We travelled to Southern China on a street food tour of some of the best street food around the world, and found an incredible street food celebration in Dali, Yunnan. The locals were cooking some amazing Chinese recipes all on the street in a traditional courtyard.
In this Chinese street food tour video deep in Yunnan province in Dali, we got to experience one of the most amazing street food celebrations in the world. Locals gather once per year for the chongyangjie, to respect their elders. We found some amazing street food delicacies you’re not going to want to miss!

We are traveling through southern China on a 6 week street food journey through Sichuan and Yunnan, all to eat and taste the best street food and discover unheard of street food and to chat with friendly local people. This is all part of the ancient tea horse road.
If you’re traveling to China as a tourist for street food and like to travel all around the world to eat street food, you must visit Yunnan to try local Yunnanese street food specialties. China really is an amazing place for street food, the local Chinese recipes will blow you away!
Chinese street food and Chinese cuisine is so diverse and amazing that you could travel through China for a whole lifetime and you wouldn’t be able to eat all of the delicious Chinese recipes. So you really just have to arrive here and taste as much street food as you can!
Chinese cuisine and Chinese street food is so abundant and diverse that you could travel through China for a lifetime and still not eat all of the delicious Chinese recipes. So the best thing you can do is just arrive with an open mind and a strong appetite and you won’t be let down!
The address of this location was in Dali old town in a narrow back alley, but only happens once per year. The rest of the time, it’s a courtyard and temple.
My name is Trevor James and I'm a hungry traveler and Mandarin learner that's currently living in Chengdu, Szechuan, China, eating up as much delicious .

Over the next few years, I'm going to travel around the world and document as much food as I can for you! I love delicious food! This channel will show you real Chinese food and real local food, not that stuff they serve in the Buzzfeed challenge.

I like these unexpected ...or planned kind of culture background to the food, and the chance to see people in these rural areas how nice they are. The food then in these settings gives the flavour and smells, a brief history about the food and people and how they live.

I love this video! Although, I don't know if I would be slightly offended to be included with all the elderly in the invitation!!! (it looks like all the elderly and only Trevor is the youngest eating lunch!) kidding, of course. This seems to be a great honor to share in what they have prepared for their honored elders! Great one, Trev!

What a great honor to be asked to attend the village feast, as much as you respect the people they respect you. You break through the language barrier and are welcomed into their traditional ceremonies. Really amazing to to see how comfortable and easy you make it look... and the food looks great!

The atmosphere of the event is epic, but as any other vaganzas like this, I bet the foods are not so good, mostly the same as the liquor that gets 2 points...
The tradition, the spirit and togetherness of the its society are more important though.

Trevor..... sometimes your expression just makes you sound so silly and 'sakai'. That's a term we Chinese use when you behave like you've never seen something so normal.... in your case.... every time you see pork.

    • karen lim
      karen lim 9 months ago

天天天蓝.... unfortunately it's not a mandarin word. That's a mixture of language from hokkien mixed with Malay influence. Sakai means..... never seen something and behave like an overly excited person till it annoyed others.
