A gemstone (also called a gem, fine gem, jewel, precious stone, or semi-precious stone) is a piece of mineral crystal which, in cut and polished form, is used to make jewelry or other adornments. However, certain rocks (such as lapis lazuli, opal, and jade) or organic materials that are not minerals (such as amber, jet, and pearl) are also used for jewelry and are therefore often considered to be gemstones as well. Most gemstones are hard, but some soft minerals are used in jewelry because of their luster or other physical properties that have aesthetic value. Rarity is another characteristic that lends value to a gemstone.
Finding the rare gemstones aren't easy. But if you happen to find any of these rare gemstones, they can land you a hefty amount of money. These valuable rare stones / stone / gemstone / gemstones are including Taaffeite, Demantoid, black opal. colored diamond / diamonds (blue diamond, yellow diamond, pink diamond, red diamond), Benitoite, Padparadscha, Red beryl, Alexandrite, Jadeite and Musgravite.

Diamonds are as common as Quartz! It's only the fact that deBeers HOARDS all the diamonds dug up, and slowly releases them on to the Market, that keeps the price of diamonds high. if they released all the diamonds they HOARD, diamonds would be as cheap as any other precious stone you can buy right now.

Also chrome diopside. Right now you can get pieces with small stones for fairly reasonable prices, although large stones (hard to find because its almost impossible to get from the rough) are much more. But the mines are in Siberia, they can only mine for 2-2 1/2 months per year because of the permafrost, and what used to be 7 mines has dwindled to 3 mines and they are drying up. It is a beautiful stone, Kelly to emerald green although inferior stones can be almost black. Best prices to be had are on JTV but any pieces with almost black stones should be returned. I cherish my pieces.

Red diamonds are absolutely $3000000 a carat!!!! Do you know how many red diamonds are laying around?? Nobody is ever found a really big one that's for sure!! Unlike the blue pink and green diamonds!

Minerals I think is more accurate. Rocks are not the same thing? However large diamonds on a girls finger have been referred to as "rocks" in countless conversations. Unless it's a spinoff from the shortening of gemstone to stone then to the synonym rock since its a more common reference in description.

overall a good, informative vid, but in the case of Myanmar jadeite, it's relatively plentiful. This is why only large, highly crafted pieces fetch a high price. Many small pieces under 2", cut and crafted, and polished can be found for under $5 for pendants, bracelets under $10

Number one stones are rubbish they fluores under light there dirty. Clean clear diamond is far better. Most coloured diamonds are heavily treated. It's easy to conceal.
