In less than 1 minute I'm convinced to not support her. At all.
"On day one, I'm going to repeal that tax bill that they passed..."
No, you're not. The President doesn't get to unilaterally repeal laws.
She's pandering and claiming she's going to do something that the *knows* she can't do.
Is anyone buying her BS here?
I'm done with blatant pandering BS.
This is no different than Republicans saying that on day one they'd repeal the ACA.

      @ƒ(x)
Technically it won't happen on day 1, but it is theoretically possible. They don't even need to win the Senate. The history of Republicans getting control of these two branches of government is that they pass a big tax giveaway to the rich which then so increases the deficit that the next Congress or so realizes that they have to roll it back. Trump's giveaway was so insane that once he's gone no will defend it.

@KEEP CALM and PLAY SOCCER IN YOUR PAJAMAS
      Still no.
Democrats would need to get te majority in the Senate, keep the house, draft legislation, reconcile the bills, all without Republicans obstructing it, and then she could sign it.
In no way is she repealing it on day one. It isn't something she can do alone, the way she's presenting it.
It is pandering rhetoric and you're falling for it.

The Senate would probably repeal the tax bill so yeah, it is possible to do it on day 1.

@Andi amo huh? I didn't even know who Robert Byrd was until just now when I looked it up, so how could I have shipped them?
Edit: It might have just been so long since I've heard about him, and he just didn't make much of an impression on me for remembering him for long term knowledge. If I did make that comment, I totally forgot

A $6000 tax credit pays for one semester of my kid's tuition BEFORE she's admitted to her major. It's less than half after that since they raise the price for the 300+ level courses.
Sorry Harris, I don't want bribes, I want real, progressive policy and a track record so I know you're not lying

I hate idiots like you. You have no sense of a larger picture and think everything can get fixed with one act or the snap of the fingers. Additionally you don't do any research beyond what other people tell you and entirely dependent on other people to reaffirm your cognitive biases.

I wonder if you put this much scrutiny into the policies of certain other candidates. Somehow I doubt it.

      Couple things:
      1. Harris has one of the most progressive records of anyone running, both as AG and as Senator.
      2. The LIFT Act isn't meant to handle all of your debt and problems, it's literally meant to bolster your savings and pay for emergencies. Harris supports debt-free college (which would eliminate your kid's tuition) and proposed the Rent Relief Act, which would effectively cap rents nationwide at 20% of income.

None of these policies are bribes, they're pragmatic progressive solutions to issues that folks like us face. I'm not 100% sold on Harris yet, but from what I've seen and read, she'd definitely a favorite.

The tax bill was just debt... Repealing it doesn't actually pay for anything. Not that I don't think it shouldn't go. It was a horrible law. But all Harris is going to do is put us back to status quo

    • davidwave4
      davidwave4 5 months ago +7

The idea is that the debt that would pay for the tax bill will pay for the LIFT Act, which will actually increase middle class spending and incomes, resulting in more sustainable and broad-based economic growth.

What's your favored tax policy? Among the 2020-ers, the LIFT Act is perhaps the best tax policy targeted at middle income earners. Warren's Ultra Millionaire Tax is great too, but unless she implements her other policies, none of that money goes directly to middle class people. Harris cuts out the middle man and directly gives folks money. It's like Yang's UBI, but costed out.
