  • “The Lion King” remake brought the beloved 1994 animated classic into 2019 with a mix of CGI animation and live-action filming techniques. We talked to Elliot Newman of MPC Film about creating fur, building environments, and creating characters like Rafiki and Scar, as well as how cast members like Donald Glover, Billy Eichner, and Seth Rogen got to perform in an incredibly unique set-up.

    1. The movie sucks at making you love the characters unlike the original
    2. The animations and the whole visuals are amazing, but still all of it wont be enough to make a good true to the source movie

    Millions of hours of animation.
    1 million hours = 114 years.

This movie felt off and didn’t feel lively at all. As a computer graphics designer, I feel that they added too much detail without giving the characters hardly any facial expressions. It’s hard to read the characters, and they feel stiff. This is also a case of too much realism. The characters look so realistic and detailed that they look more real than real life, making the characters feel less real. If you were into animation you would understand this.

prove that technology doesn't equal good film. sometimes going back to traditional methods can be great.

Lion King: Dad dies, Simba loses out to his ousting uncle, Simba gets revenge and wins.
Black Panther: Dad dies, cousin wants control of the kingdom. BP gets revenge and wins. Couldn't help singing "Circle of Life" at the start.
Hamlet: Dad killed by uncle, denounces Hamlet, takes over the kingdom. Hamlet gets revenge and wins.
Overall: Twice Disney have ripped off Shakespeare.

Dumbo, Beauty ATB, Maleficent, Aladdin, Jungle Book = amazing remakes.
Lion King, Pete's Dragon (to date) = nightmarish, soul-less for kids + WTF for people young & older who saw the originals. "Oh, we (Disney) just can't wait to make cash!"

8790 years. This is why things are unfair. You can't just start your own animation studio and expect to compete with Disney. You have to work for Disney.

    • SockLock
      SockLock 15 days ago

A remake ruins NOTHING, it doesn't travel back in time and destroys the original, it doesn't literally force you to watch it, the original is still there for those who grew up with it and the remake will be there FOR A NEW GENERATION.

Okay, well. It's cool that technology has come that far, so we can a whole movie just from Computer animated animals (maybe humans too), but I (personally) think that the modern Lion King reminds me more of a documentary, than a Disney movie.
The characters barely show emotions, it all looks so real, but it's actually unnecessary, because the animation was on point and it just looks like, that Disney just throws all of the beautiful animations away, just to make some hyper realistic things out of it... and uses it for money...

It would be easier to just shoot the whole movie in live action. As a Kenyan, I couldn't get past the first 10mins of Lion King. I instantly noticed its all CGI and just fake/unreal for me to watch.

They should have made the eyes a bit bigger to add emotiinal content, its a trick and the people know its a trick but its still maintains the realism. I think....puff puff

If you think about it, the sad part is that, all of this animal "utopia" doesn't even exist anymore in Africa... We're exterminating all species. It's funny, and tragic, how we destroy something, and then spend millions to animate it and take it to the screens. Wish you a pleasant day
