16” MacBook Pro - Apple’s Last Chance

  • Published on Feb 19, 2019
  • The 16" MacBook Pro sounds like it'll be the best MacBook ever, but it needs an engineering overhaul to get around the thermal limitations of the current design. I WANT TO BELIEVE.

Also I get then the Gaming options which not a thing for Macs! I really wonder why to buy it?

It seems like it's going to be a tiny update, using the same chassi and same keyboard. The bezel seems to be almost the same aswell. That would mean the same design will be used another 4 years.

If they moved to ARM there would be less thermal issues.

  • Oliver Q
    Oliver Q 3 months ago

This is my hope too. Otherwise MBP can get fucked. They sacrificed durability and 'it just works' for bullshit spec chasing, and form. They can no longer charge premiums for trash. They better get back to a proper thermal product. We do not need super specs with heat limitations and short life span.
They need a decent price point at entry. They need 500 gigs std. And they need to fix heat throttling.
We don't mind slightly bigger or slightly less specs. Just go back the concept of: 'it just works'... And Apple can reclaim its position as a market leader.
    Otherwise apple can fuckoff.

@Adam Smith Mostly driver issues with newer hardwares. You get a new Porsche but linux only recognize it as an old truck. You wait for another 2 years, you finally get open source Porsche support which doesn't take advantage of the turbo feature.

All laptop designers need to rightsize their chassis for better batteries and thermals and abandon the obsession with being the thinnest. It's surprising how dumb and sheep-like an entire manufacturing sector can be. Well, maybe not.

Apple's made a huge mistake when discontinuing the 17" Macbook Pro models in 2011. We still sell the 17" MBP 2.5GHz for $1200+ People love the big screens, especially older users. Apple is finally coming to their senses!

The heck with thermals, they need to properly address the butterfly 🦋 keyboard epidemic, just like touch disease on the 6 pulse. If you can’t enter text on any of your devices then it an over priced paper weight. I got burned and I’ll be damned if I get screwed a second time! And to put things into context in an share holders report from two years ago Apple was aiming to double their customer service capacity to 50 million dollars. They’re banking on your over price crap to break. How do you think the car industry has been keeping profitable all these years? Arrr!

Why would anyone want a 16" laptop. I own a 15.6" acer one and I hate it. Maybe the keyboard is comfortable but it's definitively stretching the definition of portable device. I still think ~13" is the sweet spot for laptops

Not holding my breath. Apple painted itself in to a corner, and won't allow itself to regress to a thicker case. There are so many other factors with their designs that create unneeded problems for pro users, like soldering all the components to the motherboard so you can't do any kind of repairs or upgrades in-house. It's just easier at this point to turn to PC-based workflows for most professional users.

3:25 - "They have a chance of making something good... if they're smart!"
Apple is a very smart beast of a company, which is why they know they don't have to make something good, they just have to make something average.... that is sleek & stylish.... and people will still buy it!

ldisc66 I used to love apple, I really did. And I still have Mac computers and iPhones and all the other iShit. I refuse to spend money on these newer computers, they’ve totally screwed them and the customer. Still rocking my 2014 MacBook and 2012 Mac Mini and I’m totally happy with that. I want to be able to upgrade and fix things as needed. You just can’t with their new products. It’s lame as hell.

    Keep dreaming
I'll never understand how Apple people keep hoping and hoping only to get turned down year after year after year. Been like that for decades. Just a new generation doing the same stuff their parents used to do. Always the endless disappointments...but never NOT buying Apple. That never seems to be a thought. No one is a fan boy.....nah....doesn't exist but still everything in their lives is about Apple.

just give up on thinning the macbook pro, Apple, just make same size like the 2015 model so that you can put i9 processsor and make up for better cooling solution, also with reliable ports like 2x thunderbolt usb4 type-c port, 1 or 2x displayport and 1x type A usb 3.1(this is for wireless mouse or keyboard) and at least latest high speed micro-sd card if not sd card reader for photographer, ok...

As soon as Apple are happy with their in house processors being put in laptops the next giant leap forward will be upon us. Anybody editing video on a current iPad Pro knows the potential of a device several times the size with active cooling. I don't see a bigger heavier chassis being delivered, but if it is it will be a one season stop gap to make the time for the in house processor finalization.
