"Sean Hannity is losing it over progressive Democrats’ Green New Deal, a policy proposal that would push the country toward 100 percent renewable energy over about a decade.
He is particularly upset about an idea from freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to finance the plan by introducing a marginal tax rate of up to 70 percent for the nation’s wealthiest people. Doing so would have dreadful effects on the very rich, Hannity said Tuesday in an at-times nonsensical rant on his radio program.
If wealthy Americans were taxed more ― or, in Hannity’s words, if their wealth were “confiscated” ― “rich people are not going to remodel their homes, they’re not going to build new homes,” he claimed."

But why should 70% of his remaining $26 million go toward Programs he doesn’t believe in, let alone toward schools that undercut his system of beliefs, and other expenditures and salaries that only stand to make him like this country less? Maybe he’d be fine with the tax rate if he believed in the sum of the taxation expenditures. Just sayin’...

It's really not 'owed' to anyone other than the person who 'earned' it. The implication that it's owed is one that negates the discussion and /or debate surrounding taxation as a whole, which is fine, excerpt that the entire point of the clip its debating that tax structure...Furthermore, if you think funds collected on taxation are redistributed to the "American People,' I'd recommend looking into the order of federal funds distributions from the Treasury. No, it's neither fun 'nor exciting, but at least it fills the gaps in supposition and other curious corners as to the function of government. I mean that politely too, not as some know it all smart as5.@rawrisiloveuindinify

So, are we saying that in his case making the additional 26mil over the 10mil, going home with 7.8mil (because you paid 18.2mil in taxes on that 26m) isnt crazy? currently he would pay about 10mil out of that same 26mil which doesnt seem to fair for everyone else? Why would anyone in his position not raise red flags on that? I dont make that much but that still seems crazy to take less than a third of what you worked for and earned.

    • Tremaine Hudson
      Tremaine Hudson 4 months ago

@James Francis again, if you linking to a part of the video that supports my entire original comment is your response then you were better off not commenting. In my example of someone making 36 mil, if you can show calculations on the 26 mil over 10 mil not resulting in 7.8 mil of post tax earnings then please do. you don't need words or a flashy comeback, just asking for simple math

    • James Francis
      James Francis 4 months ago

Tremaine Hudson Not much going on upstairs I see...🤦🏾‍♂️ I did explain by telling you where the information was in the video and by heading over to google to further help you out. There’s different ways of explaining something and it looks like you want me to do all the work for you. Understanding precisely how the marginal tax rate works and has worked in the past takes longer than I care to try to fully explain via a comment section to have somebody still not get it. So it’s always best to do your own research, as I’ve previously stated. And it’s interesting that you thought I was cute and edgy... Thanks!

    • Tremaine Hudson
      Tremaine Hudson 4 months ago

@Mary Nations The marginal tax rate still taxes the income up to 10 million at around 39% which is the disingenuous part of her explanation. You're right that 7.8mil is what is left from the 26mil over 10mil but the initial 10mil also will leave around 6.5 mil or so after taxes. All in all you would be pulling in about 14.3 mil on 36mil worth of income which is almost 1/3 of the money you worked for. This isnt to say 14.3mil isnt a lot of money but no one should be only bringing home 1/3rd of the money they worked for.

    • Tremaine Hudson
      Tremaine Hudson 4 months ago

@James Francis if you are going to make a comment to say something is wrong (which isn't) and are unable to articulate why it is wrong, you were better off not commenting at all. Trying to be edgy and cute may be your priority but the rest of us just want healthy dialogue

    • James Francis
      James Francis 4 months ago

Tremaine Hudson 00:20 start with Anna’s explanation at this time stamp and then see if you can keep up. Also, you can never be too friendly with google to gain a better understanding of something YOU don’t know about. That’s as much explaining as I’ll do since I also needed to do my own research to properly understand how the marginal tax rate would work/did work in the US during our greatness period of economic growth. Hope this helps!☺️

the regular tax would be at 37%, and i am sure she already knows that, if you think she doesn't look some of the other shows they've done on TYT, plus anything over 10mil is taxed at 70%, so if the guy makes 36mil, do the math, i am sure you can come with a nice round number, which can help many ppl, then multiply that by 18k (which are the richest people in US), and you get another egually beautiful number, and you get taxed straight across, without hitches, and he can do his deduction, which will cover his health insurance etc...

None the panelists or reporters addressed how you would stop a mass exodus (of the rich, paying the taxes) from occurring in any state where the tax rate is 70%...marginal or not. That is the strongest argument Hannity made. The parallel argument is the corporate tax rate. People on the left want to raise the corporate tax rate, which puts US businesses at even more of a disadvantage. People on the right view a lower corporate tax rate as a positive thing as it lowers the cost of doing business in America, and promotes job growth. The theory (and how it works in reality) is if you keep raising taxes and increasing the cost of doing business, or living somewhere, the business owner or consumer will find other alternatives. We all know he is being a drama queen for television when he cries about not having money to eat out...and lying.

Everyone thinks it’s fine to take other peoples money. I’m broke, but it’s NOT ok to take other peoples money. Stop spending more than we take in, reduce the debt, get rid of big gov. If 25% of gov is shut down, and 800,000 is only 25%, then gov is 3,200,000 people? Government is too large!

