Adam Savage Examines the Blade Runner 2049 Blasters!

  • Published on Oct 6, 2017
  • Adam Savage visited the set of Blade Runner 2049 during its production last year, and one of the first things he had to do was visit the props department. There, prop master Doug Harlocker shows Adam the many blaster props made for the film, including replicas of Deckard's iconic pistol!

All of the 2049 BR guns are fired cgi. Not wise to let actors even have blank firing guns. Many reasonable versions of the new design are available out of the Ukraine 3D printed for under fifty bucks, but if you must have one, be sure it’s made with ABS plastic. You’ll still have cleanup work and detail painting to do, and add lead rod to give it weight.

look so shit and unimaginative compared to the original blaster, they should have come up with a better design, like the original, ridley scott was presented with a cliche scifi design, so he told the designers to go down the local gun shop and get some inspiration from a combination of real guns, but producing something unique and very functional looking, but keeping that scifi aesthetic with the blaster, however this new blaster is just a cliche scifi design to me... Im just being a blade runner blaster fanatic

Not one close up of the blaster, no demonstration of functions of moving parts (I really wanted to know how the bolt action lever worked) WAY TO MAKE SOMETHING INTERESTING, BORING.

I really liked the new blade runner, but boy do i just not like the new gun. It is just so damn ugly. I do however like Luv's gun, it had a much less lazy sci fi design to it and i think looked great.

Anyone have an idea where you can find a good cast replica of K’s blaster? All the replicas I’ve found are either 3D printed, or white plastic casts that I wouldn’t feel comfortable painting. And I can’t help but wonder how far away we are from making metal versions with the electromagnets so the action can actually move?

I can understand other criticisms, but saying this doesn't fit with the universe is stupid, it's 30 god damned years later, of course you're not gonna get the same classic revolver style.
Plus the way I see it deckard's is a colt revolver and K's is a glock. K having a shiny sharpshooter wouldn't make sense. he's supposed to be a machine, not a human that cares about a shiny, pretty gun; the unexceptional, blocky, mass-produced feel of his pistol represents that.

The new ones are all wrong. (objectively and empirically wrong)
If you look at the winchester repeating rifle, the colt45, the 1911 45 auto, even the hulking desert eagle...
They all have soft smooth rounded edges for a very important reason:
It is VITAL for them to slide out of the holster and PAST various articles of clothing WITHOUT SNAGGING.
That's the genius of the original BladeRunner blaster. I "looked" like a real firearm. The
The new ones - with their rectilinear "mecha" bits... totally totally wrong.
