GotG3 should have Drax leave the team early on. Thanos was defeated in A4, they come across some society that was decimated by Thanos, Drax stays to protect them or something. The team has a nice goodbye and the story moves on. Intro Moondragon or Angela to replace him on the team.

our cuck culture is going to crash down when we all realize the shit we are watching is completely boring. They are feeding us bland garbage over and over and over . . . James Gunn at least had some cool shit in his movies. The stuff was original. Him being gone is just another creative person thrown under the bus and now the Guardians movies going forward are going to be just like the rest of the lame fucking superhero movies out there. Love the fact that literally EVERYTHING is starting to use the same lame ass Marvel style humor too. so now our Star Wars movies are going to be bland shit too. Thanks Disney for your lack of creativity and balls. You're the bane of the movie industry.

Presumably Drax (Dave) is in Infinity War 2. That can be it. No need for Guardians 3. Disney made a costly knee-jerk decision, supported by Trumpy jerks. Recasting would alienate fans.

No, they are paying Gunn for the script. Gunn may end up asking the cast to make the last one and clear the path foe them to fulfill Gunn’s vision, plus, it can’t hurt Gunn’s relationship with Disney and it might even up his value to other studios.

  • Michael Schaub
    Michael Schaub 3 months ago

No John, let me help you out with this one: I want to be done with Disney as well. I'm sick of how they treated Gunn, as well as the disjointed mess of Star Wars movies. BUT... I have spent lots and lots of hours on these Marvel and Star Wars movies, and I at least want to see the conclusion of the main stories before I move on. I no longer wish to devote/invest my time to that company, BUT... I at least owe it to myself to see the Infinity War story and the SW sequel trilogy finish out. I want to see the end of the Skywalker story, and the defeat of Thanos/victory of the Avengers. Then, since most stories will be a jumping-on point, I no longer feel like I have an unfinished story. It would be a different situation if we were talking about a new Star Wars saga, or a new Marvel movie that starts a new story. But we are talking about concluding chapters here. It's like reading 999 pages of a book and deciding to quit before reading the final, 1,000th page. It's just stupid. I've been disgusted with some bad stories before, but when I invest tons of time into them and there's just a bit left to follow to finish them out, I'll do it to at least get the full picture.

    • Michael Schaub
      Michael Schaub 3 months ago

EP9 and Avengers 4 are PERFECT exit points for those of us that wish to stop feeding the giant. We can watch these films to satisfy our need to conclude the stories we've invested so much time into, and then we can leave afterwards to satisfy our wish to move on. Not to mention the fact that, narratively speaking, for ME the Start Wars movies are about the Skywalkers. I really don't give a shit about anything else. Now that I'm being told that Ep9 is the final Skywalker saga film, I no longer have a reason to care about further movies, and I don't have to follow your condescending rules about watching/not watching these films. "Be careful about that..." is it hard to see us from that mountaintop you're judging from?

Maybe it's just me, but I think it's kinda obvious that Disney is waiting to announce Bradley Cooper as the director for GoTG Vol. 3. He did an awesome job of directing "A Star Is Born" and now that TIFF has arrived and people have seen the film, I wouldn't be surprised if after some good positive PR about Bradley Cooper, his recent film and directing skills, etc.- then Disney will announce him as the director for Vol. 3 of GoTG. It honestly would make a lot of sense and people would be less 'up in arms' about it. James Gunn is not coming back for GoTG3 no matter what ANYONE says and if Taika Waititi doesn't direct it (which seems more and more likely that he will not), then it's prob gonna go to Bradley Cooper- IMHO. People need to start thinking of Cooper as a director and not just an actor and this is exactly what Bradley Cooper wants. Now, with "A Star Is Born" getting praise and "GoTG3" possibly being given to Cooper, it could be exactly what he needs and what Disney needs. It'll be mutually beneficial plus maybe Disney can save a lil' $$$ by offering Cooper the directing gig instead of a more established director.

Chances are high that Thanos dies in "Avengers 4". Ronan is dead, and Thanos is dead. Drax decides to retire between "Avengers 4" and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2". Problem solved. No need for reshooting "Avengers 4" to explain his absence. No need to recast. You just write him out of "Guardians Vol. 2" and focus on Adam Warlock taking his place. The end.

