Consumer Reports car reviews are too random and forget that cars are any different then a washing machine. Look at the related best cars, generally very boring.

Most of these complaints are just subjective, especially the poor MPG figures. The kinds of people that buy luxury vehicles (especially the Escalade) don't care about gas mileage.

Doing an oil change on a Fiat 500 sucks just as much as the car. The cartridge oil filter is in such a horrible spot on the side of the engine that you can barely get it with the most flexible tools possible. You twist the lid open and get it from the top, but I can't remove the cartridge lid from the tiny engine compartment without having to drag it around the compartment to find an area that I can pull it out of! I can't just leave it in inside the engine compartment because the lid contains the filter and O-ring, which both get replaced. Do technicians a favor and not buy this pile of Italian dung.

totally obsolete review: you just criticise FCA products based on manufacturer's historical low ratings and your quick and dirty poor testers impressions but FCA had the biggest ranking improvment: ten positions..in 2017 . For instance you critisize the shifter of the Ghibli because the (german) shifter has a trigger with a small time delay to avoid false shifting and manoeuvers to avoid this stupid vision we all seen of AMG's and AUDI's having pushed the walls of parkings near the top floors. You must a) use and get used to use the trigger of the shifter b) get the latest upgrade done early 2017 which allows for slightly faster shifting into reverse. Anyway while driving you do not use R pos. so your remark is a very poor item. Then for reliability and service, both Maserati and my local Ferrari dealer treats their swiss customers extremly well. Absolutly zero defects, 100% faultless, the car was fully tested ~100 miles before reception, one good service , a key batt. replacement cheaper than batt. retail price and only 3 smalls upgrades in 3 years of use, with the car returned each time fully cleaned, polished glossy and immaculate..i cannot complain...andi just wait for the next recall of this excellent product follow up !!!. do I regret the lack of electronic garbage, radar front camera etc of the early versions of the Ghibli? not at all ! The car is a real driver's car and the exhausted front tyres have noticed it.. but Pzero should do slightly better than original Dunlops R&T as per the Maranello boys. preserving front tyres must realy the key cutomer feature of those new rear wheels steering by Porsche Renault etc...wearing rubber evently on the 4 wheels. I have also a fully loaded Wolksburg hothatch to struggle with erratic and faulty sensors dealer refuse to change because better ones are coming... brake fluids and haldex oil to replace (after analysis) at my own cost because initial factory fluids were bad (not a problem with very similar Audi with same Haldex and brakes by the way) and have also another bavarian roadster which need a weekly ECU reboot in average to unlock windows or roof or windshields wipers or radio or all of them together ..etc...

It's pretty well known that Maserati is a terrible modern brand seeing as it's housed together with Fiat and Chrysler. And I don't mean terrible luxury brand, it's just bad for any brand so why anyone would defend the Ghibli is beyond me unless you bought one a couple years old for a third of the price and plan to trade it in soon.
As the Toyota, they go the extra mile to be perceived as the most reliable even so far as to deny issues with their cars. Generally Toyota interiors are disappointing and the exteriors are just ok. Their selling point is reliability but really I think it should be cheap repairs. That just sounds a lot less nice.

This list does not change much year to year. Maserati is new. Toyota is new. Most of the others are repeats from 2016 and 2015. Shows how slowly the industry moves. People love to criticize CU, but the fact is, this is all based on survey data. People may disagree, but the surveys don't lie (and for the most part, are pretty accurate unless a car company undergoes a six sigma review on a car model - then you might see a jump in the reliability factor one year to the next).

Manufacturers you always see on these bottom of the shit pile list: Mitsubishi, Chrysler (Dodge), lately Nissan. Not sure how Mitsubishi stays in business, certainly not sales in the US, probably sales to developing world. Chrysler (Dodge) is a favorite among the "low end class". It remains to see how Hyundai and Kia have reliable cars over the next decade, they seem to get better and better and back them up with a long term warranty.

If the Dodge Journey is so bad, as Consumer Reports claims, then why are there thousands of these SUV's on the road today? Most of them have many trouble free miles on the odometer. What other medium SUV can you buy brand new for around $15,000 fully loaded? (4 cylinder model - about $2,000 more for the V-6.) If this Consumer Watchdog group wants to interview owners of these SUV's that don't subscribe to their magazine, then I believe this vehicle would be rated much higher. If you have a family that wants an SUV that won't cost 30-40,000 dollars, then drive one of these and talk to owners of this SUV. You may just find what you need at a cost that won't break your bank account.

Wish i got any of those mpg she listed. Shes acting like a full sized suv with a v8 is going to get 30mpg. And a higher horsepower car getting 19mpg or even 16 is awesome, you dont buy a sports car or truck/full size suv for mpg

  • eurosonly
    eurosonly 6 months ago

The bottom line is no car is perfect regardless of generation. Some just have more cost cutting methods which translate into poor design and comfort and reliability issues. That's not to say that expensive cars do not have these issues either though. Just something to keep in mind for the buyer next time they get all excited about a really cheap deal. If it's too good to be true it probably is.

I'm not sure why the Mitsubishi mirage is on here. I've owned mine for a while and I love it. I get well over the mpg estimates. I usually average around 55-58 with mostly highway and a bit of city driving with some pretty steep hills in between. I got the car for $9,000 and it comes with an awesome warranty. The car has been easy to maintain and it saves me a ton of money. It's not a 'fast' car with tons of unnecessary horsepower behind it to drag down fuel economy significantly. Its a light car with a 3 cylinder that has more than enough power to get going at interstate speeds and stay at it. I didn't buy a car for this cheap expecting it to go 0-60 in 4 seconds. I didn't buy a car this cheap expecting any amazing extra and unnecessary features. For fucks sake it has more than enough of what I need. I have power windows, automatic climate control, power mirrors and a bunch of other nice features that you honestly couldn't find on a lot of new cars without paying extra. Most gas powered cars that are thousands of dollars more than the the mirage don't get even close to the fuel economy and reliability of it nor do they get any of the features that are standard even with the base model of the mirage. Reviews like this are a bunch of bullshit because no one I know who owns the mirage has any of the problems all these reviews talk about and the same goes with personal owner reviews of the car. Many personal owners love this car but for some reason professional reviewers always talk shit about it and I really don't understand why. Is Mitsubishi not paying the reviewers enough? Or perhaps it's just the American mentality that you have to buy an expensive ass vehicle with shit fuel economy because it's engine is too overpowered for the needs to get the vehicle going at more than ample speeds.
