Please someone help me ? Idk what's going on or what a balk is or why he let them hit

  • D S
    D S 7 days ago

I think he should have just called time after every pitch to talk with the catcher.

If the MLB wants to complain about slow games then they need to punish stealing signs so BS like that isn't needed.

The pitcher basically intentionally let that guy in 2nd base move to 3rd base so he can't read the signs that the catcher was showing to the pitcher. That's never been done before because it makes it easier for the guy in 3rd base to score but Jansen was confident he would strike the batter out

  • agonzalez8924
    agonzalez8924 10 days ago

That was pretty damn interesting, and pretty smart. Ive never seen that either, but it makes sense. The guy is just as much in scoring position at second as he is in third, so why not just move him over to keep him from relaying signs. Plus if he is just distracting you at second, then all the better.
Of course, now you just gotta make sure you dont put one in the dirt that gets away from the catcher, but these guys are pros that can manage the situation.
Fuck it, that was brilliant, i approve 👌

Sure glad this video blew up the way it did or I wouldn’t have known about this amazing channel. I’ve seen every one of your breakdowns now. Reminds me of how me and my dad would go to Braves games. Makes me want to follow baseball again.

Question: What if the runner didn’t want to steal 3rd? Why didn’t he just stay on 2nd?

    • J Ygb
      J Ygb 8 days ago

Now that is a question for the rule book. I don’t think Heyward was legitimately trying to steal, but regarding balk rules, i’d be interested to know if a team could decline the free base. I doubt any team would ever make it an issue as it would then look like they were, in fact, trying to steal signs.

  • jgonz185
    jgonz185 12 days ago

Now this begs the question: can a runner deny himself going to third in this situation? He knows he’s a distraction leading off at second base.

He could have just thrown the ball in the dirt, throw it to the backstop or even just roll it underhand to the catcher. Same result.

Jansen didn't want Heyward to tip off his pitches.

  • Nick W
    Nick W 17 days ago

I still don't see how intentionally balking him over to third isn't a dumb thing to do when you've only got a two run lead in the 9th. There could have been a slow roller to second or short, a play where Heyward wouldn't be able to score from second, and you've just made it so that he can score.

I'm not sure how an intentional balk works,or when and how you use it. Someone please educate me.

    • DGJunkie1
      DGJunkie1 18 days ago

The base runner was trying to steal the signs from the catcher so he could let the batter know what pitch is coming. So the pitcher intentionally balks to send the runner to third so he can't see the signs.

Can someone please explain this? What is balking? Why did the blue jersey walk to the next base lol. Did the pitcher let him steal? sorry lol

    • Kyle
      Kyle 20 days ago

@al ross What illegal move did he do? Tapping your foot? And why was it necessary for him to balk? Did Heyward read their hand code? Even if he did, so what? lol sorry please go into details I wanna know wtf is going on here

    • D
      D 20 days ago

Whenever a pitcher balks the batter or the runner is awarded a base. If there's no runners on the batter gets awarded first base. If there's runners on base they get to advance a base. Bases loaded a run scores. Runner at 3rd gets to score if there's a balk committed by the pitcher. It's usually a mistake. Fake pitching motion is a balk. If you fake a pitch then motion to throw for a pickoff at any base it's a balk. And if you tap your foot like Jansen did I guess that's a balk too.

What if the runner didn't want to go to 2nd? Can he make that choice? Or is this like a gentalman's thing? And it if is, isn't he NOT being the gentleman in the first place by tipping off the pitches from 2nd base?
I get it... and I don't get it.

    • James Dent
James Dent 21 day ago +1

I believe he is forced to go to the next base no matter what, what he is doing is trying to figure out what the pitcher will throw to try and let his teammate get ready for a specific pitch.
