Hey Dave, when you get the new Razer Blade through, could you check if it allows charging via the thunderbolt/usb-c port?
I'm currently running a XPS 15 which does allow this (with an Inateck 60W USB-C PD wall plug), and it's so clutch to just carry a single, light USB-C charger when you're moving around a lot.

I'm planning on getting a Dell Inspiron 7577 next month. Does anyone think I should wait it out for a budget gaming laptop with better specs to come out later this year? Also will these laptops offer significantly better performance compared to the 7577? It'll be great if you also let me know how long I'll have to wait, because I've been waiting to get into the current generation of games for quite some time. Feeling a little impatient lately. Thanks for the help :)

Thank you for video,Dave Lee. But I have a question. I have hard decision in buying gaming laptop. So do I need to wait decreasing price of laptops? Because new laptops I think is coming soon... In 2k18 was CryptoHype and after this I think , prices of CPU, videocard, processor will decrease...I have look to one gaming laptop. It's Dell Inspiron 7577(1060 GTX, 16GB, intel i7-7700HQ). But price in my country so high for this laptop(>1000$). I saw other laptops of Asus( GL502vs and GL502vm). They have problem with cooling and I hate this(p.s : right now I have HP laptop which have problems with cooling). So anyone can help to choose : Wait for good sales and laptops OR buy Dell Inspiron 7577 or another variants? Sorry for my bad English, thanks!)

The technology in games to fully utilize the RTX cards (IE real-time raytracing) won't actively be in games for like another 5 years. If you wanna go all out and spend the money on them, or if you work in 3D then they'll actually be worth the money. For most people (mainly gamers) it'd be like buying a McLaren P1 and never taking it to the track, let alone on the highway.

First of all, $800 or even $1000 for a 2060? lol ain't gonna happen anytime soon. Second, you showed MASSIVE performance difference between the 10 series and the new rtx cards but then you say it'll be 2-3 years for a big increase in performance? Uh did you watch your own video? lol.

Thank you so much for this, its been a bad Christmas for me this year. My parents took my 300 dollars and I expected them to surprise me with a gaming laptop, I was so excited because ive been dreaming to have a gaming laptop since I was like 6th grade ( im 9th grade currently). So its been a week Christmas was done I asked them after a day or two, then they said. Ive have to wait yet another year to buy a gaming laptop. I took the money from them with a loud voice but im not mad, just disappointed. Then they yelled at me, I told them I wished for a gaming laptop since I was grade 6. and yeah. A bad Christmas indeed. Merry Christmas to everyone and have a happy new year (:

Damn that sucks. But look at the bright side, the last generation laptops' prices are going to drop significantly this new year. These new laptops are going to be very expensive due to the costly and new cpus and GPUs coming out in 2019. Save up and wait until this next holiday season to snatch a gaming laptop.

Was thinking of buying a new laptop to replace my Alienware R2. Now, I'm gonna hold off and save some more money to see what 2019 has to offer.
Hopefully; better design and size, better heat management and better prices!

  • fatalradius
    fatalradius 5 months ago +2

I personally think gaming laptops are a very bad investment. They lose their value extremely quick and they wear out faster than a traditional laptop due to the heat they generate, and their battery life isn't great. What's the point of owning one when you have to plug it into a wall and game most of the time? That's what desktops are for. Personally, if I would get one, I'd go for a laptop that offers a 2050/2060 variant. Sure I won't be able to put it on high/ultra settings, but at least I can still play my favorite games on Medium, generate less heat and conserve more battery, and ofcourse, save almost 50%. I say leave the hardcore rig at home.

    • In10s
      In10s 4 months ago

3-4yrs life expectancy for gaming laptops. By that time you should be able to get something with the RTX in it. Whenever people ask me for a gaming laptop I always tell them to invest on a Desktop but then I got a job far away from where I live so portability is a huge factor for me that is why now I'm considering to get into gaming laptops. As for the thermal issues these can be fixed with Repasting and undervolting which shouldn't affect the performance anyway.

    • Brandon Bridges
      Brandon Bridges 5 months ago

You think a 2060 can't play on high settings? Wut? Even my 1060 MAx-Q plays most games just fine on maxed settings, and a 2060 is more powerful than a 1070 TI.

