Florence Pugh wakes up naked to an Oscar nomination

  • It's the moment every actor dreams of but for British actor Florence Pugh, she was actually asleep when her name was announced as one of this year's Oscar nominees.
On Instagram, the 24-year old posted two pictures of herself naked in bed on the phone: the first one hearing the news and then a second with her screaming with superimposed avocadoe emojis covering her nudity.
She told Reuters in the cinema of the London Hotel in West Hollywood "That was the moment, that was literally the moment and it was quite funny that I was naked in bed. Everyone keeps asking me 'Where were you? What were you doing? Were you watching?' and I was like, 'No, I was sleeping. I was literally sleeping.'"
She added "It hasn't sunk in yet. It's very overwhelming. It's so overwhelming and everybody asks how you feel and you don't know, you just say 'Oh I feel great.' But yeah, I'm sure as the morning goes on, it'll probably feel a bit more like real life."
Pugh is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Amy March in Greta Gerwig's 'Little Women'. While Pugh's co-star Saoirse Ronan is nominated for Best Actress and the film is nominated for Best Picture, Gerwig was not included in the Best Director category.
"I mean obviously it's sad," said Pugh, adding "I think Saoirse put it so well around the Golden Globes buzz that, you know, Greta is in the writing, she's in the directing, she's in every single one of the characters, so we share this completely with her. However, she did get a nod, she got her film seen and people are recognizing the work and the talent that's been put into it. So as sad as it is, we didn't lose out completely."
The Oscars take place at the Dolby Theatre on February 9.
