Modern construction in the states would be lucky to last 60 years. They look like crap after 5 years. Cheap materials presented in a modern style don't last. My mid century rancher is only 1200 square feet and was a rental for years. But it's solid and open plan. Double garage could lend to expansion. Quiet end of gravel road. 1/2 acre plot. I love my house. A building plot with established dwelling means there's utilities???that's how it works in my area. If you've got a derelict house you can leave it up and build whatever you want.

Asbestos, is not specialist, it's their job. Stop hiking the price up calling it specialist...

What a load of tosh. Asbestos I mean. Breathing aperators are much superior these days. As always, designed to rip off the public...

I know Liskeard very well. There is a good train service to London. Looe is 8 miles away. Wonderful countryside and fabulous beaches not far away.

The couple with the old post office were gracious and charming, and did a heckuva job on that renovation. I would wish them both all good things, and continued success in their future endeavors. Hope that house sold quickly.

Rosie Love - you're right, it does. Perhaps a flat finish on the ceiling, and adding some crown molding could have worked too. The budget may have played a part; they were 70K - 80K over what they originally thought they'd spend (30K seemed a bit low though; not surprised they had to spend more!)
