  • Get yourself some NEW Theory Wear!! ►
This year we are getting a seemingly brand new take on the classic Batman villain, the Joker. This version stars Joaquin Phoenix as a failed comedian named Arthur Fleck - a new name for the old character. People are saying it's a whole new origin story for the Joker and I think that's true... but maybe not in the way most people are thinking. I think this Joker is not actually REAL! What do I mean? You're about to find out!

They did lie to us. We expected a shy person struggling with mental illness imagining himself to be a confident killer. We got a confident killer imagining himself to be a shy person struggling with mental illness. That's what the whole ending was about.

I had high hopes for The Boys, but as nearly everything these god forsaken days.. it completely relies on sex and what not.
I tried my best to watch it, but i absolutely hate it when people try to cater to everyone with as broad of a spectrum of effects to entertain. It is dirt cheap and that is really sad to say, since i always wanted more like Watchmen or what The Boys tries to be.
Watched the second episode, but as always.. sex sex sex sex.
So i stopped. The only way i accept sex in a series or a movie is if it is really relevant to the "plot".
But in there it is just there.

Fact, the actor for Joker actually has PTSD, after watching his brother get shot for no reason. He's literally mental, so the role suits him.

*SPOILER* Hold up @The Film Theorists Arthur Fleck was NOT blood-related to his mother. If you watched the movie, she adopted him to convince batman's father that she had a child by him. Tsk tsk tsk!

Im sorry but at 5:30 i just started crying. People often misunderstand this illness. My own mother has it it has caused her to miss my childhood. If she was off her medication she was basically insane sometimes in a daze leaving me alone in crowded areas(age 1) when she did take her medication she’d only been seen sleeping. I know this is more like a rant but this illness is worse than it seems. Just to add something that i think needs awareness is the dutch health system.... because because of them she’ll never recover.....because they let her smoke w**d and even worse things i wont name. Just wanted to say that this illness can be devastating to a person but also the ones around them....and i can speak from experience.....i didn’t have a childhood because of it.

The reason his handwriting changes is because in the beginning of the movie, when he is Arthur Fleck, he writes with his right hand. But as the movie goes on and Arthur begins to die and Joker begins to flourish, he begins to write with his left hand (everything about Arthur has to change.....aka "Everything has to go" as the sign in the very first scene suggests). Even the way he dances, when he is Arthur, it's very rigid and jerky. But when he is becoming Joker, his dancing becomes more fluid and confident as he becomes more comfortable with being the Joker.

That doesn't make sense though, because if he was actually hallucinating the whole mob thing, Bruce Wayne's parents wouldn't be killed... Which is untrue. Bruce Wayne's origin story did involve his parents being killed

  • HSandrw

I don't think he imagined the riots. You were right to say that Arthur didn't engineer the protests, evidently he killed the rich guys because they attacked him and the people believed they where murderer for being rich. Also, in the talk show he says he doesn't believe in anything. In short he didn't light the fight for political reason but eventually everything is political.

"People expect you to behave like you don't." That's very true. From illnesses like schizophrenia to things like dyslexia. I have ADHD, and one of the symptoms of that illness is short term memory problems, I have to ask about things I just heard. And no matter what I say it always makes people angry. They always think I'm not listening or don't care. I am listening and I do care, but I can't behave like them.

Doesn’t anyone remember the first scene with the counsellor where they reference joker being in the some mental asylum and flashes back to him banging his head on the glass of door? Does that mean that the movie started in the last scene or that it was all fake? Where can i find someone talk about this?

Only movie I've been to see twice. First time I thought wow how many in the cinema would of got this? I had confused ideas about the movie that night but felt relatable.
I took my brother tonight who has Paranoia Schizophrenia, and he said I get this. He was in psychosis as soon as he wasn't refered to a doctor to stay on his medication. Without reading the comic books and not knowing Joker history, I loved it and think it's a beautiful master piece about living with mental illness and people's feelings about the community's we all live in today and especially online world, with all the bullying and negativity of man kind. That Oscar award is coming I'm sure of it.

The fake scenes were deliberately revealed in the movie. Everything else actually happened. Joaquin just said in an interview that this is that actual Joker (you know the batman fighting joker) origin story. I get people like the film a lot, I do too.... but man are people really trying to theorize the shortcomings of this film.

One thing that confuses me is how in the riots near the end, people who support the joker were able to recognize him and I don’t really see why. How did they know who he was and what he looked like? How did they know that he killed the guys on the train? That doesn’t make sense to me but maybe I just missed something idk

I think that most of the events of the movie did happen, but happened in ways that were not portrayed, essentially in this movie he isn't a leader of a rebellion, he is just a single man in a crowd preforming acts of terrorism, but remaining hidden until he gets on the show at the end, at which point he does kill the comic, but with no punchline, he just pulls the trigger, and imagines telling the joke.
