Fierce competition between Russia and the US in the race to get the first man to the moon. The movie shows the consequences of the endeavor with the rapid speed of tragedies and dangerous actions needed to reach the goal quickly. We probably will never know the tragedies the Russians had incurred in their attempt.

Fake movie. Director Damien Chazelle refused to show real events, even as important as the American flag being planted on the moon. He chose a Canadian actor to play American Neil Armstrong, and the Canadian's version of Neil Armstrong is disputed by Air Force pilot Gen. Chuck Yeager: “That’s not the Neil Armstrong I knew.”

Srange that they would leave out the American flag in this movie. Its only the symbol of the nation that was responsible for putting the "fist man" on the moon!!!NO BIG DEAL!!!! To hell with Hollywood!! Wont be seeing this movie.

Do you know who's the real 'first man'? While I appreciate the effort that went into America's first successful manned Moon mission, I feel sad that people have forgotten Yuri Gagarin, the first man to be launched into outer space. Now, that needed some guts. Not many people know about his friend Vladimir Komarov either. Vladimir Komarov, on a prior mission, the Soyuz 1, discovered so many faults with the design and planning that he knew it was a sure way to die if launched. On his refusal, the second in command and his friend, Yuri would have been sent into space. So, in order to save his friend, he volunteered on the ill fated flight. He died during the crash landing. I wish somebody would make a movie about them!

Neil Armstrong and Apollo 11 are of course top of mind when we think about landing on the moon, but historians agree that the riskiest and most heroic mission by far was Apollo 8. Since Apollo 8 was the first manned mission of the Saturn V rocket, the original goal was simply a short flight in which the crew would orbit Earth and then come right home. But then the CIA got word that the Russians were planning on doing something big, and practically overnight (and only weeks before launch), they altered the mission to send the crew all the way to the moon. This was the first time any human beings had ever left low Earth orbit, the first time any humans saw the entirety of the Earth with their own eyes, and also the first test of many parts of the Saturn V. There was no room for error. If even one of the engine parts had failed, the astronauts would've overshot the moon, been stuck orbiting it forever, burned up in the atmosphere, or any one of a huge number of other disasters.
Hats off to Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and Bill Anders!

Trailer looks pretty good. It looks like the focus will be on Armstrong's life leading up to the historic moment. (50th Anniversary of the event next year) For all of you who want to see the Kubrick ending, watch Capricorn One.

I can't even imagine how it must have felt when they walked the Moon for the first time in human history. I mean, so many people before them were watching the sky, wondering what is on the Moon, legends, stories, myths and here we are. Human beings watching the Earth from there.

The Right Stuff (1983) was an amazing movie. I always thought it was such a shame that that movie wasn't more successful, it sucks that that movie bombed. Imagine if it the movie hadn't bombed and it actually did really well, imagine if they had done an interconnected NASA movie universe. The Right Stuff was about the first American astronauts in space (among other things of course) Apollo 13 was about. . . Duh Apollo 13, it would've been cool if they had done the movies in chronological order and had them be connected, like if a NASA person that was in the Mercury program was also in the Apollo program the person is played by the same actor. The Right Stuff kicks it off, then in the second or third movie is this one where we see the first moon landing then we go to Apollo 13.

If I drive *moon shuttle* for you, you get your giant step for humanity. You tell me where we start, where we're going, where we're landing afterwards. I give you five minutes when we get there. Anything happens in that five minutes and I'm yours. No matter what. Anything a minute on either side of that and you're on your own. I don't sit in while you're running it down. I don't carry a camera.
    I STEP.

why does this have such a horror-esque dark tone to it, even the kid asking "will u be back" has that horror vibe to it. Shouldn't it be about mans aspirations, hopes and optimism. i just dont get why it portrays this like they are at war, atleast shouldn't they be excited, these are scientists who have been finally given the opportunity to actually try out theories they obsess and dream about so why's everyone acting like demargogon is about to crawl up their butthole.
