After an uneven final season comprised of only six episodes, fans were excited, concerned, and downright desperate to see how the Game of Thrones saga would finally end. From the Iron Throne to the fate of Westeros and the final showdown between Daenerys and Jon Snow, here's what the ending of Game of Thrones means not just for the final season, but for the entire series.
    Beware: spoilers are coming!
After the burning of King's Landing in the previous episode, several main characters wander through the brutal aftermath, with Tyrion Lannister, the Hand of the Queen, looking stricken as he walks down ruined streets and sees the bodies of those Daenerys burned without mercy. As he and Jon Snow survey the destruction, Jon and Tyrion separately set off to meet the queen.
Jon's journey finds him at odds with Grey Worm over the execution of Lannister soldiers. But soon after Tyrion sets off on his own, he makes a horrifying discovery. In a truly heartbreaking moment, Tyrion finds the bodies of his brother and sister and breaks down amid the rubble. With the rest of his house literally entombed, Tyrion finds himself suddenly alone, and in that moment, his resolve to defy his queen strengthens.
Later, as the Dothraki and Unsullied celebrate their victory, Daenerys makes a grand entrance, riding atop Drogon and landing in a perfect shot with her silhouetted by his wings. While she gives a full-throated victory speech in which she praises her army for taking down a tyrant and claiming the city as their own, viewers know the truth: Dany is no better than the tyrant she aims to replace. In fact, she's probably a lot worse, as she announces her plans to prolong the war and conquer the rest of the world.
Daenerys has always bent towards justice, but with this proclamation, it seems as if she's finally gone too far, and even her most trusted advisors seem frightened by her endless hunger for power.

@Leland Jung Not the writers fault.

@Andy Irwin No shit. It took Martin DECADES to craft this. The show writers had 4 months. Martin himself said he would have done a worse job in 4 months.

GOT series all season's are best. Even 8th season is best till last 6th final episode. Ending is poor and disappointing. There can be a different ending to a series which give justice to its populiriaty. They build John Snow such a solid character through out seasons and at last made him stupid character. Till the Night King deafited the 8th season was at its best. But final episode is poorest of them in all seasons.

in one interview with george rr martin and main cast, george said he told the story ending to D&D., that the character who will sit on the throne is one person in the room with them now, one of them:sansa, arya, john, cerci, tyrion, jamie and cathryn, that is season 2 or 3 maybe. so who will be on the throne in books as planned by george,it is obvious.

I never did like the dragon chick. From the start she seemed like a weak person given power she did not deserve. When the weak get power without earning it, they tend to misuse it. Not becoming something else but rather show their weakness even more on the outside.

Here’s a better ending if Dany had to die which I think shouldn’t have
Dany name Greyworm lead commander of forces which she did and 2nd to the queen if she falls.
Greyworm leads the unsullied and dothraki to war with the starks after Jon kills dany justice. Winners sit on the throne.

Dany went Mad a little too quickly, she was killed implausibly, Jon Snow was spared implausibly, Bran was made king implausibly, Tyrion became Hand again implausibly, they all started blabbing about rebuilding brothels a few days after 100,000 people were brutally genocided, and, and, aaand .... Ah, what’s the use, The writing and pacing sucked, it didn’t make any sense, they ruined every single thing about Game of Thrones. But other than that ... well, at least he pet Ghost. Okay, and now it’s over. Yecch.

I can explain it. As soon as the Night King died, the show turned into Pure Shite. It was almost like magic how all the goodness of that show was gone in a split second. Yes, remember the good old days when the biggest problem of the show was Too Many Weenies? R.I.P. Game of Thrones. And Benioff and Weiss? We gone find you.

There is always reference to world history, particularly the way how the west dominated the world. The whole GoT series is akin to how Europe was engulfed by plague, famines and war. In the end, they were able to found an alternative way to raise Kings/Queens. No longer a birthright and a divine one, but that which is chosen by the people who know best. Isn’t that like republicanism? And this ending, where Arya sets further westward feels a lot like Columbus founding the new world for Europe. Arya founding a new world for Westeros. Much like renaissance x French Revolution (bastille style). I can only imagine stories from Arya in her old age governing settlements in that part west of Westeros establishing ties as well with it, particularly with the North. Judging how UK’s history went by, the whole of Westeros probably won’t break up ever again. The North, in a sense is like Ireland, and whatever land Arya sees would be the Americas. Drogon, probably flies further east. Highly relevant to how Westeros achieved its enlightenment and break from tyrannical rule of families who drive by birthright. Dany is dead, but will be a forgotten figure only Drogon can live by. I think he will eventually end up in Ashai and where people surely know what happened. And I think Ashai is Asia. Far East, holds much history the world has yet to know. And Further into this story, Ashai is probably closest to west of Westeros than we might think, and could probably be, ironically the land further west coming full circle. And Arya sees it for herself.
As for Jon, he’s welcome to go back and forth I think. With Bran and Sansa sitting on thrones. The North is compassionate with the wildlings now. And what about Eastwatch? The sprouting grass probably is a foreshadowing that the wall will be in ruins or no use as the ice melts away gradually. The black will relax and just be a gate for whatever relationship will be. Bran will write a constitution setting reliable laws for everyone, and could someday abolish the monarchies all together. They will look east to Bravos and other cities that have no kings & queens for inspiration but will probably have cold relationships with the bay of dragons for killing their heroine-Dany.

I didnt like the ending at all 😐 1. The dragon queen was killed too easily 😵2. John Snow ❄️ banished far north as punishment for killing Daenerys Targaryen! 😱Sansa and Bran agree to this exile when he did everyone a favor by killing the psycho queen yet he is punished. 3 Cersai died so stupid by falling rocks in the Castle and we dont even see her get killed 🗡, I wanted to see her die a vicious death ☠️ at the hands of the dragon queen🐉 or Arya Stark 🏹 for all of the evil she did but no we dont get that.👎😾👺😡👿🖕🤢😤😩😫😓😥😢😪😬💀⚰️

Sad it's all over. The war with the white walkers was very gripping, the music built up the tension perfectly. I was disappointed that Jon Snow didn't become King. I would imagine working together for so many years, these actors will miss the work and company of each other. Great entertainment and well acted throughout. Goodbye Jon Snow, so beautifully acted.

It is such a PERFECT conclusion to GoT. D&D have done a brilliant job.
The conclusion laid a foundation to the the end of an era of royals & royalty & beginning of another era - democracy & the rule of law.
And who best to usher this in - Bran - the philosopher king & a broken one, who has neither the desire nor the capability to further his royal ambition through biological perpetuation.
And so begins the new world order.
    My compliments to the writers.

Jon Snow is an absolutely disgusting character, he is a backstabber, he betrayed the nightswatch, his first love and then finally Daenerys in a two-faced, intrigant and manipulating manner. He used her love for him against her. He has no consistent morals. He is a coward.
And he is full of self-pity with is almost constantly miserable look on his face. He has never processed being (treated as) a bastard.
