Same I don't any of that stuff and it ain't because of minimalist. I just am not the type to really enjoy it and it don't make me feel fulfilled at the end of the day. I can't live to watch TV & I just felt or rather saw its pointless way to live. Education uses is about the only thing that's worth it, but so can books or now a days online. TV isn't necessary anymore for a many reasons. Some more personal to who I am as a person some less so. The music yeah I play outside headphones, but in a considerate volume. I don't care what tastes they like or not I will listen to mine out loud if I want, but of course at a considerate level, but never will a person stop me from doing what I want to. I can't stand ac. It just feels so wrong. I am way more comfortable with natural air over my body not the cold stuff. I mean I just left winter I don't want to be under ac its uncomfortable. I never liked coffee either. I have never own a maker because of that. I do have an iron but I sew so its necessary equipment for taking care of my clothes. Being minimalist doesn't mean you give up what you like to fit a mold. Keep what you do love and relevant to life you live. None of this is weird. Others just are not living as aware they just go with what they think should be like not who they know they are and thats likely because they have yet to really know themselves.

My toaster went out. I did not want to buy another one. For about a year we were just using a skillet to toast bread and heat up pop tarts but my family insisted. I eventually caved, and got a toaster.

These tips are great. And thank you so, so much for being considerate of your neighbors! :)) The world needs more people like you. PS I never had a TV, and growing up, I thought it was the worst, but now I'm soooo glad my parents did that, because I spent all that time reading and playing outside instead. :) I'm grown up and have lived on my own now, and have still never bought a TV and don't plan to. :) You're not crazy - you're smart!

How do you upload your videos if you don’t have internet? I know with data you can but internet would be cheaper than using all your data in your phone. At least here in Canada.
I’m thinking of moving out hopefully in the next 6 months, so right now saving and paying all my heavy bills and I will be taking the minimalist route however; a tv is a necessity for me Lol. Thank you making this videos it’s really inspiring ❤️

No TV for at least 5 years. But I cant go with out internet or at least a hot spot device. I would never ever give for a iphone. I think they are way over priced. $50 cheap smart phone and $50-$75 for a refurb mini laptop gets the job done just fine for me plus the mini laptop screen is much bigger than the little screen on a phone. I dont like giving money to over priced items like a iphone while the corporate heads have several vacation spots and fancy cars. If I bought a iphone and later on fell short for my rent or electric bill, good luck asking APPLE/IPHONE for a little help. So why on earth support them with their extremely over priced phone? Just doesnt make sense to me. I also ride a 50cc scooter. No more auto insurance, tags, registration or parking meters LOL

A lot of comments saying how this style of living is normal in their country/culture, like what she’s doing means nothing. Imagine yourself doing something against the grain for your culture and wanting to share your experience with people; that’s what this is about. In American culture we are straight into consumerism and people have things they use one time or not at all and keep it FOREVER! All while encouraging each other to BUY BUY BUY, with our “keeping up with the Jones’’ mentality. Maybe people from those cultures where it isn’t like that can shed some light and help people who are interested in the lifestyle rather than riding on your high horse.

Hi Kyra, love your attitude. I have a question about your YouTubing and use of technology. Are you filming your videos on your phone? How do you then upload, etc without internet? Doesn’t your phone bill go up for use of data?

    • thisisveryannoying
      thisisveryannoying 6 months ago

Thank you! This sounds good. I live in the UK and my phone bill plus house wi-fi amount to about 70 US dollars together. So, would not be much saving there for me. But the quality of your videos is very good, it just show that one does not really need app that filming equipment many youtubers find essential.

I also don’t have any of those things plus a car and a computer.
    I live alone too!
I also don’t do sponges either I just keep a scrubby in the free dishwasher that came with my place and it rewashes itself every time. I also don’t buy liquid dish washer soap I just immediately put the dishes into the washer and keep everything clean.
I wash the floor with vinegar and use baking soda often.
Oh I don’t have a desk either. But I do have a round table. I live in a studio. It’s tiny. It’s all white too!
I think we naturally have a lot in common!

I feel being minimalist is not really about the target to live out of a backpack. Its more like stuff you don't need, live with minimal things which you need in your daily life depending on different people who have different needs. In the end health is very important so gym membership is completely understandable. Hats off to you for not needing an AC. I would definitely need that haha.

I could totally live without a TV. We don't have Internet or cable so I rarely watch it but my husband always has it on because he likes the background noise. I use a welfare type program for low income families so that my electric bill stays low. It's around $10 a month but without that program we were drowning. Anyway, I could never go without AC. Way too hot. I wish I could be a minimalist but it's just not in me. I love shopping. Buying things makes me happy. I love decor and think a home without that sort of thing looks boring, empty, unlived in, and not very homey. I am working on a capsule wardrobe though. I don't own much stuff and I don't wear a lot of it so I'm going to declutter soon.

Eh. No decor doesn't work for me.
I have a clock my Opa carved, and a clock my dad made for me out of wood from our yard.
I have a beautiful carving of the Hawaiian flower that I bought on my trip to Hawaii (locally made, so it's an actual souvenir, not something imported for a gift shop) on my wall and some photos of friends, family, and one of a beloved pet I had from age five-21. I also have the odd stone carved animals ( beautiful beluga whale for example) from day trips with friends.
Adds slightly more effort when dusting but it's well worth it. I think it's okay to get some happiness out of things, it's when your life is defined by things that it's a problem.

I feel like my main goal is to live in an area where I can go without a car. I hate watching VAST amounts of money disappear into insurance and gas and cars don't even hold their value. The longer you have them the less money you get back :/
To be in an area where I can either walk or ride my bike everywhere (or walk to a bus even) would be wonderful. Healthier for you for one thing and it saves an obscene amount of money.
