Question, can I use the recently released Ryzen 3 3200G to upgrade the Asus ROG Strix X470 to update bios to support the Gen 3 Ryzen 3900x? It’s a bit confusing because the Ryzen 3 3200G is a new chip yet it’s a Gen 2.

So if i wanted to go a little more budget, instead of the aio, in your opinion, do you think i would be able to go with two noctuo fans instead? Prolly gonna go with a ryzen 7 btw instead too.

Try dropping the voltage until the clock speed starts to drop and bring it back to the last good voltage and your temps will drop even more. I was idling at 40-50c on my r9 3900x before I did that and jumping up to 85c as soon as I would hit it with a load. I have a be quiet dark rock slim and this helped me drop temps down to mid 30s at idle and full load only ever made it up to 71c peak on one core. I do have a much bigger case with very good airflow but I expect you should see numbers pretty similar to that after you drop the voltage down.

Trying to make the smallest high power system is like seeing how long you can keep you crotch over an open flame.... 1) nobody cares. 2) It is pointless, serves NO purpose and does more harm then good in every way.
Micro systems are for people who think smaller is somehow making you cool, but in reality, it makes you a try hard/fail more, again, for no reason

I haven't seen this mentioned in videos yet but the 3900x has an ECO mode in the bios. you CAN set the 3900x to 65 watts in the bios and have a low power low heat part for micro systems. but honestly if you tune the 3900x it can run VERY COOL at full speed my 3900x runs 65c in prime 95 at under 100 watts getting a 3277 r15 score so these cpus are very impressive you just have to play with offset voltage to get these results for me I could go to -.106v offset to get these results beyond that performance regressed. but if you don't mind losing a little perf you can goto -.2v and it will run ice cold 100% stable zen 2 is incredible for how tunable it is if you don't mind sacrificing a little perf it can run at VERY LOW VOLTAGES

Yeah but you didn't use the specific AIO from Asetek (the 645LT) made for the Dan A4 case

  • CJRhoades
    CJRhoades Month ago

You might want to take a look at your liquid temps with that thing running full bore. Asetek says liquid temps above 60C will eventually damage the cooler and you might be getting close to that with 90C CPU temps.

Did you lower the voltage on the CPU? That is a big thing Jay noticed is all the Voltages are set really high on default for the new zen 2.
Maybe it was a specific bios thing but IDK. It is definitely worth double checking, you maybe able to drop 10 C of that temp if that is the case.

undervolt the 3900x and have it set hard at 4.1ghz,you only hit 4ghz anyway and your highest voltage was nearly 1.5v and you can easily reduce that, and have the temps alot lower

  • Ben James

Tinker with the CPU voltage because a lot of the 'out the box settings' are pushing way more voltage than needed to the CPU

Hummmm.... I was planning to try a 3700x/3800x in my newly acquired Nouvolo Steck. Maybe I can get away with a 3900X :::BIG GRIN:::
But I want to go air cooling and not sure a Big Shuriken 3 will cut it or hot compares to a 92mm AIO? My case can handle up to a 70mmm cooler height.
I have a pair of 80mm fans that run off a single USB port. That might be an option if you need to temporarily mount some fans to the outside.
