Detailing Dirtiest Car Ever! First Wash in 37 Years Mercedes 280 SL

  • Published on Aug 18, 2019
  • This was one of my favorite details and films I've ever produced. David has been asking his 83 year old father (doctor who work in NYC and travels back and forth to NJ daily) to pull his 1969 Mercedes 280 SL out of their old garage and restore it so it can be passed down to his grandchildren. David asked if we could pull the Mercedes out of the garage (where it has been for 37 years) and detail it enough so that it inspires his father to give the green light for restoration. Watch the step by step process of removing the mold, dead animals, dust, dirt, and oxidized paint back to life. Hope you enjoy the reveal :) -Larry

Generally I really don’t like Mercedes, but I have to say that this car is absolutely beautiful! If anything I think they’re older cars are actually nicer than the newer ones. Look at the attention to detail on this car, the chrome, the red dashboard, the leather seats, everything first class! I think I’m change my mind about Mercedes! Currently, I drove my fathers 2006 Ford 500, but it’s beginning to show its age, and I never thought I could restore a car to look like new, but after watching this video I just want to trade in my Ford for this car! But because my father gave it to me, I can’t part with it, I’m lucky that he is still with me at the age of 84, but his health is declining very quickly, and he won’t be around much longer, once he’s gone, all all have left that was his is the car he gave me, so I totally understand wanting to keep it in the family. But there’s no comparison between my Ford 500 in this Mercedes, although I have to say for a Ford it’s actually pretty nice, and fully loaded with every single option, it just needs a little TLC, but because I’ve been so busy taking care of both my parents, I haven’t had time. If anyone knows A really good auto restoration shop in Toronto, please let me know, I desperately want to refurbish dad‘s old car, ironically enough it’s the exact same colour is the Mercedes in this video, and has almost as much chrome, and it’s actually real chrome. My father paid a lot of extra money to ensure they put real chrome as opposed to the fake plastic chrome on his 500. He now has a brand new 2019 Taurus SHO, and while I absolutely love driving it, just because it’s a lot more powerful than I ever thought it could be, his 500 has a certain elegance to it, but no other car that Erin had. I know for a fact that my dad is going to leave me his new car as well, so I’m kind of undecided what I should do, do I keep both cars, or get rid of the 500? Either way I still need to restore the 500 as it’s got a ton of dings and scratches (My dad hasn’t got the best vision in the world, and hit many many pillows and posts while he was driving the 500, so I need an entire paint job I think, unless they can repair the scratches near the wheel wells, which is the only spots that have major scratches. I’ll be honest, I really don’t know I hell of a lot about cars except the very basics, I can change my own oil and brake pads, but when it comes to bodywork, I don’t have the time or the facilities to do it, so if anyone can recommend a place please by all means let me know, I’d be forever grateful! Just wish I could get that Mercedes in the video instead! She’s absolutely gorgeous!

What a great video - shame you guys aren't in UK - I have a red 107 SL which has been sitting for a over decade and could do with the same treatment. My Pagoda also had a mouse nest in it - we ended up taking the baby field mice to the local RSPCA after the mother did a runner.