This segment is horrible and their reasoning is immoral. I don't understand how they justify putting this garbage out there. Take more money just because qnd say they didn't work for it but rather inherited it... everyone should be taxed the someone period, that would seem to me better than setting an arbitrary number and take vast sums beyond that.

    • Andrew Pearson
Andrew Pearson 5 months ago +4

Well i worked if Sean hannity makes 36 million a year, on AOC marginal tax suggestion at 60% he would then get just under 21 million a year. So he gets 21mill a year add to his 200 million net worth and you're telling me he can't eat out or get new cars. What immoral is your health care system. If a child from a low income family gets cancer or any serious illness they dead, they can't go to an emergency room for that. What's immoral is how American has corrupted capitalism, they are 100% right the rich make there money in the backs of low income workers. If you look back to the 60s where a ceo of a Company was making 20 times what an average employee made jump to today and they're are make 500 times want an average employee makes. What's immoral is drug companies increasing the drug prices on the same drug by 230% immoral is rejecting people from health insurance because of a pre existing condition. What's the most despicable thing of all, these corporations pay politicians to let them get away with campaign donations and its completely legal. What worse is they have convinced people on the right that is in their best interest. The fact I can pick up my phone call the doctors and get an appointment in a couple of day, emergency go to A dr on call, or something worse an ER, the fact that I'm on 8 different medication for asthma and chronic pain and I don't have to worry about payments or deductibles, I pay 20% tax off my pay each month covered . The majority of my country didn't even realise how bad America health care is for regular people. How can the riches country in the world take its people for fools. So you can be blinded by this or you can take your country back, and I'm not saying vote democrats, I'm saying go and find a politician that gives a damn, that will fight for you, that's not got to cave to corporate donors. Real people need to get in there a fix it, this is why both Democrats and Republican are scared of AOC because her and Bernie are the first 2 to call out the corruption the pay to play, i dont care if its a left wing or right wing find someone that works for you or run yourself

It is not just take more money because they didn't earn it, it's because that money do not come from nothing. They make more money not because they are smarter than u and me, it is because they got in a priviliged position probably before they were born or because they parents could give them all the opportunities to achieve that position. Basically what I'm saying is that if you take more money from the rich and invest it in education, the health system and creating new jobs what you are doing is reducing that income gap, and you will be investing for a better future for all citizens and not just for the the rich minority.

You know I like to watch both sides of the arguments so I can make an informed decision, but sometimes I find the scape goating on both sides just freaking crazy. This it's us verse them attitude towards the rich is ridiculous and promoted by a lot of myths. 80% of millinaires/billionaries are self made today, they didn't inherit it. These people already pay 40% of the taxes of the entire nation, why shouldn't they be annoyed that they're still attacked as not paying their fair share.

      Chris Glyde 5 months ago

@K Frost Aye, I used to be more left leaning, now I sit in the middle as a classical liberal. So we did the opposite switch. It's not propaganda, it's fact. Again your problem lies with big government which will always be corrupt. No way around it and giving government ever more reaching powers will only make it worse. But I suppose you can have fun with that.

    • Chris Glyde
      Chris Glyde 5 months ago

@Teedie McMauphin-Dop Hey man you're allowed to believe what ever you want, but you should also realize people don't have to condone your actions. If you want to vote to take other people's property away by all means do, but don't expect those people to take kindly to it. It's an attack on their property rights and mob rule. You want to blame the system, great government, but millionaries aren't government. If some millionaries and businesses have power to influence the government, then again your problem is government. Any government given so much power will always be corupt becuase they can sell that power to the highest bidder. AKA your corproations and some select few millionaries. That being said you can blame millionaires and businesses, but many businesses need to lobby to protect themselves from other businesses who are also lobbying against them. Again government power is your issue not millionaires.

    • K Frost
      K Frost 5 months ago +2

I used to think this way but decided to look past the propaganda that you are repeating. The very rich are not victims, they control the government and write the laws to their advantage.

Sean Hannity speaks exactly like Donald Trump, he’s learned well from his master. He’s always speaking hypothetically and on behalf of people. See (1:28) to (2:05) which was absolute bullshit coming straight out of Sean Hannity’s asshole. No rich person ever said that to him, it’s just something he made up out of thin air. Donald Trump does this more than anybody, currently speaking on the behalf of government employees during this shutdown...that the shutdown is totally worth creating a wall for them. I hate when people make up shit pretending that they are speaking on behalf of a large group of people.

Even if they got taxed at 70% on every dollar of the 10mil, that's still 3mil at the end. They can't go out to eat? 3mil with a standard 40 hour work week is about $1,442 an hour. Man, we were saying that under $15/hour is not a livable wage, but apparently, $1442/hour is not a livable wage. We're really screwed.

It's not nonsense. Without ppl working for you and enriching you you wouldn't make jack shi*. Unless you can do every ounce of work for yourself you did get rich on the backs of those who actually did the labor. Without those who actually do the work you wouldn't be wealthy unless you inherited it.
