Never go to a place where you don't have freedom of expression. That's called a dictature and should be boycotted !

Before I even think of going to Dubai they need to fix there politics first, because it’s backwards there. It’s like how America was in the 1950s.

People usually see the boisterous side of Dubai....But the real Dubai is completely different...As a person who is born and brought up in a middle class Indian family of Dubai..I know what is the real working class dubai..If you wanna experience that then go to area's like Satwa, International city,Ajman,Sharjah etc.... you'll see the other side of Dubai

No freedom of speech, no human rights. If you criticize the government you go to jail and this in 2020 in a 'modern' city. Btw, wheres Latifa (the middle one)?

It's a very boring place, I spent 4 days there, awful. And yes they treat migrant workers, the people who built their country like shit.
They are obsessed with money and fakery.

you forgot to say that most of its riches is coming from money laundry from corrupt officials, drug / arm dealers, human traffickers and the list goes on.... Dubai offers the safest place in the world for these criminals and this was well documented in EU investigations. Dubai is the place you would travel to if you want to escape scrutiny...
All my country's corrupt officials escaped to Dubai after the revolution, and Dubai refused to give any info about them or extradite them back. Just ask where did Bashar AlAssad, the bloodiest dictator in the world, kept all his money and where his family flee to when they felt unsafe.. you guessed it: Freekin Dubai!

I am British and lived in Dubai for two years while doing my GCSEs there. The cheap labour force is what the city runs off. Men in blue jumpsuits, who you see working on construction sites all day and doing maintenance around the city, are driven in from the outskirts in crammed white minibuses. I would see them each morning on the school bus. They live in warehouse conditions outside of the city and agencies will often withhold their passports and payment. They are treated like droids in blue uniform, not humans. I remember after the Nepal earthquake/landslides in 2015 our neighbours told us their Nepalese cleaner's Agency would not give up her passport when she asked for it. She had just heard news her village had been destroyed and her 13-year-old daughter's leg was shattered and not receiving medical attention, yet the agency would not let her leave the UAE. Other kids and teachers at my school spoke of similar stories during that time.

The point about people having a false sense of security is true. In Dubai you are guilty until proven innocent which not many people are aware of. You will not get legal aid before trial so they will lock you up beforehand (subject to solitary and beatings). There was a case of a man and a woman (not married, a point used against them) who shared a taxi home one night and accused their taxi driver of getting lost on purpose to increase the fare. An argument broke out and he drove them to the nearest police station and said to police officers these two people have just had sex in the back of my car. Straight away they were jailed for months before any mention of a trial. I remember because the woman was a geography teacher at one of the schools near me and there were efforts to try and get her freed. My mum said she was freed but don't know what happened to the man.

Also the reality of luxury sports cars being driven at insane speeds is that the roads are so dangerous! A poor kid was killed instantly after getting off the school bus and being hit by a luxury sports car. A poorly paid staff member took the jail time and the VIP who killed that kid never faced any reprimands.

Dubai is a police state, it is a very clean place with little violence (publicly on the streets), lots of corruption and bribery and you cannot speak out against anything. It strives to be seen as an ideal image of safety and a place for innovation and yet there is so much darkness/ corruption behind it. (I am not saying there isn't corruption elsewhere in the world but at least you can complain and speak out without fear of being deported or jailed). For those of you who are wise to this already, this comment (long-ass rant) is not for you.

Edit: I have to say that I was lucky to have some great experiences there too. I also felt safe wandering the streets late at night in my close neighbourhood (as a 14 year old girl) because there is relatively little violence in public which on returning to the UK was completely different and a bit of a shock. Albeit I learnt from a friend that I was actually breaking some sort of curfew I didn't know existed lol oops.
