If such was the case, should not that been completely evident and substantiated not only from persons looking for reasons to discredit the Pats but from a steady dose of players that have come in and out of the Pats organization? 18 plus years of players revolving in and out of the Patriots, yet where are the chorus of ex-Patriots attesting to the cheating ways of the organization? Even among the rather large group that does not have rings? Yet, for even those players that could not rise up to the demands within the Patriots camp (e.g., Chad Johnson), the chorus they sing upon leaving is far from the chants of those simply wishing to discredit what has been accomplished by the Patriots organization. The culture is one of being prepared and winning!

I am glad I can appreciate what has been accomplished by the Patriots. Perhaps it is because I am fan. However, as I Pats fan, I still appreciated what Peyton Manning accomplished despite the fact that I rooted against the Peyton Manning led Colts regardless of who they played. There are few NFL players I esteem and appreciate above him. Were he and the Colts able to pull off the same dynasty that the Pats have, I would have been extremely annoyed (since it would have been them in the superbowl instead of the Pats), but I would still have appreciated his legacy just as I do now.

As for SB LIII, I personally enjoyed the drama of it, and I can understand why non-Rams and Pats might have found it boring. It all depends on what your level of interest is and what you find enjoyable. I enjoyed seeing Goff get pressured, hit and spun around. I enjoyed watching the Rams punter completely negate the offensive progress that that the Pats were making. (The score hides the fact that NE was moving fairly well down the field, even in the first half. Edelman had over 90 receiving yards in the first half.) I did not enjoy (as a Pats fan) who the Rams defense was able to neutralize much of the Pats offensive game. Of course, I enjoyed the final outcome.

Looking forward to next season, and hoping for a Patriots vs Cowboys superbowl!!

  • David Stutz

Brian Hoyer told media straight up on how they stopped He said they watched the Rams on Hard knocks and noticed throughout the playoffs and regular season that they had exact same names for calls so it was incredibly free/easy for the coaching staff and the captains on defense to counter every single snap. So not cheating but doing their homework and it shows it was just enough.

This super bowl was average, it wasnt the best, it wasnt the worst.
The defense: For those who like a game in which no one shows up, this was the best super bowl. But still, the rams couldn't stop Julian Edelman.
The offense: People say that the NFL is all about offense these days, in that perspective, this was the worst super bowl ever to exist in the history of mankind.
