@Chris Corley outerspace, people on a ship, given a second chance to end in failure again, the ending was out of this world, the movie just builds an environment that is packed with clostrophobia fear and anxiety. even if you are a failure in life or successful in life, to be in that position so far away feom what you are use to is mind boggling no?

This was the absolute worst movie of 2019. Nothing made sense. One dimensional characters with no motivation. Horrible writing. Utter disregard for science. Why. Just utterly terrible.

  • Aubrey Dana

Did anyone at A24 read the script? I'm a fan of arthouse films, slow burns, and original filmmaking, but this was pretty awful, right down to the hair in the gate. Clearly written by someone who is not fluent in English. Like, at all. We get lines from a mad scientist (you heard that right) like, "My work is accomplished when perfection is achieved!" Who talks like this, save for characters in an Ed Wood movie? Bad dialogue, no on-screen chemistry, and really bad performances save for the redhead. (Will someone please tell Pattinson that brooding isn't acting?) And since when did not making sense become something to aspire to? How is this a taboo? You can't invest in a story if the story doesn't even bother to make sense within its own world. For the life of me, I cannot understand how anyone could compare this to 2001. No matter how weird Kubrick got, he never did it at the expense of a carefully considered story, set within a world you could believe. Here, the filmmaker couldn't care less about the story or the characters, or even checking the gate. It's all just fodder for her pretentious posturing, so conscious of its own attempt at being sublime, that posers are afraid to talk about it honestly, lest they piss off someone important who likely bankrolled this 2-hour black hole of time-wasted. It reveals more about the audience than the filmmaker. Reminds me of the hype when Moulon Rouge came out. Posers loved it. But is that one in your collection? Exactly. This one will be equally forgotten, faster. I'd give you spoilers, but why bother? The movie ripens at the 10-minute mark, then becomes rotten soon after. Then you realize it was spoiled from the minute someone called, "Action." I think Claire Denis should be directing the next Human Centipede movie. I think she could do something with it. How about The Human Centipede in Space? Are you listening, A24?

This imperative masterpiece(utilizing infinite parallels, hyper-symbolism and misdirection) will essentially and entirely transcend film. With cinema now seemingly trivialized, this devine gift/feat of tutelage heavily targets cinephiles yet offers a gateway of understanding to those inclined. Extending beyond the medium of film, it reaches out to gently take our hand, together navigating it's mysterious cycle. We take baby steps until we accelerate into a blackhole of revelation, exposing(and even whimsically employing) our subjugation but comforted by the illumination that may exist at the end of the tunnel.

Beyond the clouds and pass the moon
Until the stars feel the rushing forward
    Though you're standing still

This movie is pathetic. In the rape scene, the movie attempts to compare a womans (the doctor) attempt to create life (and feel validated by Robert) by stealing his sperm, to a woman being raped, in order to justify getting a guy pregnant without his consent... When men have to pay child support for 18 years, its the same equivalency in suffering as a woman's suffering from a rape experience. Hence, male rape.. If a woman wants to get pregnant, she allows it to happen, and if she doesnt want to get pregnant, she will use male or female contraceptives, or abbort it, period. So yes people, male rape does exist and is rampant in the us.

It's movie fiction, not true reality. Dibs' (Binoche) actions might be scientifically and ethically questionable -- but what she did in their most dire of human circumstances, might have saved Monte (Pattinson) and his only daughter from total abandonment in outer space. Dibs might have given these two characters a second chance to repair the ship, buy some time, or to be rescued -- instead of a slow certain death. Everybody else, died. โ˜•

I'm a science fiction fan, but this was one of the most depraved, POS films I've ever seen. Hateful characters, nonlinear story, super-graphic violence. Lots of murmuring or screaming. Some critics have called it "moving"; the only movement I felt was my gag reflex. Here's a film that tries to pass itself off as high art while it swirls around a toilet bowl. I stopped watching after a brutal hour of it. I want that hour back, Claire Denis.
