Went to do my wife’s brakes today but even after 3 years and we live on a big hill in Western Canada, the pads were fine. Pretty sure it was the dust plate. Bent it out and all is good except with one hand I broke 2 -1/2”x 3/8” adaptors for my breaker bar and sockets. Dad is powerful.

Hi Chris, on this video you used anti-seize on the pad ears and on the back of the outside pad and on another you used the silicone grease in those same places. I keep getting confused which one should be used in those places. or doesn't it matter which one is used.
    Thanks

Hey Chris, Great video. Thanks for enlightening me about this topic. Really appreciated.
When the brake is applied, sometimes it makes a noise, sometimes it feels as though there is something obstructing the free movement of brakes, sometimes it feels as if the brake pedals go down incrementally making a tick tick tick noise.
A mechanic has even changed the brake fluid but when he checked he may not have observed the noise etc as they are very random and intermittent. I should definitely check again. You have given me some good ideas and some hope.

I hear a squeaking but not when I'm applying the breaks. What could that be? It's occurs seldomly and it's like a metal on metal sound while the tire rotates. Thanks for all the advice and help!

6:19 - Could it not be sanded enough to remove all the groves? Sure, that'd take a while (at least by hand), it looks like there's enough material left to sand it smooth and still get plenty of life out of that pad.

Thanks Chris! My car is making a chirping noise as I drive, it sounds like crickets. The tire shop has replaced the brakes and rotor twice, but the chirping sound continues. It is only as the car is driving and it makes some chirping when I apply the brakes lightly. Is this just a matter of lubrication? It is driving me crazy! Thank you so much!

I worked at a Monty Wards as a service writer in the 1980s.
After explaining to a customer why they need $400 in brake repairs, her response was
"What's the cheapest thing I can do to stop hearing the squealing?"
"Well, you can turn the radio up."
    ...
"Can I speak to your manager please."

    Job went downhill from there.

Hi Chris, Thanks for the great video. I have disc breaks in my 2013 Hyundai sonata. During my last break pad replacement (3 months back), I did not resurface or replaced the rotor because they were seemed ok. This was first break pad replacement at ~60k miles and there was still life left in the break pads. After the break pad change, I notice break pads making a sound as soon as you release the break. In addition, Lately I have a new occasional noise when I push my breaks. It's mostly at slow speeds and it's not reproducible. It's occasional. any ideas for diagnosis for these two noises?

I had an extremely high pitched and very loud screeching noise coming from my front rotors of my 2015 Lexus Gs350 Fsport, I then replaced my front pads and rotors, and it’s still making that same exact noise when I brake, my calipers are perfectly fine, these don’t have guide pins as these are 4 piston calipers. There’s nothing stuck between pads and rotors, and it’s coming from both front brakes, I don’t know how to contact or get help from you

  • Poul Fannar Mittelstein

Hello chris, brake noise allso can come from the edge of the wear material you see at 6:08 tipical for bosch pads on for example honda cars, other wise i think you covered it all 😊 love your videos 👍

Sounds like simple surface rust on the braking surface of the rotors/drums. Nothing to worry about. Humidity in the air causes this to happen. The first one or two times it happens will knock the rust right off.

copper and/or graphite anti seize compound is not a lubricant! it has sand in it!! silica dioxide to be more specific, it does not have lubricating properties! it is for keeping bolts from rusting and SEIZING, thats why its called anti seize!!! use brake lubricant!!! thats what brake LUBRICANT is designed for!!!