    • D k
      D k 5 months ago

You have a point there but in my situation i have my desktop at my collage dorm where i spend most of my time, but when i go home for holidays i cannot bring the big box with me + if i do its heavy and i have to package and unpackage the whole thing while having all the components of the PC wobble around during the bumby ride. I been wanting to get a gaming laptop since i dont know how long my current non-gaming school PC gonna hold and i also would wana game during holidays for which i am not at my collage dorm.
So far i have considered every option but the prices are crazy. I dont want to settle for anything less than 1070 as it would not last for very long. Options are MSI GS65 or GP63 but they both have build quality problems. Then we have the Asus lineup with the Zephyrus GM501M with 1060 in it that is more expensive than GS65 in Norway. The 1070 version here is over 3000usd which is insane just for 1070. These two beasts are probably the best gaming options out there as they have no problem with thermals, have solid build quality, but their price (major problem) and lack of battery life (a minor sacrifice in my book) is a deal braker. Razer Blades are also very expensive, however they are very pretty and stylish and pack a 1070, but they suffer from high thermals.
Looking at the situation and prices of desktop 20-series i think im doomed on my path to find a relatively affordable (i emphasize "relatively" as i actknowledge no gaming laptop with a bark is gonna be cheap) gaming laptop that packs serious 60-fps on ultra in every game performance.

As for laptop 16 gigabyte ram ddr4 ideal, 1060 graphics with 6 gigabyte ddr5 ram or at least 1050ti 4 gigabyte drr5 version as for screen ips led 1080p. I research alot about laptops before i brought my 14 inch gaming laptop at the end of 2016. 16 gigabyte of ram is a huge must. I brought a gaming lenovo labtop 14 inch 1080p ips display 6th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ Processor (2.60GHz 6MB), 16 gigabytes ddr4 ram, 4 gigabyte graphic card ddr5 , 256 solid state , 1 tb hard drive, usb 3.0, hdmi, double band wifi card, etc total price with tax and shipping $816.55 dollars it was a holiday sale 12/30/2016 from the main manufacturer website. Graphic card not the best but at least ddr5 overall specs were high end for laptop at the time i brought it.

Hello, I'm a little bit confusing between these choices: Acer predator 300 (2018-144hz ver), Asus ROG STRIX SCAR EDITION GL703GM-E5037T and MSI GP63 Leopard 8RE 411VN . Which one is better in COOLING system? (i'm living in a hot country so it's really important). I won't care too much about the loud. The more cooler is the better for me.
all of them has i7-8750H, GTX 1060 6gb, high refresh rate display 120-144hz (TN for MSI, IPS for others),not much different in RAM, SSD, HDD. MSI price is lower than other (about 150-200$) but a lot of people have problem with the laptop hinge design (unless it has better performance and lower temperature, I prefer others. I don't want to repair the hinge every 2-3 months.)

A new gen of lineup has released doesn't mean we are going to get more computing power for lower price. In fact, they just made their flagship GTX 980 from 4 years ago as an entry level RTX card and both costing about the same. Doesn't make sense. Just as you said, this tech is just a newer iteration over existing. This existing tech itself shall revolutionize to expect any of such outcome. Until then, a 400$ computing power is for 400$ no matter how "Next Gen" it is using this tech.

Love your video dave. The only concern I have with the rtx laptops are price. Where the 10 series was a great price to performance laptop the issue with the 20 series was not the performance boost rather how expensive an upgrade they were. Considering nvidia history I'm guessing we will see a similar price hike with these laptops as well. What do you think about that.

  • Antony Nikolov

I think he meant at @01:35 that a 2050ti will come in at 800-900 for a laptop as the one he sowed was a 1050ti laptop for 700 USD. That card (2050TI) should perform a bit better than a 1060 and slightly worse than a 1070 max q, so that should be the sweetspot... A 2050 will be like a 1060 MAX-Q too, which might be also something to watchout for... If these cards come at a lesser price than the current 1060's laptops i'd be more than willing to get one... I guess imma keep waiting. It also might be the case that AMD blows us out of the water with their 3000 cards

I love your channel and respect your opinion but I think buying a laptop now is a bad idea especially when new GPU’s are not that far out.
I agree the 10 series are great cards but nobody wants to spend thousands of dollars with “old” tech no matter how good it is.
Especially when it comes to laptops when most buyers want the latest and greatest.
