Wow Mako. Nice job. You're self portrait looked fab. I think you're having way too much fun painting with the handle of the brush!!! Have you seen the ads on youtube for the thumb artists? No brushes involved. Some fine work created there too. Ooooh, there's an idea for a video - brush free painting!!!

Mako! How’d those paints work out for you? I bought the same paints but i haven’t used them yet. I’ve also bought linseed oil for water mixable oil paints, do you think it’s necessary?

Oil painting is challenging! You made an awesome attempt. :) My favorite part of your portrait is the strokes of hair over your face, that came out great. I've done 3 oil paintings in my life and they're all very mixed results but I learned something from them.

I live in The Netherlands, there's a whole tv-show where they want to find the "new Rembrandt", I love it and they also have the course in Dutch.
I really like this video, because it gives me an idea about the online master classes.

Hey Mako! I am a little late so maybe you won't see this, but another great Idea to start practicing with oil paints and speed up the initial progress a little bit is to make an underpainting with acrylic paint(just be careful not to make paint bumps) because they dry alot faster and then do the final layers with oil. It makes the task a little less daunting i think :)

You did a great job 💙 I have a tiny tip for u, when u apply the first background layer it's better to dilute the paint as much as u can so it'd dry quickly and allow u to work with paints easier 😁

Stupid question but what's the difference between water soluble oil paints and acrylics?

    • makoccino
      makoccino  9 months ago

Acrylic dries really quickly. Water mixable oil paint is the same as normal oil paint that can days or even weeks to dry 🙈 just doesn't need all the solvents and other things
