"Everything happens for a reason" -- and other lies I've loved | Kate Bowler

  • Published on Jul 2, 2019
  • In life's toughest moments, how do you go on living? Kate Bowler has been exploring this question ever since she was diagnosed with stage IV cancer at age 35. In a profound, heartbreaking and unexpectedly funny talk, she offers some answers -- challenging the idea that "everything happens for a reason" and sharing hard-won wisdom about how to make sense of the world after your life is suddenly, completely changed. "I believe that in the darkness, even there, there will be beauty and there will be love," she says.

Reasons are sWitchcraft for whodunit, somebody to blame, opposed to self knowing, I did it!
And most reasons are gleaned from the environment, the status quo, the latest fashion, in order to look like I fit in I have to buy into it for status... social pressure, cookie cutter???
Most reasons are not even our own. We like that we don't have to think too much!!! Why?
Maybe we don't know how to observe without evaluating? and its gets tedious! Too bad!

To summarize, I would say that it is just fate and there are no reasons why things happened. Life can be unpredictable.

I also hate when people say things happen for a reason but I do believe that it's an opportunity for us to learn and grow. Imagine if everything was God's plan, then we should forgive Hitler for his atrocities against humans. Just BS to me. Thank you.

This young woman really knows what many so-called older, wiser, woke, and so-called "mindful" people don't. They need to listen to this. And I think she is delivering a message few of us will truly understand. Go well Kate.

So you wanted to buy God and His blessings with your deeds. Sounds a lot like karma. Christianity is a heart job. Not a guarantee of having an easy life. It sounds like you are blessed, and getting back on track.

    الحمدلله علي نعمه الإسلام
في الإسلام اذا احب الله عبدا ابتلاه
فالابتلاء والصعوبات دليل علي حب الله للشخص لا لأنه فعل اشياء فظيعه يستحق العقاب عليها
Thanks god about blessing of Islam
In Islam if god love anyone he afflicts him so afflictions in Islam is a prove to God's loving not a reason because of bad things you have done
So messengers were have a great afflictions because they most people who god love them
Anyone want to know more about Islam just ask me and I'll do my best to answer you

Wonderful insights. How do you live with the idea
life is "somewhat" random? What philosophy seems to
fit the facts? One possibility is light-dark morality.

With the most absolute altruism and sincerity I say that you should look at either giving up,public, speaking or completely changing the way you cognitively and spiritually approach it. This, was a very emotional, uninspiring, cluster of of statements to not really bring home a point I've ever seen.
Anyone with disease or cancer needs to watch Dr. Sebi's videos on healing and nutriton. Immunotherapy and chemotherapy are NOT a safe treatment for anyone. You mean well, but you offered no answers. You just informed us you're indoctrinated and blindly taking outrageously dangerous top tier pharma.
