So, I do not understand. Where did the food producers and food merchants procure unadulterated food? Or did they really believe the poison crap they sold was just fine, and so ate it happily themselves?

Victorians: "That milk isn't spoilt! Add Borax and it will be fine."
2019: My kid, "Mom, can we buy Borax so I can make my slime?"
Damn, Borax knows how to run an ad campaign!
    What's next Borax- WHAT'S NEXT?

If I want to live a place where milk wouldn't be so poisonous in Victorian Era would be India. There were many people in India during Victorian Era consume milk. For sour milk in India, they are made into yogurt. Yogurt was consume in India long before the western world knew about the benefits of yogurt. If you don't believe me, ask an Indian who has a good knowledge about milk.

The Chinese are doing the same. Fake rice. Fake eggs. And they were caught out using. Meat from feral animals here in Australia. It wasn't in my city Sydney but in Melbourne. I have never eaten Chinese food since.

You can achieve these desired qualities without poison. It's easy to say they didn't know... but what if a guiding force DID know? We have a lot of poison in our foods today, FDA finally admitted our water supply causes cancer, though their estimates are LAUGHABLE.
I guess my point is, it's possible this is a conspiracy, not just a "whoopsie daisy, dearie me, didn't realize ol chap!" scenario lol. I mean... come on.

The only difference between what food producers did then and now is the food producers of today knowingly contaminate food. Food manufacturers of today have access to far better science than in the 1800's and we now know what benefits the body & what will harm it but our food is still loaded with a multitude of unhealthy ingredients. And the motivation is the same as it has always been .$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Scummy salesmen selling botched wares for that "sweet" profit. I wonder how much of this is still going on in the modern west world? I know it's quite prominent in China, for example, right now. They are the kings of fake.
