What if you stick the probe in the Atlantic ocean? You could probably pick up a creepy signal from a underwater submarine or from Japan 5,000 miles away.

One wire is cheaper than the multiple wires in an ethernet cable. So, if you're wiring up Jumbotrons across a whole stadium (or something similar), where latency is not a huge issue, this makes perfect sense.

I get that you're into gaming so you keep mentioning "this isn't good for gaming"...... but I don't understand why anybody would need this technology to play games on. Why would you need to see your game so far away from the device playing it?? However, I feel like the technology is PERFECT for what you used it for - sending a video signal for watching media. This would be PERFECT for businesses that display things on monitors in their stores etc etc... or maybe for a home entertainment system to play video files from your computer room and have them set up in your TV room....
BUUUUUUUT.... with all that being said:
When comparing this setup with a wireless video setup, I see no advantage. Usually anything wired preforms far better than wireless devices.... but not in this case. If you want to send an HDMI signal 200 feet through a cable, you will get signal loss.... and I'm guessing a wireless solution would probably actually have WAY less of a loss.
I cant wait for the day when as soon as you walk through your door, your phone starts charging while in your pocket and none of your televisions have to be plugged into anything but power - just a wireless HD video AND wireless power signal that can be tapped into from any device.
