Great video. Huge, huge 3's company fan. Ritter is my all time favorite actor. I still mourn his passing. ... About the Ropers, I think if you judge something by what you remember... then I remember the Ropers way more than Ferley. And that's not a knock on Knotts. He did a great job and the writers were smart with his character. Worked very well... But the Ropers on Three's Company was pure gold. One of the best shows of all time! To me, 3's Company is the gold standard of humor -- the misunderstandings... ..Fell was a comedic genius, especially as he sometimes hid under the covers from a pursuing Lindley. lol

I've always thought Ritter's finest work was in The Comeback Kid.

I think my favorite s are the Furley episodes, where shows are not as popular, threes company escaled and popularity increased. The adding or Priscilla Barnes , Don Knott's and Richard Kline were great decisions

The other running gag was how Mr. Roper believed Jack was gay.

I don't agree. The Ropers presented one big running joke of his wife's sexual frustration. It got tired after a while. Mr. Furley had more variety and funnier situations.

Norman fell played the news camera man at trial at nuremburg- I think he did anyway. I know I saw him in an old movie and recognizing him because he looked the same as the did on 3s company.

Season 1-4 was awesome from the 3s company. 5-8 not so much cause the ropers had left and Crissy also. But the Ropers were funny as always. Helen an Stanley the best couple.

@Dave Sundstrom I agree with you. I'm a fan of Mr. Don K. He fill the shoes in for the Ropers. But what I didn't like is that the blondes who were added after susan were trying to hard to be funny.

The early episodes were great...but I've got to admit that I enjoyed each season. Perhaps that's because I am one of Don Knott's biggest fans.

The Roper seasons were the best ones. Once Furley showed up and Chrissy left it just kinda sucked. Don Knotts was great but they needed Mr. Roper for a more conservative foil to Jack's liberlism. Furley was too liberal, sort of like an old Jack Tripper.

I loved Three's Company. Maybe I am in the minority but I preferred Three's Company with The Ropers instead of mr. Furley! I mean I love Don Knotts. He was great to me he will always be Barney lol. But I really just loved The Ropers on Three's Company in the chemistry between The Ropers with each other and the chemistry with the kids upstairs between them was pure Magic!

Norman Fell knew a good thing in Three's Company. Consequently, he did not want to ruin it with the spin-off The Ropers, which went down faster than a turd in a high-power ABC Executive flush toilet.

I always felt that John Ritter would have been funnier if he didn't always seem to be "reading his lines". Whether it was that he was transfixed on the teleprompter or just waiting for each "Time" to jump-In with his line, he didn't seem like a "natural" comedian; unlike most of the rest of the cast. He was a sweet guy to like, but I felt that he kinda' "Tried too hard". An Actor to me is someone who doesn't make you think "Actor" when you're watching a show. - And I watched the show for Janet. :-)

Thanks for this! I did like Norman Fell in his Mr Roper role. It was a different time in political correctness. That little smile he had usually came when he alluded in a mocking way to Ritter's Jack being gay without saying it outright

I remember a famous TV woman being annoyed about the casting in TV shows. Her assertion was that attractive women are paired with much less attractive men as spouses..as if Hollywood was trying to push a reality that didn't exist. When I read that article is the 80's I immediately thought of "The Ropers". I had a thing for the neighbors wife and Jeffery , I think, could never had landed that milf!!!

    Remember the nude beach episode?
Janet & Helen were tired of being taken for granted and considered "safe & dependable" so they decided to "be wild" and prove they were more than just dull and predictable.
So off they went to join the nudists protest being kicked off their own beach, both in the buff... then the cops came. And they bolted.
They get home hiding in the bushes til either Stanley or Jack & Chrissy came home from brunch with Larry, who all raced to the cop shop to see if Helen and Janet got arrested after learnign about their stunt and the raid. So when they all returned home, they discover Hele nand Janet in the bushes behind the Roper's apartment...
Stanley asks why they're hiding in the bushes instead of going inside.
    Helen : "The door's LOCKED!"
    Stanley : "Don't you have a key?"
Helen : "WHERE would I CARRY it??"
And prior to that, when Stanley got Helen's note about her and Janet going to the beach, and finding out the cops raided it, he calls the cops to see if they picked up Helen, "My wife, Helen, was one of the demonstrators... she's the one who looks like her stockings are falling down, but she's not wearing any."
Honorable mention : Jack's line following their visit at the cop shop with all the arrested nudists : "When they all sat down it sounded like a round of applause."

I'm so glad to have Three's Company on DVD, and an unofficial set of both The Ropers and Three's A Crowd on DVD-R. The bootlegs are not the best, but they're better than nothing (and all things considered, they're not half bad quality wise).

The Ropers did make a guest appearance on Three's Company during the Furley reign. That was a priceless episode, when the landlord eras overlapped... if only for a short time.

Norman Fell was a good actor, period. And of course he was right about staying on Three's Company. It was money in the bank. A hit show for Gods' sake.
I never could understand way some actors left a hit series to have their own show.
A good example was Mcclain Stevenson of MASH. His spinoff was a real stinker. And the list goes on.

One talking point that is not mentioned is they did make one appearance on 3s company after the the Ropers went off the air. It was in the 5th season.
I wish they would of appeared on the finale episode on 3s company attending Janet’s Wedding.

Oh yeah I watched three's company every week I watched every episode many times as much as I like to ropers I think I liked Ralph furley better. The ropers were so serious all the time Don knotts was just hilarious. and I didn't just watch the show for Suzanne Somers I watched it because I thought it was funny I liked Janet personally I thought she was something else in a few notice over the years Jack and her kind of had some chemistry going I think you could see it they kissed a lot more than he ever kissed Suzanne Somers on the show every time when Priscilla Barnes came on it was still good but not as good as it was with Suzanne Somers but I still watched every episode many times very funny show one of my all-time favorites.

I just watched two episodes of Three's Company with The Ropers in both of them. one was where Stanley had Jack paint the building, and the other one was where Jack and Janet thought Chrissy was stealing from them. I DVR them every night and watch them in the morning. In the late seventies when I first started watching them my mother would watch them with me, her favorite character was Larry and the way he was with women she thought was so funny

I find Three's Company on Me-TV, 5am. Can't stomach it & makes me wonder how it was ever popular. Ritter was over the top & Sommers just plain boring. Joyce DeWitt was good & kept the show grounded. I do remember my Grandmother getting a kick out of it (mostly Ritter.) Fell was it's only salvation. The best part was when he would look into the camera much like Hardy did. That always cracked me up. I'm with you. Janet anyday!
