UK Election 2019: Boris Johnson's Conservatives win majority - BBC News

  • Boris Johnson is back in Number 10 Downing Street tonight, this time as prime minister of a majority Conservative government, after a notable victory in yesterday's election, where his party made sweeping gains in England and Wales. The prime minister said he hoped the result would bring 'closure' to the Brexit debate and start a process of healing.
The Conservatives have emerged with a majority of 80 seats in the Commons - the party's biggest since 1987.
But it was a very different story for Labour. It was their worst performance since the 1930s. Jeremy Corbyn says he will not lead Labour into another election but he hasn't yet announced his plans to step down.
The Liberal Democrats also had a bruising night - their leader Jo Swinson lost her seat to the Scottish National Party. Indeed, across Scotland, the SNP made sweeping gains winning 48 of the 59 seats available. The electoral map of the UK was redrawn overnight.

With all seats declared, this is the state of the parties. The Conservatives have 365 seats; Labour 203; the SNP 48; the Lib Dems 11; the DUP 8; Plaid Cymru 4 ; and other parties 11.
Sophie Raworth presents today's BBC News at Six and hears from the BBC's political editor Laura Kuenssberg, political correspondent Alex Forsyth and deputy political editor John Pienaar.

Brext and all the Prime minister wants is to get out of europe instead of getting to the bottom of the national newspapers bullying another Royal prince and princess. Are you going to continue ignoring the real facts the nation wants sorting Mr Johnson?

Nigel Farage is a genius. Put pressure on conservative candidates to support Brexit and take votes away from Labour. Well done.

It's important that we pressure Boris and are new government to abandon the Tony Blair government s (Orwellian police state) agenda and purge Britain of all the laws they made unlawfully against are ancient liberties plus; where was the social contract we signed agreeing to having are details given and to be harassed by police.
The Tony Blair government used the fear of terrorism perpetuated by the media to implement "the prevention of terrorism act". To give up your liberties in the name of fighting terror !
What made Britain so liberated was that the state could not stop a member of the public without reasonable suspicion.
The prevention of terrorism act has changed this
Plus the police have been indoctrinated with notions of pre judgement towards folk of difference thus that's the end of equality under the law then isn't it.

Labour has lost the plot. Zero credibility at present. Boris and Tories have once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a government of the People, for the People - not just the Elites.

Labour lost because the media chose that they loose. Corbyn was put there by the media and then destroyed by them at a time of their choosing, just before the election in this case. The working class voting for the Tories en mass, it's not as though they figured that out for themselves, is it?!

i know people wouldve voted differently if they pulled the sun/mail from over their eyes. the sun - owned by murdoch (tory donor with long history of affiliation to the party) and the mail - owned by lord rothermere (tory lord). our people have been brainwashed

we didnt give a fuck about the EU or leaving europe until the press started feeding us propaganda around 2014/2015 when cameron was going to/from brussels trying to get a new deal, and had to satisfy his tax-avoiding toryboy mates by putting a referendum in the 2015 tory election manifesto.

the eu, at the end of the day, has basically no influence over us. pretty irrelevant really. does the european union affect the lives of normal working class people? no not in any way. they werent even being thought about. but the press whipped up all these lies + smears, instilled fear in us (told us leaving would stop freedom of movement + solve our immigration problem, give more money to NHS, etc) until we voted the way we did

anyone with common sense knows that leaving the eu wont change immigration overnight, it's a lot more complex than turkey, fact. anyone with common sense and knows their history will know that the tories wont suddenly start funding our health service, theyll keep privatising it and have been generally trying to stamp it out since its creation in 1945.

theyve been stripping it bare over the last 10 years since theyve been in power, notice how they havent even got thier own ambulances anymore but little white vans with 'NHS working in partnership with DHL' or 'NHS working in partnership with G4s. DHL? thats a german courier company who could barely deliver kfc chicken on time. G4S? they treat our prisoners like cattle and have ex tories like john reid on its board. funny that. this is on top of longest ever a+e waiting times, shortage of nurses + beds and hospital closures, caused by chronic underfunding by the same people who say that they will give our NHS 'record investment', fuck sake.

we got to ask ourselves, whos really profiting from all this? wheres all the money going? cos it definitely didnt go towards 'reducing the deficit' - the tories added Β£555 billion to the national debt (2010-2017) when in 2010 the deficit was only 103 billion. where have all those hundreds of billions of pounds from the privatisation of our nhs and public services gone? the pockets of the tory party. funny that they go on about labour's 'magic money trees' when they lie through their teeth the way they do

anyway itd be a pretty different situation altogether if we werent all reading tory rags, lets wake up people

Reading the comments below I get the impression the BBC in the UK is just the same as the ABC in Australia .... a completely left wing biased organisation. Well, if that is true then the BBC needs to swallow the bitter pill that their elitist left wing, arrogant attitudes are just plain not popular and will always result in defeat when faced with a population of people of all races, creeds, gender, etc, who are just sensible and rational.

I remember a few years ago, Brexit won by 51% to 49%. Then, a few weeks later, BBC kept mentioning how new polling showed that Remain has gained more support, and that if the vote was taken again, Brexit would lose. Day after day people kept pointing to these polls bragging about how Remain has more support than Brexit. Fake Polls, Fake News.

This is happens when the "Labour Party" forgets they represent people who are labour. It is hard to be a "globalist" and still represent people who think they still live in a nation state. Look at what is happening to the Democratic Party in the States.

Something similar will happen in the U.S. in November 2020 if the Democrats nominate a far left liberal for president. Trump will win again. Best hope for Democrats is Tulsi Gabbard, who would carry a lot of GOP vote.

52.8 percent of the electorate voted for parties against Brexit, Labour, Lib Dem, SNP, Green, Scottish Green, Plaid, Alliance, SDLP, Sinn Fein, Liberal, Yorkshire Party, Mebyon Kernow, North East, the Speaker, Soubry party, Green NI, Renew, and then a tiny percent also for centrist and left wing, Eurosceptic parties, putting it to barely 47 per cent for the Eurosceptic right wing parties, which is below the 48 percent who voted against Brexit, if there was a referendum, then Bojos deal would be beaten and we would stay in the EU,
