This is the kind of stuff that literally feeds my soul. I'm 49 but I've discovered it when I was 13 and 50s group and doo wops always been my primary go to sound

Another group that knocked it out of the park on everything they recorded. From "My Lost Love" on Atlas, through their stuff on Sound and Teen, to "False Alarm" on Chess, they are Philly's finest!

    I like the bass singer.

Exceptional!...but not really a ballad; more of a mid to uptempo cut.

I'm a country & western devotee, but this is a ripper of a recording. Can anybody out there tell me the year of its release ?

      Sorry - 1956, not 58

Thanks for the response RockinRedRover. Over here in Australia we never had the privilege of hearing a lot of great material such as the above, as they were not released here. A lot of these obscure recordings are brilliant, yet were sadly ignored when initially released........

Hi Colin, I echo your comments entirely !. It was 1955.

Everything this group did was great! From their early Atlas side, to the releases on Sound and Teen, through "False Alarm" on Chess, they are consistant killers!

Absolutely! First thing I heard them do was Dead Man's Stroll (which apparently was later renamed to Midnight Stroll due to some weird complaints regarding the dead?). I was about 10 and was already totally hooked on Doo-Wop and crazy about the Revels! My friends thought I was nuts. HA HA! They were right!!!! Thanks for the great post!

I sold this one a few months ago and didn't get anywhere close to that. Then again, the record has a small edge chip which dropped the value drastically

Good question. I'm not sure myself, but I usually hear their name pronounced as "Ruhvels." Ronnie I had the group live at UGHA in the 90's and that's how he pronounced their name

How is the name of this group pronounced? Does the Re part rhyme with be or is it more of a "ruh" sound? I'm thrown by the dash.

"You Lied To Me" is the one Re-Vels 45 on Teen that I don't have. Yes, a lot of releases on Teen and Sound were pop but both labels put out some surprises

  • CrisVangel1958
    CrisVangel1958 6 years ago

If "You Lied To Me" is on the other side then I'm about to flip my wig... lol. This is nice too, though. Like that label! Even though most of what was on that label if I'm not mistaken was like terminally pop..
