Border crossing from Northern Ireland UK into The Republic of Ireland

  • Published on Dec 27, 2012
  • Ryan Janek Wolowski, Theresa Irene Wolowski, crossing the border from Northern Ireland UK into The Republic of Ireland
Dublin meaning "town of the hurdled ford", is the capital city of Ireland. The English name for the city is derived from the Irish name Dubhlinn, meaning "black pool". Dublin is situated near the midpoint of Ireland's east coast, at the mouth of the River Liffey and the centre of the Dublin Region.
Originally founded as a Viking settlement in the 9th century, it evolved into the Kingdom of Dublin and became the island's principal city following the Norman invasion. Following the partition of Ireland in 1922, the new parliament, the Oireachtas, was located in Leinster House. Dublin became the capital of the Irish Free State and later the Republic of Ireland.

So sad that ROI has been given away so soon. Given up to be governed by Germany and invaded by their foreign freinds from Africa and Asia and the middle east. England and Ireland were not good neighbours. It looks like neither will survive.

One day as an English guy with some Irish Heritage from the South, I hope that The Republic Unites the whole of Ireland, the north really belongs to those in the south, but on top of Fighting for a United Ireland, I believe with the way the world is going, Its important for the Irish to secure their nation and not make the same mistakes the UK is doing, with plenty of ISIS lovers living amongst us, as an English guy, chances are I would eventually end up a target over in IRE because of my accent but do I believe in the cause of a reunified Ireland? I would have to say Yes.. those who love Britain so much in the north, as much as to lay claim to the North for Britain, might as well just move back to Britain, You are in Ireland and the clue is in the name, Want to know something Interesting? the right to own anything for the purpose of Self Defence is not allowed in England/Scotland/wales but in Northern Ireland, the British allow it... I wonder why, desperate to hold on to this land that's why, It has nothing to do with caring about the well being of their citizens, because if they did they would respect the same natural rights of those back in England etc.

As someone who lives in a country that doesn't share a land border with any other country (Australia), I have always been interested in how countries that do share land borders mark out the border between them, and the way that people are allowed to cross the border.

Good.. dont see no problem with it, even as a UK person, If the UK wants to occupy the north of Ireland, and claim it as a separate nation, then they really should make it visible that this is their ''Border'' What's the fuss with UK media going it will reinstate the troubles again.. face it, Its only a matter of time before Ireland wants the whole of Ireland back anyway.

    • HaiLsKuNkY
      HaiLsKuNkY Year ago

yeah under world trade organisation rules, you must have customs checks, or you risk giving an unfair trade advantage to each other which would be discriminating against other countries.. so if we didn't have a customs border we would be sued..

Somebody needs to tell them that they don't need a passport to travel from the UK to Ireland and going into Mainland Europe gets even better.. Once your on the mainland, you can go anywhere in Europe without a passport (Well Most Countries Anyway)... Just to add a note: If the UK votes to leave Europe (I hope they don't) in the referendum, watch this space.. You'll see border controls go up like a shot.

    • CoreRTV
      CoreRTV 3 years ago

+flip inheck ... I apologise.. I worded my comment wrong.. You are correct, you do need a passport to enter mainland Europe but once there you are free to travel the Schengen Zone without needing your passport again.

    • CoreRTV
      CoreRTV 3 years ago

Well as you may have noticed by my comment... The EU referendum didn't go the way I wanted it to go...
As for your question.... If the UK does indeed leave the EU then I can see no way that the open border can remain as it will no longer be just the border between the north and south, it will also be the border for the European Union..
If this border were to remain open after Brexit, there would be no way for the UK to control immigration once EU citizens have entered Ireland via the south...
I really hope that the UK government see some sense in this madness and reverse the decision of the referendum.

    • flip inheck
      flip inheck 3 years ago

+CoreRTV you are wrong, both UK and Irish citizens need a passport to travel in Europe, the UK and Ireland are not part of the Schengen zone. Even if the UK leaves the EU the Irish border will remain open as this free open border agreement between Ireland and the UK has nothing to do with EU membership.
