The Rams-Titans Super Bowl had one of the greatest endings ever, and it needs a deep rewind

  • Published on Jan 15, 2019
  • It’s January 30th, the year 2000. We’re at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta for Super Bowl 34 where the Tennessee Titans and St Louis Rams have just 6 seconds separating them from history. With the ball at the ten, down 7, and no timeouts remaining, the Titans have one last chance to stay alive. Otherwise, this Rams team that came from nowhere will be going home champions.
No matter what happens, one of these franchises will win their first Super Bowl tonight. And once that’s the case - everything that led us to this moment will be overshadowed. But in order to fully appreciate what’s to come, let’s rewind.

I like to think that there's and alternate universe where he makes the touchdown, but the clock went to 0, so the final score was 22-23

Ah yes, the documented record of the first and last Super Bowl the Rams will ever win. Maybe the Browns will move to St. Louis and then the Rams can return to Cleveland someday - once the league figures out that football cannot work in LA.

Another interesting aspect of this final play was that the Rams had a personnel mix-up and were actually short a man on defense. Can you imagine how much of a deal would have been made of that if Dyson had slipped the tackle?

There's some dark cosmic trivia to this game as well; the Rams won their only Super Bowl title against Jeff Fisher who would never win or even reach another Super Bowl, and that same half-assed Elvis impersonator/quarterback anti-whisperer would later be hired and retained for year after mediocre year by Rams owner Stan Kroenke as he tanked the franchise to poison the well and soften up the ground for his shameless cash grab back to Los Angeles.

Thank the Lord for Mike Jones, because if it weren't for him, St. Louis Rams fans would have not only have the battery-acid taste of somehow losing the easiest Super Bowl matchup in history two years after this, but also one of the greatest choke jobs in pre-Falcons Super Bowl history if they hadn't held onto this one. The Greatest Show on Turf should have cruised to two easy Super Bowl titles in three years, but they were very close to getting skunked altogether.