In the comics Drax started out looking completely different and looked that way for decades, then in the 'Annihilation' storyline he died and was brought back to life in a completely different body and that's the Drax we have today. The MCU could just do it the opposite way around. Have him die and come back in a new body that looks like the classic Drax from the comics with a new actor. Comic accurate solution.

    • Jeshurun Abinadab
      Jeshurun Abinadab 3 months ago

Comic accurate solution, but whatever they end up doing with Drax is going to pull people completely out of the film for a moment when they first see whatever it is onscreen because it will be glaringly obvious that whichever direction his story arc takes going forward is a reaction to real world drama.

Unpopular opinion I know, how about just not doing a new Guardians film. 2 was a massive step down from 1 and with the probable acquisition of the Fox owned characters, they will be more looked forward too anyway. With Guardians 3 being delayed/postponed or whatever it won’t be coming till 2020, the same time we could potentially get new X-Men films. Also, X-Men > Guardians.

The way to minimise damage at this point isn't to rehire James Gunn, but to "fire" Alan Horn (call it firing but really just retire him with a golden parachute). That might even appease Dave. The guy is old, probably senile and made a horrible kneejerk reaction with far reaching consequences, anyone else that made a decision that bad would have been fired.

I think they should just vamp the script of Guardians 3 so that something happens to Drax early on where it seems like he is probably gone for good and use that as a jumping board for the introduction of Moondragon with an emotional arc from the get go. Then based off of that it give Marvel time to recast for a future film if they decide to go on or just leave his character lost for good.

I won't say golden age but we often know when we are in a great era when we are in it. It's when many pieces of art are released all around the same time, they do well with the public and and are considered great pieces.
The early 90s alt rock scene. The mid 90s hip hop scene. The 70s film era. The latest 2000s early 2010s cable television scene.
History can look back and bring up or knock down these eras but we all know when they exist when we live in it.
And I wouldn't call this era the golden age of comic book films. The films, stories, and impact aren't good enough or big enough. It may have been on the verge after Avengers and Winter Soldier cane out but it's been stagnant since. And the best of the comic book films is still widely regarded as Nolan's trilogy and they came out before the era started. And when you adjust for inflation it's right up there as the biggest of the films popularity wise. Ledger's Joker certainly had a bigger cultural impact than any comic book film since.
That's the problem with this current era. Nothing memorable. We watch the films. We enjoy them. Then we forget them. Give me one quote from an MCU film that anyone recites often. Hum me one piece of music or sing me one song from a film that wasn't already a hit before the film. It's vanilla, cookie cutter, formulaic mediocrity.
No artists will be looking back studying this era to create a future one. It's completely commercial driven.
And people need to stop bring up Logan. I challenge anyone to watch Outlaw Josey Wales then watch Unforgiven and then try anyone sit through Logan after. The cartoony nature of the film really stands out after that.

No "A list actor" is needed for the role of Drax nor would it be sought after. He's a supporting character in an ensemble film.
Furthermore, I don't think there's anything wrong with Bautista wanting out. He has principles and he's standing by them. Disney was wrong for doing Gunn like that and frankly they're only standing by that dumb decision to save face.

John - to be fair, they are currently doing reshoots and some other extra filming for Avengers 4. so if they want to make changes, this is the time to do it. BUT, it may not be worth making sudden changes, etc.
Also, the hiring Gunn thing should be based on money. what horn said doesnt matter, nor is the group of ppl that dont want him back, IF the money Gunn brings in and the share price growth would be worth it. I dont think gunn is worth that much BUT no way Horn is either. he's not some legendary exec like bill gates, Steve Jobs, Zuckerberg, etc. he hasn't changed the world the way those other billionaire execs have. If they think gunn rehiring would cause the stocks to rise wwith the new movie? that is what you do. If you would lose some and gain others and it would be even, then you compare to if you would lose any value by not rehiring.
Right now, as long as they still do a GotG3 and it makes 800 million+ it doesnt matter BUT if they do it and it fails and the stocks drop, then the shareholders should be furious if its believed that Horn caused that by his snap decision. Its about the share price and always should be.
