It's about time to show an update with the Savard HiQ 8 v2 DVC subwoofers. This sub offers dual 2 ohm 2.5" coils and 500 watts of RMS power handling. It appears to be a mini monster, but how does it sound? Let's take a closer look at the custom, slot ported box and try out these subs with some real power.

I would think that the SPL might be a bit higher if the box port had more room to breathe. Curious if you turned the box around and lowered the rear seats, the results may be different. Still not bad at all for 8” subs though.

These were small subs, but very fast and in that box, oh yeah! I expect that bass to be quick and responsive. Pretty loud for 8s. They are not usually loud. How about four 10s and same brand? I like that box build! Very nice work. Might improve with some Lizard skin treatment, two coats on the inside for dampening and one coat on the outside. Just a suggestion! πŸ˜πŸ’–

Ive been checkin out your vids, they are cool. Idea: test some of the old skool subwoofing using 6Γ—9s, but with new tech 6x9s , enclosures and amps. (Back in the day before xcroosovers were cheap and more available, even before amps. Power boosters and power eq's ruled , basically setting all the bands all the way down except for the last 2 or3 bands for bass., it worked...kind

Hi ,also is there a website I might be missing so that I might want to order a box to be made and delivered. I like the work done there and I'm sure others do to, so a few might want something built for them. I see there is information on camera and microphone equipment but I just don't see a website for the box, maybe I'm missing something if not see if the guys who made the box have a site to be posted, thx.

I'm too much of a hoarder to sell anything, I've got enough equipment for five (5) full installs with equipment to spare. If I had two more HUs, I'd have enough equipment for seven full installs, but after that, I'd be out of 4-channel amps and low on speakers. Guess I only have three (3) sound processors, unless one counts the 80PRS as a capable enough HU.
Can't say I've heard of that brand before. Is it fairly old, pretty new, or just a special nitch small company brand, kinda like Stereo Integrity?

Honestly, and I'm not sure how loud the are playing music, but 130dB in a daily driver is plenty loud. Guess maybe I'm just getting too old.

Those subs must have horrible efficiency, to clamp 3k with an spl score barely over 140 is says alot about their efficiency, even with a low tuned box and not much testing.

@Lyal Minchinton They are? I need to check out mire info about them. Generally 8" does not go that deep but I know there are a few that can handle it. If I could build a setup with 8" subwoofers instead of maybe 1x 12" for a decent price and still get the deepest bass notes that would be great. Quicker strokes with 8" than a 12"πŸ‘

Derick, I think a lot of people really like this box. Would you mind putting it on a scale and tell us what the whole thing weighs? A lot of us are old and consider having to lift the box, which is one of the reasons for leaning towards the 8's.

I am impressed. 143 on 4 8s in a long port musical box is dang good! I wonder if 2 hi-q 12s could approach that db with a simular box? I know the 4 8s are close to the same price I was just wondering .

    • Emmett Sapp
      Emmett Sapp 28 days ago

Brandon Weigel as far as t lines go I always like to take a few weekends to build them if I do. It really helps to walk away and come back when your mind is fresh. I've had a few to break loose at the kerfs because I was in to big of a hurry and didn't let the glue set up long enough or I cracked the wood with my brad nailer and wasn't paying attention

    • Emmett Sapp
      Emmett Sapp 28 days ago

Brandon Weigel I'm kinda thinking the same on the t line because of all the dang cuts and room. A folded horn is a good easy alternative although I'm not sure if the bandwidth is as broad as I haven't built one b4 but I've heard one that a dj had on his setup and it picked up a good broad range but it had a pro audio sub in it of course. Sounds like you have some nice equipment to work with. I always end up selling what I buy because people hear it and usually pay me more than I gave for the subs and the price of the wood for it lol. Then I buy something else. I've had a lot of subs but I really miss my kove Armageddon 12s. So loud and so clean. Like having a w7 but more output with less watts.

    • Brandon Weigel
      Brandon Weigel 28 days ago

I hear ya, if I ever get the bug back, I've got a JBL W12GTi MKII, Stereo Integrity Mag3, as well as pairs of RE Audio 15" S.E.X., Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1, and Polk MM1240d that could all get louder than this single 15" I'm running.
Always wanted to try a T-line enclosure, but never felt up to the challenge of building one.

    • Emmett Sapp
      Emmett Sapp 28 days ago

Brandon Weigel that's a nice setup, I love the clarity of Polk subs. I'm getting old myself I just can't get the bass bug off my back. I was thinking of building a folded horn or t-line with 2 of the hi-q 12s. They are supposed to be a good mix of sq and spl but in not sure if they are what they say they are. I just want to have good clean bass and be able to out slap these little rich kids around here.

    • Brandon Weigel
      Brandon Weigel 28 days ago

Don't sweat it, I know just enough to be dangerous. LMFAO
Yeah, a lot of times you get a completely useless response from someone that literally knows less than your average Joe.
I'm no basshead and loud systems just aren't my thing. Case in point, I'm currently running a Polk MM1540 in a just shy of 2cuft sealed downfiring enclosure pushed by a JBL MS-A5001. I have "better" subs and more SPL geared subs, but just don't care to mess with them for the time being. Haven't used WinISD in years and really haven't been in the loop much either, so I may well be about as knowledgeable as your next door neighbor. LOL
