How the Jets crashed and burned after back-to-back AFC Championship appearances | Collapse

  • It may feel like an alternate universe but there was a time when Rex Ryan, Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets were setting the NFL on fire, in a good way. They reached back-to-back AFC Championship games in their first two seasons together and the future finally looked bright for a franchise built on failure. But just like seeing a waterfall in the desert, it was all a mirage. The Jets crashed and burned while the football world watched, not in amazement, but surprise it hadn’t happened sooner.

I wanted this one so bad. '09-'11 Jets had so much potential.
I used to follow Mark Sanchez and Pete Carroll in their USC days. Loved how they both got drafted the same year. Started following the Jets and Seahawks because of them. Pete Carroll had said Mark Sanchez wasn't ready to join the NFL. He was right, but the guy was pretty good

To be honest, the Jets never really "crashed" because they were a house of cards from the beginning. Never should have qualified for the playoffs in 2010, especially if the Colts didn't take Peyton out of the game, beat the Chargers on 3 missed field goals, were drop-dead lucky in 5 of their 11 regular season wins, and got a huge break against the Colts in the playoffs. Yeah, they had a good defense, but they did what the Jets always do - fill in the gaps with geriatric has-beens.

The fact rex ryan took the jets to back to back afc title games with mark sanchez makes him a hof coach end of story. Rex Ryan also correctly identified Tyrod Taylor has a far superior nfl qb to ej manuel (Tyrod was never amazing but he was not the god awful levels of suck that ej manuel was). Rex Ryan should go try and take a good paying college job. Maybe future usc trojans coach.

I can tell your a Jets fan. Only a true fan can deliver history with this amount of humor. I could do Lions history from 1957 to 2014 almost as well. Why only to 2014? Well that is the year I finally got smart and/or drunk and burned all my lions gear on my trusty Webber grill and haven't watched a game since. True story.

Before watching, I remember the teams Rex Ryan had for the jets before that infamous "Butt Fumble Game" the season after. I remember both of these seasons. Think about it? They beat Manning, Brady, and almost Rothlisburger. Those names are like the Mount Rushmore of QBs.

The Jets problems always originate from the owners. They're content not to win and they should probably be recycled into a new franchise. The main reason the Patriots get into the playoffs with a 1st round bye is because the Jets are consistently horrible.
