I think... it's interesting. Especially when there are millionaires who you know are "self made", or who started from nothing because it seems like they never take into account the fact that it wont work for everyone, and it can't work for everyone and now that they are in this position of wealth or status they're kind of defensive over it? and insistent on the fact that because they did it, everyone can do it. But it's not realistic, or attainable for everybody. In an ideal world, of course with enough effort and hard work everyone could become rich. But we don't live in an ideal world. There are people born at various disadvantages, people who are in situations where they can't afford to save money because the concept of saving money hinges on having extra money to save, people who systematically are at a disadvantage, etc. No one is trying to discredit the work that the millionaires put in, more so just trying to get them to a place where they can understand that just because those experiences are their own doesn't mean that they will work out for everyone, or be attainable for everyone.

If your a millionaire you weren't always born with your family having all that money.
My grandparents are millionaires but BOTH of them grew up poor. My grandpa even has a memory of his dad killing his pet because they needed food. Now my grandparents are donating to charities and are very well.

I disagree with the part about working hard or just having the mindset for you to be able to succeed and gain more money. Coming from a 3rd world country where a lot of workers actually work hard everyday yet they still struggle financially, you’ll understand how privilege plays a big role in determining someone’s status. Some of these workers never had the chance to finish school and even if they work hard everyday, they still don’t get a better life just bc higher paying jobs require education, which they can’t even afford in the first place. And so having to hear that it’s a mindset that you need to form to be able to succeed in life shows that sense of privilege that not everyone has or can have.

Americans. Still thinking only working hard makes you rich. Ignoring the privilege of a supportive family system, a school system, a health system, the rich country they live in, their lack of sickness or disabilities and pure luck. There's so much more to financial success than hard work.

I think that’s a very sheltered 1st world way of thinking and I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with that because that is, of course, the American dream. The idea that even if you come from nothing you can still succeed if you try hard enough, but I think it’s important to realize that America is just one country on this huge planet, and not everyone was so fortunate at birth. My job has allowed me to go to places that are just (in one way or another) devoid of hope. Where the average person make only cents a day and the only really wealthy ones are the sex trafficers and warlords.

How about someone actually talking about about predisposed advantages here? It's not all about 'working hard or smart'. What about people with handicaps? Mental illness? Environment? And don't get me started on discrimination in terms gender, sexuality and race. You don't just get over or work hard to get rid of those things. Why do rich people think they work harder than others? They don't necessarily do that, they just had better predisposition. It's a hard pill to swallow, cause it sure does damage the ego. Plus if everybody were to be millionaires and entrepreneurs, who would do the labour for their ideas? All work is necessary from the garbage man to the CEO. Don't make it about who is working harder.

Not everyone can become a millionaire. There are so many extenuating circumstances, whether that be where you live, your family, people you need to take care of, health issue, political climate, etc. which impact everything greatly. You can be the hardest worker ever but if you have mouths to feed and debts to pay you don’t always have time to go to open houses or rebuild eveythingf over again. The idea of the “self made man” and the “american dream” are both unrealistic, damaging, and overall old fashioned.

    • Stupidgracie
      Stupidgracie Day ago

Ghost572 I see what you mean, I guess it’s just my perspective, but I’ve had aunts and other people inherent debts and kids that weren’t even theirs, and experience different forms of abuse. Maybe my family just has bad luck, but I can see plenty of reasons about why people can’t become millionaires. If I worked hard enough I probably could because I have a regular old life, but some of my horribly treated or poor beginning class/health cousins and friends don’t have much a chance without outside help and support. I’m not saying they can’t make something of themselves, but becoming a millionaire or something like that can very rarely be achieved without the help of others. Be self made is one of the most difficult feats to even get to he level of middle class.

    • Ghost572
      Ghost572 Day ago

If you've got mouths to feed then its your own fault for having children so early. Same with debts, I mean I can understand in America that people get tricked into them because the country loves screwing its younger generation over but for other places in 1st world countries in Europe don't really have that much of an excuse.

The bald man really does have a life-long minimum wage worker mentality. Basically everyone starts at a minimum wage job and most people move up. The people who don’t are usually the ones who believe there are things holding you back, things that you just can’t overcome, that you can never be rich, etc. These people won’t have the drive or the courage to take the risks necessary to make it big. He was talking about risks not working out and, from that, you just have to start again- you will fail many more times than you will succeed and the mindset of I took a risk and it didn’t work so I’m going to stop is what will keep you at a low paying job the rest of your life.

  • Kahpeh Coffee

You can't really blame this millionnaires for being rich because they obviously risked a lot to get into that position. You have to be smart in your life decisions in-order to be successful
