Yup. And many people also think Startrek is real too.. NASA NEVER EVER SENT ASTRONAUTS TO THE LUNAR SURFACE....NEVER... NASA CREATED SIX SIMULATION MOVIE SETS CALLED THE MOON AND ONE OF THESE FILMING SETS WAS LOCATED IN HAWAII NEAR THE BASE OF SEVERAL VOLCANOES AND THE VOLCANIC ASH SOIL CONDITION WAS PERFECT FOR THE APOLLO FILMING MISSIONS. THE ASTRONAUTS DURING THE APOLLO MISSIONS WERE ONLY IN THE EARTH'S LOW ORBIT.. EVEN TODAY NASA IS UNABLE TO SEND MANNED OR UNMANNED SPACECRAFT TO THE LUNAR SURFACE AND RETURNED TO EARTH SAFELY... RECENTLY NASA ANNOUNCED THAT THEY COULD NOT RETURN ASTRONAUTS BACK TO EARTHS SURFACE ONCE THEY HAVE LEFT EARTH'S LOW ORBIT AND ANY SPACECRAFT WHICH LEAVES THE EARTH'S LOW ORBIT WILL BE ONE WAY ONLY....

  • whovianhistory buff 2345

1.10 they got that wrong they fire the engines at the count of 7 so that the thrust is maximized and lift off it at 0 the sequence is thus
T-7 seconds the engines ignite and the thrust builds up to 7.5 million pounds (the rocket wont move as it is clamped to the launch pad)
0 the clamps are released and the rocket lifts off and is typically going 120mph by the time it clears the tower.

    • whovianhistory buff 2345
whovianhistory buff 2345 2 months ago

@the liar king maybe but my point is NASA doesn't fire the rockets at zero 0 is liftoff not ignition

    • the liar king
the liar king 2 months ago

      t-8.9 seconds is ignition time.

Tom Hanks was totally the wrong actor to cast as Jim Lovell! Astronauts are bad ass, intelligent, and fearless. Watching Hanks is like watching Josh Baskin in the movie Big. Dumb decision by the casting director for the Movie Apollo 13.

    • jimmyfly
      jimmyfly 2 months ago +1

Harry Callahan - astronauts are calm, collected, intelligent, and fearless. Hanks was a good pick.

  • Джейсон Хичкок

I would give this video a like if that douche bag, idiot Tom Hanks was not acting in this great movie.
Tom Hanks is a moron who does not understand anything about reality.

TVclip screwed up hard!!! Rockets NEVER blow out fire upon launch, then suck it back in, in reverse! That's physically impossible!

    • jimmyfly
      jimmyfly 2 months ago

Bitchy_ Bitch! - TVclip screwed up? Wtf are you talking about?
The first flames you see are from ignition, then the rockets light and create a low pressure zone in the flame trench that sucks the flames and smoke down into the flame trench. The engines didn’t suck anything in, in reverse.

    • Craig Dennen
      Craig Dennen 3 months ago

That actually did happen, though not to the extent they showed in the movie. The high speed exhaust created a low pressure zone under the launch deck inducing the surrounding air to flow back through the hole. Check launch camera E-8 of the Apollo 11 mission to see the effect.

The only thing unrealistic is how the launch is extended for dramatic effect
At 13 seconds they would have cleared the tower already. In this sequence it is more than a minute before they do that.

Not a woman in sight. Those were the days. 😀

    • jimmyfly
      jimmyfly 2 months ago

Taco Bell - that’s why things got done. Everyone cared about function, not form. Women would have wanted to talk about the color of the rocket or the composition of the team, to make sure it was “inclusive” and friendly.

I am old now, but I still feel a sense of wonder at the awesome majesty of a saturn 5 coming off the pad. This was my childhood, and Mars is now your dream.
