Nets Expose Sixers Serious Flaws In Game 1

In a battle of game plans, Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson's direction allowed D'Angelo Russell, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Caris LeVert to control the action against the "more talented" Philadelphia 76ers. There's still a Ben Simmons problem, and they'd better figure out an adjustment soon.

The 76ers are doomed. They will not win this series at all. They may get swept honestly. Ben Simmons and jj reddick are liabilities on offense and defense. Jimmy butler will get frustrated quickly and begin to take over games alone. Ben Simmons need to prioritize his shooting in the off-season and every season until he is done with basket ball. This myth that you do not need to shoot to be a great play is like finding the yeti. People say it exists but still have not seen proof of it. The Sixers may fire Brett Brown after this season if they lose game 2 because its his job to fix this mess. The Nets are back again. Last time I was this excited for them was when Jason Kidd was their point guard. Their future is very bright and its great for the NBA.....

I think the Sixers won't make it to the Finals unless Brett Brown changes his coaching and they FULLY give Simmons the keys to the offense. Butler consumes a lot of the playmaking duties, and Brown has not adjusted to keep Simmons engaged. In my opinion, Butler has to go. He doesn't fit. Simmons needs to be their full time playmaker and then you will see even more out of Tobias Harris if he stays.

How do you join the NBA with no jumpshot as a point guard. More importantly what is he doing the whole time while training, an average guy would have a jumpshot by training a few hours a day.
By now I think it's a psychological barrier for him, if he keeps this up. That will be the defining reason he gets traded, if he don't learn, he will be a bench player. Worse they will do him like Melo, even tho Melo can buy you a basket with a jumpshot.

Embiid is playing hurt & Simmons had no real impact. Philly were really flat & I donโ€™t think the home fans booing helped them!
DeAngelo Russell shot poorly in the 1st half but the 76ers couldnโ€™t take advantage.
Mike Scottโ€™s defence was dreadful in this game - Nets players just blew straight past him all day like he was a statue!
Caris LeVert & Spencer Dinwiddie were awesome.
If Joe Harris had pulled up a few times and taken a mid range jumper rather than trying to drive all the way into the paint, then this game would have been over by halftime.

You forgot Ed Davis with 28 EFR, best on the Nets today, and Levert 2nd with 21EFR (and he didn't even start the 2nd half. Nets could have won this game by 20+.

    • Escapable Entropy
Escapable Entropy 2 months ago +1

@N Marbletoe Ed Davis always had massive potential but he was buried on the depth charts in Portland. The Nets acquiring him for essentially nothing was a huge acquisition. The only knock on Davis is his FT shooting and perimeter game. However, he knows his role and won't hurt you by trying to play outside of his abilities. I love glue guys like him who box out, play D, and clean up the glass on both sides. Remember when the Cavs won a chip Tristan Thompson did a lot of those things. Talentwise Ed Davis is not that different than Thompson but he does the same things without needing a 70-80 million dollar contract. He is an old school PF. The NBA needs more guys like that. This stretch 4, fad can sink a team in the playoffs.

    • Escapable Entropy
Escapable Entropy 2 months ago +1

@N Marbletoe Playoff games are often won by performances like this. I watch the Nets and I know they can find many ways to win. Consider this. D-Lo started 1-9 from the field. Allen was in foul trouble, and Harris didn't even get hot from the floor. Also note Atkinson made a big blunder by not starting Levert in the 2nd half and played Dudley way too much. If the Nets had a better coach they would have won this game by 20+ as I said. Ed Davis is an absolute monster on the glass, excellent defender and a smart player positionally. His impact cannot be overlooked. Guys who play their roles and don't miss shots or turn the ball over WIN playoff games.
